Port Arthur  Image result for Port Arthur Memorial Titans Logo Image

The Titans lose a good senior class that featured three Division I signees and although the 2022 squad will have a lot of new faces, Coach Brian Morgan says the talent is still there and he expects Memorial to challenge for a district title. “We are young at the skill spots, but this group is super talented,” Morgan said. The offensive line is the strength of the offense early with Cayden Bowie and Danny Jaramillo leading the way, as Bowie holds double-digit FBS offers. The defense is where the Titans have the most firepower returning, led by a strong secondary with CB- Jelani Chevalier and Safety Daevon Iles returning
both were first-team all-district a year ago. Iles picked off three passes in 2021. LB- Darrell Thornton (50 tackles) and DE- Caden Pitre (6 sacks) also return for the Titans defense, and both were all-district picks a year ago

Image result for Crosby cougars

The Cougars have nine playoff wins in the past two seasons and despite the move up to Division I, expectations are still very high in 2022. QB- Cyrin Myles (2,470 yards, 32 TDs passing; 1,357 yards, 20 TDs rushing) was sensational in taking the offense over last year and returns for a final encore. He’s one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Houston area. WR/DB-Braden Womack (37-671, 9 TDs receiving; 66 tackles, 1 INT) is a two-way force and will lead the receivers along with WR- Kristian Roberson (16-395, 4 TDs receiving). The defense is young but there’s some intriguing talent led by sophomore LB- Copelin Windfont, who started the last two playoff games as a freshman last year. LB Ayden Jones  addition to the defense has the coaching staff very excited.

Image result for Barbers hill eagles

The Eagles had some struggles in Year 1 under Coach Abseck, but once they got into the playoffs they made noise by stunning state-ranked and unbeaten Fort Bend Marshall in the bi-district round. Despite returning only seven starters and moving to Division I, fans are optimistic about 2022 as the Eagles have a pair of matchup nightmares on the outside in J. Herndon (40-810, 16 TDs receiving) and T. Dixon (23-542, 4 TDs receiving). QB K. Fuentes (262 yards, 3 TDs passing) looked good in spot duty as a sophomore and looks ready to lead the offense. The defense is led by LBs T. Bright (28 tackles) and M. Malone (15 tackles, 1 sack) and CB Pierre (25 tackles, 1 INT), a three-year starter in the secondary.

Image result for baytown lee football logo

The Baytown Ganders have posted back-to-back seven win seasons, but last year they missed out on the playoffs due to a three-way tiebreaker. QB/DB- Ja'corey Boston (1,567 yards, 23 TDs passing; 830 yards, 6 TDs rushing) is back for a second season leading the offense. He started as a sophomore at receiver and in the secondary. WR/DB- Devante Broussard (56-710, 7 TDs receiving) will be a two-way starter for the Ganders and will also be a major factor in the return game. The defense expects to be much improved with eight returning starters, highlighted by LB- Harold Gibson, who is a four-year starter. He’ll team with LB- Josh Huerta, an all-district performer a year ago, who played every defensive snap in 2021. “We think we’ll be a better team this year, but we have to be ready because our new district is loaded with quality teams,”  Coach Finn said.

Coach Toomer thinks a veteran offense, anchored by four returning starters on the offensive line will be key as the Rangers look for their first playoff appearance since 2008. The strength at the skill positions will be at WR, where Robert Adams will lead a veteran group. The defense has some holes to fill, but LBs Caleb Smith and Issac Solorio and DB- Jaden Clark are outstanding building blocks for the Rangers. K/P  Ramiro Longoria has a big leg and is a weapon in the passing game. Toomer says the key concerns for the Rangers are inexperience on the defensive line and finding a new QB. He’s hopeful the team’s skill talent and overall team speed will negate those weaknesses.

Image result for kingwood park football logo

Kingwood Park is eyeing a return to the playoffs in Division I as Coach Maple welcomes back 16 starters from a team that got hot late in the year and just missed out on the playoffs. The Panthers bring back some very good skill talent with QB- Jaxon Sims (1,809 yards, 16 TDs passing), RB- Isiah Perez (705 yards, 12 TDs rushing) and WR- Pierce Richards (62-1,004, 11 TDs receiving). Richards was the top receiver in the district a year ago and if teams roll coverage his way, WR- Hayden Bender is more than capable of making plays. The defense is led by a strong secondary anchored by junior DBs- Jayden Henderson and Jaxson Lindsey, who picked off three passes a year ago. Senior DB- Luke Shoelen (86 tackles) is back after leading the Panthers in tackles a year ago. The big question mark for Kingwood Park will be inexperience along the defensive line.

La Porte BulldogsImage result for LaPorte bulldogs football helmet

Coach Kevin Berneathy arrives in La Porte after a successful four-year stint at Pasadena Dobie where he rolled up a 33-10 record. He’ll look to restore La Porte as a power in the Houston area as the Bulldogs have struggled in recent years. Berneathy brings his Wing-T offense over from Dobie and will look to be physical at the point of attack with OL/DL White leading in the trenches. ATHs Fisher and Lawrence could contribute at multiple spots on both sides of the ball and be big-play threats. The big key will be who takes over as the featured back and who wins the QB battle between Jackson and Cole. “I think we have an opportunity to be better this season, the key will be adjusting to the new coaching staff and learning the new schemes,” Berneathy said.

Goose Creek Memorial Image result for goose creek memorial football helmet

After  just one win a year ago, GCM has a new coach former OC Daniel Ragsdale to try and guide a young Patriots squad back into playoff contention. WR B. Gaston (35-467, 4 TDs receiving) will team with RB I. Thomas (455 yards, 5 TDs rushing) to pace the Patriots’ offensive attack. The defense only has two starters back but they do have a playmaker returning in WR/DB E. Lewis who picked off three passes as a junior. The big question for the Patriots heading into 2022 will be youth across the board, especially up front on both sides of the ball.

New Caney Porter Image result for porter spartans football logo

Coach Russell enters his second season at the helm at Porter confident that the Spartans will show improvement after a difficult 2-8 debut. There is outstanding returning offensive production with RBs Joshua and Payton Evans-Pickens and QB Blake Russell. Two-way linemen Garms and Rigsby will provide quality experience for the Spartans up front on both sides of the ball. A pair of juniors in WR/DB Hitchen and WR/DB Lewis could also step in and be contributors on both sides of the ball. TE/LB Gilliam (71 tackles) led the team in tackles a year ago and will provide quality leadership for the defense. Biggest question marks heading into the season will be depth along the defensive line and facing an entirely new slate of district opponents in the new 8-5A Division I.

2022 INFO- After winning A total of one game in the past three seasons, progress was made in Dayton in 2021 as the Broncos picked up two wins, but there were more signs of progress in Coach Ware’s second season as DHS played a couple of district powers within a touchdown. Two-way WR/DBs- Ashanti Allen (42 tackles, 2 INTs), C.J. Hubert (38 tackles, 3 INTs) and Vernon Harrison (23-295, 2 TDs receiving;  550 yards 3 TDs rushing; 52 tackles, 1 INT) are dynamic playmakers who Coach Ware says will contribute on both sides of the ball. In the trenches, OL- Alex Romero is an anchor on the offensive line after earning all-district honors and on the defensive line Eric Rosales leads the way. “We expect to improve drastically in every aspect,” said Ware.

2022 INFO- Nederland stumbled in 2021, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Coach Barrow says the Bulldogs newly realigned district will still be very tough so the Bulldogs will need some young players to rise to the occasion. The offense is led by  receiver Reeve Barrow (20-270, 3 TDs receiving).  OL- Jack Bieber is a massive force in the trenches and will be the anchor for the Bulldogs offensive line. 2022 INFO- Fresh off a trip to the regional semifinals PNG welcomes back 15 starters and a new head coach as former Southlake Carroll special teams assistant Jeff Joseph arrives at the reservation with big shoes to fill replacing the winningest head coach in png history. The Indians offense is led by QB- Cole Crippen (3,019 yards, 35 TDs passing) and a pair of solid receivers in Chance Prosperie (82-1,374 yards, 14 TDs receiving) and Landon Guarnere (56-785 yards, 12 TDs receiving), so expect Port Neches-Groves to continue to be one of the state’s most dynamic offensive teams. The key for the Indians to take the next step to becoming a real player statewide in 5A Division II will be the progression of their defense. There are a couple of big-time playmakers returning in DB-Torryan Hinton, who picked off seven passes a year ago, and LB- Nick Gardiner (111 tackles), who is the team’s leading returning tackler.

2022 INFO- Coach Amarantos has GPHS on solid footing with back-to-back playoff appearances but UIL Realignment did the Jackets no favors as they move east into a much tougher district. Galena Park runs the flexbone offense so they are always a tough matchup, but there will be a lot of youth with RB-  Jordan Balderas (721 yards, 8 TDs rushing) leading the way after a good sophomore season. Sophomore QB- Daniel Gomez is expected to step in and lead the attack. When the ‘Jackets decide to put the ball in the air, they’ll look to WR- Jonathan Renteria (18-441, 2 TDs receiving). Galena Park’s defense will lead the way with six starters back, led by three-year starter DL Marshall (38 tackles, 21 TFL) and junior DB- Keenon Thomas (25 tackles, 2 INTs).

2022 INFO- It’s been a rough go for the Indians, who are in a 14-game losing streak, but they are hopeful a new head coach in former Texas City assistant Blake Ryder can turn things around. Coach Ryder inherits an experienced squad that graduated just eight players from a year ago, so there is some positive momentum. RB/LB- Jackson Stroud (78 tackles) is a three-year starter and kick-blocking specialist who blocked four kicks a year ago. WR/DB- Kyeler Thompson and OL/DL- Anthony Arcidiacono are a pair of four-year starters who bring plenty of experience to the table for Sante Fe. RB/LB- Bryce Leal (81 tackles) had a big sophomore season, while OL Weaver started all 10 games up front as a sophomore. 2022 INFO-  After an undefeated regular season the Marshall Buffs took a stunning defeat in the 1st rd. of the playoffs a year ago. Coach Williams says the newly aligned district is much tougher top to bottom, but that could mean his squad will be battle tested come playoff time. ATH-Ja'Koby Banks (1,358 yards, 22 TDs passing; 1,093 yards, 19 TDs rushing) is one of the state’s most dynamic players who can play multiple positions although it’s likely he directs the offense once again. RBs- Jy Wortham (569 yards, 9 TDs rushing) and  Jarrod Howard (352 yards, 6 TDs rushing) will likely split carries in Marshall’s up-tempo spread offense. The defensive line is loaded with FBS prospects, led by Zachary Chapman (37 tackles, 2 sacks) and Trent Thomas (45 tackles, 9 TFL, 2 sacks), while the always speedy Buffs secondary will be outstanding, led by Michael Patterson (30 tackles, 3 INTs).

2022 INFO- Texas City had a big season with 10 wins and an area round playoff appearance and with six starters back on offense and defense, Coach Surovik’s squad is poised to challenge in a district that got tougher with the addition of powerful Fort Bend Marshall team. RB- Caleb Bell (1,123 yards, 19 TDs rushing) had a big sophomore season and is the workhorse for Texas City’s offense, but he’ll run behind a young offensive line. DE- Szyron Scott (39 tackles, 16 TFL, 12 sacks), fresh off a sensational sophomore campaign, is a disruptive force on the defensive line. LB- Camryn Grief (59 tackles, 14 TFL, 1 sack) also returns after a big sophomore season. Aside from inexperience on the offensive line, the biggest question mark will be depth in the defensive front seven.

He inherits an experienced squad that had a disappointing 2021 season that missed out on the playoffs. There are two experienced QBs on the roster in Blaize Covington (862 yards, 10 TDs passing) and Hightower transfer Kendron Penson Jr. (2,111 yards, 20 TDs passing; 5 TDs rushing). WR- Marxquise Hayes (19-315, 5 TDs receiving) and WR- Travis Willis will lead a dynamic group of receivers, Hayes also led the district in interceptions in 2021. The defense is full of experience and young talent led by junior DE- Steven Brantley and sophomore DL- Royce Wilson. Penson says the biggest concern heading into 2022 will be the offensive line, which graduated four starters
