  4. I understand the point your making but back then that 61 year old coach had been the backbone of the Mustang program especially the defense on which we’ve hung our hat on for many years. (Decades actually). At that time he was the most deserving and obvious choice even over a young, fiery and energetic coach (but one without any HC experience at the time). It was simply Coach Ts time. Now it’s Tobys time. He’s now the most deserving and obvious choice if he so chooses. I believe the community wants him, the question is does the superintendent want him? For the good of the Mustang dynasty I hope he does.

  6. 10 hours and 3 pages later, I'm late to the show. First and foremost, on behalf of Mustang fans everywhere. I'd like to thank Coach Thompson for everything he has done for our school and students throughout his career. He's one of a kind, a classic that cant be duplicated. Even drives the same old blue truck. Which reminds me of the first time I met him. After the 86 championship game, there was a crowd of people waiting for the team to arrive behind the school. He was the first one off the bus, but only to tell people to get out the back of old blue. I've been biting my tongue after hearing this for the past 3 seasons. His son has been telling people not to keep their kids at WOS cuz T wouldn't be there much longer. He missed the 1st game against Nederland, and we all know how that turned out. The petition, started by my classmate, who by the way had no bad words about Hooks or T while he was playing. Then the whole Zig ordeal. Oh and did anyone mention, no more Chain Gang. That's like telling PNG no more Indians. Or like telling some of these other schools, "I need more cowbell". Most of us saw what was coming from a mile away. I've been hoping for the best. But when Gales went down, so did alot of hopes and dreams. Now as for the next coach. There should be applicants from all over the state and possibly the nation. Peevey saw what was coming and went north just in time to take advantage of the upcoming power vacuum. I even think BC sought out a championship caliber coach hoping to catch some future fallout. But if there is already someone currently on staff picked as a replacement. I can only think of one or two that would be deemed acceptable in this new state of our program. And no, neither of them are coordinators. My preference is to continue the traditions set by almost 40 years of dominance. This would mean having a coach familiar with the community and the system. Making Toby the obvious choice. That is if he even wants the job and has the qualifications (masters degree for AD.) Dont forget all the alumni that could come with Toby. Names like Locks and Gans. Maybe even an Anderson, Thomas, or Bevil. He could put together a dream team style coaching staff. But as some have said here before, they feel its time for black coach. Race, religion, or sexual orientation should in no way have any bearing on the upcoming hiring process. Best candidate for the position period!!! Now for the community. And by saying that, I mean those of us that still live in the district, pay taxes, and actually get out and vote. Let us not bow to the opinions of those who have left our area. We voted for a bond to build new schools some years ago, and upgraded sports facilities more recently. All of which bear the names of WOS coaching legends. Breedlove field @ Hooks stadium, with Thompson's name on the indoor training facility. We are the Mustangs. Always have been and always will be. The day I wear green and gold on friday is the day I delete my account and ride off into the sunset. "Mustang Nation" is everywhere. From Orange to Ohio, from Cove to Cowboy Church. And all parts in between. I've been 1000 miles from home and ran into people from Texas that never heard of Orange, but knew about WOS Football. I've also been at Chilis watching the Seahawks and told some hurricane chasers about Earl Thomas as a RB. No matter how we want the program to move forward, it will. It's not a decision that will be made by social media analysts such as myself. It will be made by those voted into power, the school board. Not a decision that can be easily made. And if it doesn't work out, there may be more names on the ballot next year.

I’ve spoken with multiple players that support BF. Some have even said their dads didn’t like the coach, but they have no issues with him. Multiple coaches have told me they want him to stay as well. From 1978-1988 PNG didn’t make the playoffs. Burnett missed the playoffs in 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008. So winning is not a given at PNG.

  9. I too believe that Coach Foreman is happy where he is, however, I could be wrong. I do know this If he gets the job all the shifting of players to LCM will come to a halt, The community absolutely loves Coach Foreman.

  12. It takes a special type of coach for this job. Someone who knows how the program operates and can keep the traditions alive. It has to be someone who has been involved with the program that won’t come in and try to change the system that has worked for many many of years. I would like to see this program keep doing what it has been doing and keep everything the same because it works and it works very well.

  13. Foreman’s overall record is 39-46. I think that certainly excludes him from any consideration for this job (like another poster said he’s probably content where he’s at)

  14. Congratulations to Cornell, it was an amazing ride he took us on. To be a major part of the highest percentage winning team in the state of Texas is no small feat Wishing him the best in his retirement. As far as his replacement, don’t think it will be Foreman . If they don’t hire an elite coach then WOS will no longer be an elite program

  17. Peevy got coach of the year. Now everyone can relax. Instead of worrying about awards let’s go recruit for the coach he needs more players. send the man some money also!😉

  18. The superintendent may not know the area but he should have done a lot of extensive research on areas where he is about to work. Before I go visit places, I always do a lot of extensive research on them. Anyway, as a manager of the 2000 4A Division II State Finalist football team for the Mustangs, I congrats to Coach T on his retirement! We need a coach who can carry on the tradition of winning at West Orange-Stark and more importantly a coach preferable have SETX and Texas ties. Someone who knows about the sport very well as well as SETX and the State of Texas and someone who is willing to make the sacrifice to win at all costs! We could care less about race/sexual orientation/socio-economic status! We also need an athletic director who can hire coaches who can perform higher than expected in all sports (not just football)! Anyone agree?

  20. Forgive what? I don't think Toby moped around whining about Coach T getting the job nor does WOS need to be forgiven for promoting a coach with over 40 years in the system who took them to at least the region finals 10 of his 11 years. I'm thinking Toby will be on the short list of quality coaches.

  21. Good luck to Coach T in his retirement. Losing the only elite coach in the area!

  22. Man! I will definitely miss coach T because of his philosophy defense. It will never be same or replace like his way. I really hope that school board will make a right decision to hire than superintendent. It is all about qualification and experience period! It should be no favorism! Of course, Toby Foreman will fit this program and keep the tradition success. I will shock if they hire someone who not know or anything because it will destroy WOS football program even hurt kids as well. Foreman will make kids to success and encourage them to attend college that he willing to work hard for kids. I hope that Orange community people keep eye and stay together to stand up what WOCCISD school board and superintendent to make a decision. School board is more power than superintendent. Again, we can't see what their inside.

Go back and look. I haven’t posted much on this 13 page topic. TDS got you bad but I will say this I wouldn’t put it past Democrats to cheat on a large scale when their willing to snuff life out of the unborn.

  26. That's why it's hard to get good coaches to come to SETX if they're not from there, even when you combine the HFC and AD positions. Not that money is everything but you can make significantly more of it coaching at some of the multi-ISD schools and not have the administrative headaches of the AD role to deal with. I think PNG may be the only outlier? Says Foreman got a 25% raise to over six figures when he left Central for Shoemaker. He was making about the same as CT was at WOS at the time. Killeen ISD also probably has a more accelerated pay scale than the one at WOS, meaning he's probably gotten bigger raises in 5 years than CT got in 11 years. I know one of the main reasons Flannigan couldn't wait to leave Westbrook is that the guy who replaced him, Coach Riordan, was making close to $50k more than him at Crosby in 2017. I think it would be tough to get a "big name" head coach to take the job because it would mean taking a significant pay cut. [Hidden Content]

  27. The coach on the current staff that is being considered for the job is from Silsbee. He graduated from Silsbee and still lives in Silsbee. His kids go to Silsbee school.

  28. Why is this crooked administration flying these illegal immigrants into Florida? A. They are hoping to change the political landscape of Florida from Republican to DEMONcrat. B. They don't want these illegal aliens in their states so they fly them to Florida. C. Both of the above.

    Houston Yates

Silsbee won’t have anyone who matches up with Lewis for sure due to his combination of size and skill set. By the same token, I think Washington may struggle with Silsbee’s guards. Jimmy may be right but there is definitely competing school of thought here.

Agreed. Washington also has the best player in the district in Kenneth Lewis, 6-7 wing who can shoot, get the cup, etc. Not sure they will respond to Silsbee’s style of play. Yates’ games will be somewhat of an indicator but I think Silsbee is clearly better than Yates this year. All in all, I like Silsbee in the region and probably have HJ as my dark horse (if they can be considered a dark horse).

  32. Have you visited WOS school and facilities lately, what coach would not be interested in coaching there. Let alone the talent that we have. Why would the young men who helped shaped and build the dynasty that is WOS leave for vittles smh.

Better job opportunities. It happens. People want to move up the chain of command. They left for head coaching jobs. Please tell me you received your education from somewhere other than PN-GISD? Your grammar, logic, and spelling leave much to be desired and do not scream Honor, Pride, and Tradition.

  38. Those were the teams I was referring to in my post, that was a really talented group. I knew they had some great regular seasons as well and went 3 rounds deep in the 5a playoffs. They didn’t have the long undefeated streak running up to the end of the season that generated a lot of buzz and comparisons to the 64 team. Those teams, as good as they were, did not win the district title but the 2016 team got a CO-DC (8-2, 7-1) record, also a very good team. If I were to guess I’m sure coach got some COTY votes during those seasons as well.

  40. I don’t think Foreman will even want the job after they passed on him when Hooks retired. He’s now coaching 6a in Killeen and apparently they’re treating him very good over there. Not many coaches would leave a 6a job for a 4a gig…
