I’ve known Hunter a long time and consider him a friend. Looks like he made a mistake in the heat of battle and will have to live with the consequences. Unfortunate situation all around.

So is it true or not true that the LCM coaching staff went to a Chauncey Billups coaching clinic this past summer?

I have been watching UIL basketball since 1972. Been going to the state basketball tournament since 1972. Have attended as a media person since 2007. The TABC district predictions come from the coaches within their own district. So the coaches in the United and West Brook district vote on just that district. I do look at those other publications. I pick the brains of Doug Jones and Jim Hicks and others on many occasions. Sorry for not picking West Brook higher than United. My bad.

I think this is the take. There’s not enough evidence to force the forfeit, but more than enough to be very suspicious and draw some (unpunishable) conclusions. While I have no dog in this fight, it’s been kinda ridiculous seeing the posts from some LCM fans equating not being able to be punished with not having done anything wrong.

I liked him last year, and could tell he had a strong arm back during pre-season. He just needed to know when to take some off and be able to finesse the ball at times. I thought should’ve started last year and this year. The move in had experience at small schools and appeared to have trouble to adjusting 5A level speed IMO. Just my two cents

I was ready for this one. Lets see, if if if your remember our cross town friend WOS wouldn’t even swap home and away a few years back because our field wasn’t finished. Integrity right. Then last time we played at WOS it was after halftime before all LCM fans were scanned thru gate but the whole other more filled side was in sitting down at Gametime. Hospitality there. Then LCM signs off on every player wanting to back and play for WOS. WOS gets scared they will have players coming to LCM so they refuse to sign off and player sits out till last game, given this is same year LCM let player go and then that player helped them win a few games. To many other things but if your treated this way, why play them.

I am a Bobcat Dad, but have friends from both BC & LCM. I hate that them and their kids are suffering because of a lapse in judgment by the Coaches. With that being said, I can personally attest to the great man, Coach and father that Hunter Gonzales is. However, in the heat of the moment, competitive nature and the goal of winning may have taken over. If the video proves he had the band and his mannerisms and conduct on the sideline prove they were using it to have an unfair advantage against BC during the first half, then I totally believe it warrants a forfeit of their win. Especially, if the video exposes another Coach of having knowledge of the band as well! In a perfect World, we could make them replay the game, but since that cannot happen, I believe the only right thing to do is go with the score in the second half once BC knew they needed to abandon the use of the bands. JMO, but we all should have the moral obligation to get things right when it comes to kids, whether we like that outcome or not.

I will say I think Coach Williams has done an outstanding job at United this year....and that sentiment has been given to me by multiple head coaches in the district unprompted

This is a crazy question. But it depends on who you ask. The casual Beaumont person that you’ll find in barber shops, restaurants, ect, absolutely. Fans and people actively involved with the boosters and stuff…. Absolutely. The students at the respective schools? Yes. Administration is another story. Both at the school level and the district level. School level, with the growing problem of low test scores. The schools are having to place the big sport like football on the back burner and focus on academics. This means low quality football coaches, due to inadequate salaries and resources. And that’s just the school level admin. The district level admin seem to ONLY be focused on basketball. Football takes a back seat. You can clearly see this when one of those coaching jobs come open. Seems to be quality hires every time. Just one guy’s thoughts on it.

Coach Smalley is an excellent coach and a good person. What an asinine statement by a Lumberton fan on him being a sore loser. For the LC-M coach that did not give the watch back, he should be suspended
