  1. Cats 6'3" receiver Nicolas Jackson hurt in the 1st half against La Porte and didn't return. I don't know his status but in the 2nd half he was replaced by sophomore Wesley Jackson who is about the same size and I assume is his brother and he did an amazing job. The Cats seem to be determined to get to the championship game.
  2. Angleton will face Smithson Valley, a perennial fixture in the playoffs at 2:30 PM in Waco. SV has a potent offense featuring dual threat QB Cade Spradling who likes to run and throw. Seems to have good speed. Angleton will be in the semi finals for the 1st time since as a Region 4 champion they played Manvel in NRG in 2017 but lost. The game will be carried on NFHS.
  3. Angleton will face SV at Baylor's McLane Stadium Saturday December 14 2:30 PM.
  4. Once again Angleton found a way to win. Congratulations to both these teams from 11-5A1 for going farther than most people thought.
  5. La Porte's colors have always been orange and white. You should be for Angleton since we start with A and we're both Cats! I would love to see Angleton play Aledo although I probably wouldn't like the result. Aledo is on a different level than everybody else.
  6. Some information about attending the game: Angleton will be the home team so will be on the west side of NRG. Parking will be $22 + tax (about $23.81?) Presale tickets are $15 plus an added fee) Tickets bought at the gate will be $20 (no fee). Go wildcats!
  7. Angleton has made it to the semis 3 times that I know of. The 1st time was in 1958 when they played for the state championship and lost to Stamford in 2A. I have no recollection of that as I was living in San Antonio with my parents and had never heard of Angleton. The second time was in 1973 when they played Austin Travis in 4A which was then the top classification and lost to them by 2 points and barely missed out on a chance to play against the legendary Earl Campbell and his Tyler Lions for the state title. Then in 2017 in Coach Roark's last year before retiring as the Region 4 champion they lost to Manvel by a score of 35-10. There have been a couple of years that they also just missed being Regional champs ,2011 when they lost to Pearland Dawson 27-23 in regional finals and 2015 when they lost to Ridge Point 36-35 in overtime when they scored a TD and decided to go for 2 and didn't make it. The odd thing about that game is it was held in San Antonio's Alamo Dome because there was a threat of freezing wet weather in the forecast and I guess they could not get NRG.
  8. I have been buying the mag for over 50 years and still have them all, but never saw this happen before. I guess instead of the magazine being the main thing like in the past, the "digital subscription" is now. I think most people just want the magazine and don't want the subscription. Why should I pay for recruiting news when I can get it free. And I have no need for "7 on 7" news as that is not real football. If it was, it would have blocking and tackling. I can even find predictions for free. And the magazine hits the stands if at all very late now. You use to be able to get it in early July. This year I kept looking for it and finally found it about mid August at Walgreens after practices had been going on for awhile. As far as I know that was the only outlet in Angleton that ever had it. I never saw it at Walmart or any of the other usual places.
  9. I'm sure they would like to redeem themselves, but in a playoff game like this, the strongest motivating factor for both teams is making the semi-finals. LP really hurt Angleton in the 1st game with kickoff and punt returns and they may have to do something different this time There was a 70 yard kickoff for a touchdown and later Angleton was on LP's 35 yard line and did a quick kick on 4th down I think it was which LP returned to about Angleton's 25. They may have to use onside kicks since those are rarely returned. It would help if Angleton's kicker could put it through the endzone for a touchback but that's not usually his range. They also missed a field goal over 40 yards which I think was a little out of his range. And they may be better off going for it on 4th down rather than punting or punting out of bounds. It's a good thing this will be an indoor game at NRG Saturday because there is rain in the forecast.
  10. CS kicker picked a fine time to miss his first XP of the year. Hope that injured player carted off is OK. It's always a danger when you're playing a violent sport. 11-5A-1 has now eliminated all 4 playoff teams from district 12.
  11. Angleton fans are going all out in support. There is a tailgate in the early afternoon Friday at a local car dealership, followed by a send-off parade. College Station has only had 3 turnovers all season but Angleton has 26 takeaways so something has to give.
  12. This won't be easy for LP, but a win is sure possible. They don't want to play like they did the first half against Anderson though. They may have learned something from watching Ball stop A&MC's offense.
  13. College Station beat Angleton in '22 by a score of 27-20.
  14. Think back to 2015. Angleton sneaked into the playoffs with a record of 5-5 and had beat Texas City in bidistrict by 7, then in the area round had beat Port-Neches Groves by 18 and was facing a favored College Station team in the 3rd round at Woodforest Bank Stadium and beat CS by a score of 38-22. Friday, they return to the scene of the crime,Woodforest, in the 3rd round as before and again CS is favored. Angleton will hope that lightening strikes twice in the same place. They do have a common opponent, Weiss which Angleton beat by 7 and CS beat by 6 although Angleton was playing them at home and CS on the road.
  15. The T-formation with the 3 backs which they didn't use last night until the 2nd half is new this year. They use it most when they want to run clock so you saw them run it a lot in the 4th quarter. I think they only used it one play in the 3rd. They did score using it last night. The announcer for Texan Live apparently didn't recognize it because he kept calling it a "modified wishbone" The I-formation that they used a lot is also new. They ran the spread for the previous 4 years and before that the wing-T for a number of years. Like the wing-T, the backs line up in a 3-point stance in the T-formation. I think the real glory years for LaMarque were the 90's when they won 3 state championships in 3 consecutive years.
