KF89
Port Arthur The Titans lose a good senior class that featured three Division I signees and although the 2022 squad will have a lot of new faces, Coach Brian Morgan says the talent is still there and he expects Memorial to challenge for a district title. “We are young at the skill spots, but this group is super talented,” Morgan said. The offensive line is the strength of the offense early with Cayden Bowie and Danny Jaramillo leading the way, as Bowie holds double-digit FBS offers. The defense is where the Titans have the most firepower returning, led by a strong secondary with CB- Jelani Chevalier and Safety Daevon Iles returning both were first-team all-district a year ago. Iles picked off three passes in 2021. LB- Darrell Thornton (50 tackles) and DE- Caden Pitre (6 sacks) also return for the Titans defense, and both were all-district picks a year ago 2021 Results- 8-3 Overall, Bi-District Finalist / 6-1 District Record Letterman R/L- 12/29 Returning Starters- Offense- 3 Defense- 5 Impact Players WR/DB- Quinton Harper- 5-10, 170, 4.4- 40yd speed OL- Cayden Bowie- 6-4, 275 OL- Danny Jaramillo- 6-3, 270 CB- Jelani Chevalier- 5-10, 170, 4.4- 40yd speed DB- Daevon Iles- 6-0, 180, 4.5- 40yd speed LB- Darrell Thornton- 6-1, 220, 4.7- 40yd speed DE- Michael Riles- 6-3, 235, 4.8- 40yd speed DE- Caden Pitre- 6-1, 215, 4.7- 40yd speed DT Harvey Jones- 6-0, 270 Top Prospects DT Harvey Jones- 6-0, 260 QB Davion Wilson LB Jacori Smith-Jackson DB Jayce Robertson OL Kyle Morales K Luis Blanco DE Kentrell Roberts OL J’Marin Payne RB- Ja’Coryn Baker
KF89
The Cougars have nine playoff wins in the past two seasons and despite the move up to Division I, expectations are still very high in 2022. QB- Cyrin Myles (2,470 yards, 32 TDs passing; 1,357 yards, 20 TDs rushing) was sensational in taking the offense over last year and returns for a final encore. He’s one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Houston area. WR/DB-Braden Womack (37-671, 9 TDs receiving; 66 tackles, 1 INT) is a two-way force and will lead the receivers along with WR- Kristian Roberson (16-395, 4 TDs receiving). The defense is young but there’s some intriguing talent led by sophomore LB- Copelin Windfont, who started the last two playoff games as a freshman last year. KF89
The Eagles had some struggles in Year 1 under Coach Abseck, but once they got into the playoffs they made noise by stunning state-ranked and unbeaten Fort Bend Marshall in the bi-district round. Despite returning only seven starters and moving to Division I, fans are optimistic about 2022 as the Eagles have a pair of matchup nightmares on the outside in J. Herndon (40-810, 16 TDs receiving) and T. Dixon (23-542, 4 TDs receiving). QB K. Fuentes (262 yards, 3 TDs passing) looked good in spot duty as a sophomore and looks ready to lead the offense. KF89
The Baytown Ganders have posted back-to-back seven win seasons, but last year they missed out on the playoffs due to a three-way tiebreaker. QB/DB- Ja'corey Boston (1,567 yards, 23 TDs passing; 830 yards, 6 TDs rushing) is back for a second season leading the offense. He started as a sophomore at receiver and in the secondary. WR/DB- Devante Broussard (56-710, 7 TDs receiving) will be a two-way starter for the Ganders and will also be a major factor in the return game. The defense expects to be much improved with eight returning starters, highlighted by LB- Harold Gibson, who is a four-year starter. He’ll team with LB- Josh Huerta, an all-district performer a year ago, who played every defensive snap in 2021. “We think we’ll be a better team this year, but we have to be ready because our new district is loaded with quality teams,” Coach Finn said. 2021 Results- 7-3 Overall Record / 4-3 District Record, No Playoffs Starters Returning Offense- 7 Defense- 8 Impact Players QB/DB- Ja’corey Boston- 6-0, 175, 4.8- 40 WR/DB- Devante Broussard- 5-10, 175, 4.5- 40 LB- Harold Gibson- 5-10, 195, 4.9- 40 TE/LB- Josh Marquez- 5-10, 185, 4.9- 40 LB- Josh Huerta- 5-10, 175, 4.8- 40 LB- Matteo De Los Reyes- 5-10, 165, 4.8- 40 WR/DB- Ehret Calloway- 5-9, 165, 4.8- 40 ATH- Josiah Joseph- 5-9, 160, 4.8- 40 Key Prospect RB/DB- Denzel Taylor
KF89
Baytown Sterling Coach Toomer thinks a veteran offense, anchored by four returning starters on the offensive line will be key as the Rangers look for their first playoff appearance since 2008. The strength at the skill positions will be at WR, where Robert Adams will lead a veteran group. The defense has some holes to fill, but LBs Caleb Smith and Issac Solorio and DB- Jaden Clark are outstanding building blocks for the Rangers. K/P Ramiro Longoria has a big leg and is a weapon in the passing game. Toomer says the key concerns for the Rangers are inexperience on the defensive line and finding a new QB. He’s hopeful the team’s skill talent and overall team speed will negate those weaknesses. 2021 Results- 4-6 Overall / 2-5 district, No Playoffs Starters Returning Offense- 8 Defense- 5 Impact players WR- Robert Adams- 6-1, 190 DB- Jaden Clark- 6-1, 170 LB- Caleb Smith- 6-1, 180 LB- Isaac Solorio- 5-9, 170 TE- Enijah Russel-l 5-11, 245 OL- Gage Woodard- 5-11, 245 RB/LB- Jacoby Caldwell- 5-10, 220 OL Malachi Godfrey- 6-5, 310 K/P- Ramiro Longoria Key Prospects OL- Aubry Hudgins, RB- Trenton Smith OL- Tony Salazar, LB- Eugene Dersone WR- Kody Arceneaux, WR- Jace Greer LB- Gerrell Reed, WR/DB- Janard Gleghorn
KF89
Kingwood Park is eyeing a return to the playoffs in Division I as Coach Maple welcomes back 16 starters from a team that got hot late in the year and just missed out on the playoffs. The Panthers bring back some very good skill talent with QB- Jaxon Sims (1,809 yards, 16 TDs passing), RB- Isiah Perez (705 yards, 12 TDs rushing) and WR- Pierce Richards (62-1,004, 11 TDs receiving). Richards was the top receiver in the district a year ago and if teams roll coverage his way, WR- Hayden Bender is more than capable of making plays. The defense is led by a strong secondary anchored by junior DBs- Jayden Henderson and Jaxson Lindsey, who picked off three passes a year ago. Senior DB- Luke Shoelen (86 tackles) is back after leading the Panthers in tackles a year ago. The big question mark for Kingwood Park will be inexperience along the defensive line. 2021 Results- 4-6 Overall Record / 3-4 District Record, No Playoffs Starters Returning Offense- 9 Defense- 7 Impact Players WR- Pierce Richards, OL- Erick Zapata, OL- Trent Savage, OL- Ercik Contreras, WR- Hayden Bender, QB Jaxon Sims, DB- Jayden Henderson, DB- Jaxson Lindsey, RB- Isaiah Perez, DB- Luke Shoelen Key Prospects DB- Hudson Gary, LB- Troupe Holloway LB- Joey Johnson, DL- Caden Henry LB- Diego Davis, ATH- Patrick Overmyer
KF89
La Porte Bulldogs Coach Kevin Berneathy arrives in La Porte after a successful four-year stint at Pasadena Dobie where he rolled up a 33-10 record. He’ll look to restore La Porte as a power in the Houston area as the Bulldogs have struggled in recent years. Berneathy brings his Wing-T offense over from Dobie and will look to be physical at the point of attack with OL/DL White leading in the trenches. ATHs Fisher and Lawrence could contribute at multiple spots on both sides of the ball and be big-play threats.
