    8-5aD2 vs BYE Week

I think, for me, Dayton has been the team most exceeding expectations so far. I’m not sure if they are legit quite yet. Wins over Crosby and KP were impressive. KP had just beaten Montgomery the prior week before Dayton beat them by 43. Dayton and Montgomery square off next week and that will be a huge game for pecking order. PNG’s 3-0 start with a win over LP has to be the District favorite. I don’t see Huntsville beating them. Huntsville has new coaches and schemes still to work out. Their 2 losses were against really good teams and I think they will be fine. Definitely don’t want to count out Lake Creek. The loss of their QB and RB was huge but I think they are still a solid team. They should challenge for a playoff spot. Ned will be in the mix. They need to find some offense but could challenge. West Fork also capable of pulling an upset. Splendora will be the caboose. We’ll see what happens with the Dayton/Montgomery game but I’ll say right now: 1. PNG, 2. Huntsville, 3. Dayton, 4. Montgomery, 5. Lake Creek, 6. Ned, 7. West Fork, 8. Splendora

    8-5aD2 vs BYE Week

For PNG, I’d like to see the O-line continue to gel in the run game. La Porte was a big leap forward in how we moved the ball on the ground. I was worried we’d get stuffed all four quarters. The secondary needs work, of course, but it’s much better than last year and the open-field tackling has been back to 2022-2023 form. I hope the state ranking and the big win over La Porte don’t cloud our vision. It’s a tough district, and preseason records don’t tell us everything about how a season will go. I haven’t seen much of Dayton, and nothing from the two Montgomery schools. I think Lake Creek is down from last year. We’ll find out next week. Just going off game results (and Dayton’s first game, which I was able to watch) Dayton and Montgomery are looking good. Huntsville has some issues, especially tackling and the blocking has been spotty, but they’re fast and big and if they tighten up they should be solid. Nederland has to figure out some offense. Until we see if that happens, it’s hard not to wonder what will happen against district opponents. West Fork looks fundamentally sound - I think they’ll surprise some people. Splendora is Splendora.

  8. I'm hoping that the boos get loud enough, and enough people speak up to the right people (SB & SI). Maybe then those people in decision-making roles will start taking the football program a bit more seriously.

  11. SP has open enrollment. At one time they ran buses every school day to the Intercoastal Canal Bridge on Hwy. 87 that separates Port Arthur proper and SP in order to help parents get their children to class. So parents would drop their kids off under the bridge and SP would pick them up and drive to the schools about 10 miles away. In the afternoon they would reverse the procedure. I am sure that it was a lot more attractive to get parents to enroll their kids to go to school in SP by saving the parents about 30 minutes of travel time in the morning and 30 minutes to travel time in the evening. That was as far as SP went was to the bridge when I was still working. Now they may have enough students living in a single area (like Port Acres) for them to send a bus into that area to pick up students.

    11-5A D1 2025 Season

I was surprised to see looking at the latest poll release from DCTF that La Porte is no longer in the top 10 falling from #5 to out of the poll. This is unusual, especially since they lost to a very good team in PNG. Smithson valley lost a game and they are still #3. Why? I think we often give too much credence to polls. How you are ranked does not affect your chance of success, just your talent and how you execute.

  15. It's my understanding that the enrollment number has to come from that week (27-31) with Friday, Oct. 31 being the deadline.

  17. Or send them to Hardin, who is historically one of the worst football programs in the state, along with Kountze, Vidor and others. However, a couple years ago, they decided to just "run right and run left" and things have kind of turned in their favor.

  19. Week 4 is the big bye week for our coverage area teams. A total of 36 teams (of the 82 coverage area) have a bye this week. Here are the teams that are off this week: 23-6A (Goose Creek Memorial, Channelview, North Shore, Humble, Atascocita, Summer Creek, Kingwood, CE King) 11-5A DI (Angleton, Crosby, FB Kempner, Friendswood, Kingwood Park, La Porte, Porter, Pasadena) 8-5A DII (Dayton, Huntsville, Montgomery, Lake Creek, Nederland, West Fork, Port Neches-Groves, Splendora) 10-4A DI (Bridge City, Hardin-Jefferson, Huffman, Liberty, Livingston, Lumberton, LC-M, Vidor) East Chambers Colmesneil Hull-Daisetta Timpson This week will have the fewest games on the schedule until the playoffs start. @WOSdrummer99 you had to really reach for pickem games this week. LOL

  23. Snapshot day is the day before Gunner starts recruiting local players so they do not count on their enrollment. They are on the bubble and want to stay in 3A2 ln lieu of going to a higher bracket. They have UIL Guardian angles watching over them.

  29. Leaning towards attending this one. Either this one, United at Jasper or Buna at Kountze. If I go to this one, definitely will be eating at Papadeaux's and sitting in press box and not standing on sidelines. BISD always has me my reserved spot in press box. But Buna at Kountze can have me at Mama Jack's and all you can eat seafood buffet.

  30. Larger enrollment has an advantage. La Vega with 877 kids vs WOS with 656 means more kids (221 more) to choose from. I know there are exceptions. The two largest 3A2 schools in that class played for the state championship. It is not all about staff or coaching..
