SETXsports is now 20 years old!! December 2005, owner @jdawg03 started this website to promote our local high schools sports. It was a way for the fans to be a part of the sports scene here locally. Over the years, this site has grown from just a small little message board site to one of Southeast Texas media staples. Adding our broadcasts and other social media entities, SETXsports has become one of the states biggest and best high school sports websites. I personally want to thank all our staff (admins/mods/broadcasters) for all the work put in to make this website what it is today. Also, thanks to our over 45,000 members (past and present) for being a big part of the success of this site. Couldn't have done any of it without you guys. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SETXsports!! 20 years!!

1) its about keeping your word, if someone asks you to do something and you agree...be a man of your word...a great man once said "A man's gotta have a code" 2) We are dealing with HS kids, my code is allow the adult who works with these kids to tell the kids himself the news...the kids deserve to hear it from the adults who made the decision. 3) It's about building relationships, in this case I could have easily broken the news last week, but I'd burn a Coach...and coaches talk..."Can't trust Stepp, he doesnt keep his word" then I won't break anything....take the L here to break ten more stories later..chess not checkers

What else are we supposed to say honestly? You guys (I love your stuff, no kidding) but you promote and glorify teams along with the UIL who gain advantages. Everyone knows what's coming and it's extremely difficult to compete with it. And somehow it's "racist" to bring up recruiting? Still haven't figured that one out. It is what it is man. The rules are there that allow it currently but it doesn't impress me. They have the most transfers in the state. That should not be allowed OR the school should be able to do it if they move up to a much higher classification. It's common sense to most but not all for some reason. Crown them. We are still coming, and we are bringing hell with us.

I don't know. According to the peanut gallery, MH has inside info that will provide them the win. 😉

While I would have liked to see them score a TD and make it a closer game, what a great and fun season for those boys. They brought some life and Cardinal spirit the likes of which Larry Ward stadium hasn’t seen in years! What a fun ride it’s been! It’s a great day to be a Cardinal!

I had a local coach (whose team has played both of these teams) tell me a couple of weeks ago that this one may be a showdown of the best two teams in SETX. After getting absolutely punched in the mouth, the team comes out after halftime and proceeds to dismantle the Longhorns. If you know a thing about this sport, you know what it is when a team completely flips the script and dominates in the 2H. Almost always coaching. I’ve said this many times, WOS won’t likely have a coach anywhere near Dan Ray or Cornel the rest of our lives and probably ever. It’s insane how lucky they were to have them back to back. And in my book, CT is probably the 1-1 of Southeast Texas football coaches based on what he did as the DC under Hooks and as the HC when he retired. He was hugely responsible for all of their rings. You just aren’t going to get that again. Kalen DeBoers could be the best coach in the game right now and he still wouldn't be Nick Saban. Hickman is a first time HC that you would expect to make mistakes. Maybe a lot of them. But you also hope that he would steadily improve and take advantage of one of the unique football situations in the State. He obviously has. Consistently. It’s fine to appreciate the past and take pride in all that was accomplished. It’s also high time to move and appreciate what you have now, which is still among the elite programs in the state.

Congratulations to Coach HH and the entire staff for representing SETX and 9-4AD2. Coaches have stuck to their process and now that they have better talent they have achieved higher results. Coaches have produced high level game plans and made strategic in game adjustments as they have since they took over at WOS. Now, all roads lead to Carthage who have a better player at nearly every position other than MLB and possibly a DL spot. Friday's outcome will not be the result of incompetent coaching, and it will most definitely not be because WOS ran a "50 defense" instead of a "50 defense". Regardless of the final result Coaches and WOS players have done a great job and even more so given the poison from segments of the fan base.

Do we still want to fire the coach? Or.. not yet? Or.. never mind? Just making sure I’m keeping up.

Lol. I have been on this board from the start; way longer than you have, and a couple of other boards before this one. Believe me, your not going to hurt my feelings. But whatever personal axe you have to grind with the program or the coaches, you need to sort that out. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just being negative about everything, and you haven't said a positive thing about anything on here. You don't see me on here saying that Ned is going to win district or go deep in the playoffs but there are positives and negatives in every game especially when you have teenage boys playing.

His dad is my source. Again, I will let them make it official as to where he is going.

For me personally, because I was asked to keep quiet by the two parties involved. It's about keeping good relationships. I learned of the hire last week. Was asked to not release the news until Coach Foreman could inform his players. I don't think that's too much to ask. I have always tried to do what the coach has asked in those type situations. Can't speak for other media entities. If you notice, KJAS has no direct quotes from either party. Meaning they hadn't spoken with Coach Foreman or Jasper supt.

Silsbee assistant coach Ira Brooks will be coaching his last home game tomorrow night. Coach Brooks will be retiring at the end of this season. Coach Brooks has been coaching at Silsbee for 32 years. He has been a mainstay and key component to the success of the Tiger Basketball program. His JV teams have always been successful and have won many district championships even when several freshmen and sophomores were playing varsity. Coach Brooks has earned the respect and love from many coaches in our area. He has been a fantastic coach but an even better man. He will be missed. Congrats to my friend Ira.

Word I received is that Bailey will not play against Ennis but is hopeful to play in 3rd round. I have been told the extent of his injuries but that doesn't need to be publicized here. That's for his family and school to announce.

Can we change the title to Chambers/Jefferson/Brazoria County all stars vs Buna??? Im rolling with the homegrown coogs in this one. Will have to play mistake free and do what Hardin did as far as holding the ball. Just have to execute in the red zone and finish drives.

Big congratulations to Bellville Head Volleyball Coach Susan Brewer on career win #1306 and becoming the all time wins leader for Texas High School Volleyball. In 50 years of coaching in Bellville she has a resume of 1306 wins 9 State Championships 5 State Runner ups 6 State Semi finalist 20 Regional Championships 26 Regional Appearances 39 won or Co District Championships and still counting!!

The Dave Campbell's crew will be live at the Birdville Fine Arts Complex for the UIL Realignment announcemnet on Monday Feb 2, we''ll go on the air at 845am. Greg Tepper will host and I'll be on for analysis. We'll have a few DFW area coaches on along with an interview with the UIL. The broadcast is free across all Dave Campbell's platforms, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, TexanLive, etc.

look, i voted for him, would vote for him again over Kamala or Biden. but expecting folks to "not dwell on the negative" is not reasonable when the president is constantly doing and saying negative things. And people can be for making the country great again and still not think that trump is doing it. I like some of the stuff he does, hate some of the stuff he does. I hate how he makes the country look when he talks. I think his ego plays a bigger role in his decisions than any desire to make america great again. I fully don't understand people who can't criticize the man or who constantly downplay everything he does that rightfully upsets people.

Coaching matters. A lot! But having really good players matters more. It's been proven over and over again.

They are and for that reason I hope UIL moves PNG and Nederland back to Reg 3… no reason to be playing DFW schools in bidistrict or this early in the playoffs…

There's still 2 chances for bragging rights with both playoffs and overall season winners to be determined. A few other interesting points about these preseason rankings: Atascocita could be pretty special this season. They are playing in several national tourneys and one day events. They will be battle tested come district time. Some say this is the year for Baytown Sterling to replace Barbers Hill in the playoffs. If that happens, then United would go DII and that could provide an opportunity for both Beaumont schools to make it to San Antonio. Will be interesting to see. Looks like Orangefield and East Chambers will again battle for district supremacy. If Kountze fails to make playoffs and Anahuac does, that would send East Chambers to DII. My money is still on Kountze getting in the post season. San Augustine could make some noise in the region. They have a new coach as well. Big Sandy is back in the rankings after a "un Big Sandy" type season last year. Brookeland again head and shoulders above the local 1A's but the district that 28-1A faces in the 1st round is loaded. 27-1A has #10 Wells, #11 Kennard and #12 Groveton Centerville along with an always tough Broaddus team. Getting close to that time of year. Looking forward to another great basketball season.

Its pretty clear to me Coach Hickman could walk on water and a portion of the WOS fan base would find fault in it... He is not Hooks or CT, nor should he be...he has to be himself and I do feel like he has grown tremendously as a HC the past couple of yrs...great comeback win for WOS

I do know better. Bet on games all the time. Particularly ones where someone has Galena Park beating Nederland "by as many as they want". That's what we call in the business "fish". But it's very obvious you are trolling and you should know better.

Sadly, a lot of school districts choose to let the pervert resign so they don't have to report it and take the time to go to court. If you remember several years ago a Memorial coach was jailed for this and when it came out that there were allegations at other schools, the girl sued those schools. I don't remember the outcome of the lawsuits. My favorite professor at Lamar, Coach John Payton, always told us to never be alone with any of your students. I have lived by his advice now for 33 years.

I've enjoyed reading this thread...there's so many factors involved....another common example pointed out is Todd Dodge...he won a ton at Southlake and Westlake...not so much at his other stops...its definitely a combination of many factors and I think "fit" as well

Im backkkk… just for a post or two. SOC, Randle, and IC, to me, are the top tier teams in the classification. I think we fall into tier 2. Does that mean we can’t win, no…. But it will take a perfect game and pull it out in the end type of situation. I will say this. And I’m a life long PNG fan. I have never seen more ignorance, racism, and utter negativity in my life from the PNG fans. From the crying about open enrollment, gloves, region, coaching, etc…. Suit up and play the game and see what happens. But speak with some football IQ folks. We are in the quarters. A undefeated season so far, great coaching staff, and good little team. Have a QB, RB, and 2 WR, coming back next year. Versus all the negativity, shoot out some positive thoughts.

UMMM...not really because the UIL put: West Orange, Silsbee, Hamshire-Fannett, Jasper, Shepherd, and Tarkington in front of you and you opted up. Sorry, just the truth.

The ignorance from this ordeal is laughable. It's a lot of LCM support or justification of obvious cheating. Did it completely dictate the result of the game? No. Did it play a role in the result of the game? Yes. Understanding tendencies or deciphering hand signals is gamesmanship, but having your hands on electronics your opponent uses to relay plays is full blown cheating. Both of these teams are good and based off the second half score it's a one possession game that could have gone either way. Player discovers opponents wrist band and then brings it to his coach. Coach gives the wrist band to the ref and it is returned to the team it belongs to and you play ball. It's that simple of a scenario that could have happened but when nobody was looking the wrong decision was made to gain a competitive advantage.

Here are the details that I know. In the LC-M/BC game of two weeks ago an incident happened at the beginning of the game that caused BC to raise questions. BC has electronic wristbands for their offensive play calling. The offensive players wear these "watches" and the offensive co. gives the play call from his tablet to these watches. This is the first year that UIL has allowed teams to use these devices. BC and a couple of other area teams use these devices. I hear they are pretty expensive. But that's here nor there. At the beginning of the game (opening kickoff) an LC-M player found one of these "watches" and instead of giving it to a game official (which in NCAA rules, you are required to) he gave it to one of his coaches. The coach never gave it to an official. It was shown on game film the coach being handed the "watch". It was also shown on game film during the game that this coach, who is an offensive coach, stayed very close to the defensive co. all during the first half. BC did not learn of the watch missing until right before halftime. They asked for it back. But it is not the responsibility of game officials to ask the opponent for it. School admins, coaches have to get involved. TASO has no say so in the matter. They are only responsible when given the device to get it back to rightful team. BC even had coaches and admins search LC-M sidelines during halftime to look for watch. There is also no in game penalty to access the team who confiscated the device. LC-M claimed they did not have the device and has yet to turn it over. But video evidence shows otherwise. What the video doesn't prove if the coach or coaches were able to use the device to their advantage. But the halftime score was 17-0 in favor of LC-M. BC stopped using their devices in 2nd half. Final score was 24-16, LC-M. A meeting today of the district supts. to discuss this issue and vote on a possible forfeiture or reprimands. The vote was 3-3. So no forfeiture. This is definitely an ethics situation and not necessarily a rules violation. DEC and UIL would have to govern and determine what type action. IMO, it's a black eye on all involved but like I stated earlier, should not warrant a forfeiture of game.

Based on rivalries, district championships and playoff implications, here is a list of some big and important games for this week, Week 9: Atascocita at North Shore Cita clinging to playoff hopes, NS trying to stay in district title contention PA Memorial at Lufkin District championship on the line United vs. West Brook Beaumont Bowl, both teams looking for a playoff spot La Porte at Crosby Both teams undefeated in district play, a win keeps each in district championship position Lake Creek at Huntsville Winner has the inside track to the 3rd spot and possibly 2nd. PN-G at Nederland MCM, nuff said LC-M at Bridge City District championship on the line, winner stays undefeated Silsbee at WO-S Same as LC-M/BC, Shepherd at Jasper Winner gets a playoff spot, loser most likely out Hardin at Anahuac Hardin trying to solidify their district championship hopes, Anahuac trying to improve their playoff position Anderson-Shiro at Kountze Winner gets a playoff spot Deweyville at West Hardin Winner gets 3rd, loser most likely 4th West Sabine at Evadale District championship to the winner San Augustine at Shelbyville SA with a win gets district championship, Shelbyville looking to stay in the DC hunt. Getting down to crunch time. Lot's riding on these last three weeks.

My once a year post. Last year I pretty Much laid it out how it ended. Trap game and PNG was super flat. I do think without that win last year, Nederland would not be super happy with their coach. IMO it has given them hope, other than last year’s win, Nederland doesn’t have much to be positive about. This year’s take is the same, but different. Trap game? 100%, but Joesph will have us ready to play this year. I do not predict a blow out, but I do not see Nederland winning this game. They will throw the kitchen sink at us, but in the end, little brother will remain little brother. I’ll take PNG. Closer game than most will predict. In the end, without uncle Larry, Nederland is the old Nederland. The rah rahs will say Nederland is better than they have played. Truth is, maybe, but Nederland fans have always lived on the Uncle Larry era. And that’s simply over. PNG for the win.. But on a positive for the Pups, at least you will get some state wide attention this week because of the rivalry aspect. You heard it here first. And if any have taken this post as negative, I do have a peace offering. We have a trophy case across the tracks if any of you would like to come see what relevance looks like!!! PNG….. Enough said……..
