  1. you've got a big a chip on your shoulder. Everything is criticism or negativity towards BC in your mind, even completely benign posts. One of the most knowledgeable high school basketball minds in our area gives a perfectly reasonable prediction and you immediately chalk it up to him "not liking BC". I made a post the other day simply stating that BC had won a must-win game, and somehow that led to a whole rant about my "negative energy" towards BC (please find a single negative post I've made about the Cards this year, btw). Previously I made a post stating that I liked the Cards' chances against Vidor, and somehow that was "locker room motivation." This may be hard for you to believe, but apart from just being interested observers, there are very few people on this board outside of BC, Jasper, and Lumberton fans that care at all what happens with BC basketball over the next few weeks. I've enjoyed following y'all because of the close games, and the district is fun because there are going to be 3 teams fighting for two spots, but if BC makes it to the playoffs or doesn't, most of us people who you're so concerned with won't care a whole lot one way or the other.

At PN-G, during 1974-1977, Coach Ethridge had talented kids and assistant coaches. 23 all-state players and several assistant coaches that left to become high school head coaches or assistant coaches in the college ranks. Kids like Wilson Weber, Kyle Aguillard, Richy Ethridge, Randy Ethridge, Ted Brack, Justin Eicher, and Robert DeRutte do not come through Mid-County very often. Very talented kids. Assistant coaches like Greg Davis, Tim Nunez, Bruce Bush, Paul Carswell, and Ken Clearman were successful at PN-G and they sustained success after they left The Reservation in 1977. You can find a video on YouTube where Jeff Powers productions interviewed Doug and Richy Ethridge about PN-G's success during 1974-1977, and both of them stated that PN-G's success was a combination of talented kids, great assistant coaches, and legendary community support. The core values of Honor, Pride, and Tradition, which have been taught at PN-GISD for nearly 100 years, also played a part. PN-G gets laughed at for being a bedroom community or cult-like for its commitment to its traditions, history, and core values, but all those pieces of the puzzle are what good coaches look for in a job. Coach Ethridge was elite before he came to PN-G and he was elite after he left PN-G. Regardless of his W-L records or all-time wins number, he was the greatest Chief of the Tribe and second place is not anywhere close. Another great coach that had talented kids at Hebert and West Brook was Alex Durley. He, too, had great assistant coaches. Combine great coaches with talented kids over in Beaumont, and viola, Herbert won and West Brook won...a lot. Durley teams played great defense, ran the ball down your throat, and they didn't turn the ball over. You had to beat Hebert because they were not going to beat themselves with dumb plays and turnovers. Dan Hooks...Cornell Thompson...Curtis Barbay...Steve Shaver...the list goes on. All great coaches that put trophies in the trophy case. Remember those French Buffs in 1984..."Solid...Solid as a Rock!" Those teams had strong coaching staffs and talented kids. I'm a Larry Neumann fan, too. He's another elite coach. I don't care that he never won a title. He was an elite coach. He also had an elite DC in Delbert Spell. Together they maximized the talent that passed through NISD and they won a lot of games against better competition. Excellent football program at NISD under Neumann. Very well coached and prepared to compete. What more can you ask for? I'd line up for coaches like Ethridge and Neumann all day long. Very similar coaching talents and philosophies - play good defense, take care of the football, and when you have opportunities to make big plays...roll the dice and take your best shot. I wrote a lot of words to say that winning championships takes talent + coaching.

  4. I don't think he will run - I think he knows to wait until 2028, he'd had a far better chance of winning then.

  5. No doubt the games still have to be played. But my predictions are just that, my predictions. Right or wrong. I call it like I see it. Other than Silsbee, it doesn't matter to me who makes the playoffs.

  7. Will be some good second round matchups for HJ and Silsbee HJ will probably play Center/Chapel Hill runner up or Palestine third in 18 Silsbee second round matchup of the runner up of Bullard/Jacksonville will be better than most realize. Jacksonville has most of there team back that lost in OT to Highland Park in the second round of the 5a playoffs last year. HP ranked #10 in the 6a poll this week. Bullard will have a 6'5 guard who is the real deal. Won the state in the 4a high jump last year. Bullard has some kids that can stroke it. Not saying they will lose to any of these teams but if you are looking to far ahead and dont play a good game in the second round these guys are good enough to upset some plans down the road.

[Hidden Content] I don't follow the Felon League anymore but OMG is there alot of talk about the officiating in the Bengals-KC game. I mean locally, not just on social media. A "script" needs to be followed. One of the last games I watched is when a New Orleans WR got TRUCKED by a Ram CB well before a red zone pass arrived, and you know the rest of that story. They are not going to be able to hide the game fixing much longer. The NBA ref finally spoke up years ago, it will happen again.

  13. DeSantis would win the presidency if he got the nomination, but I don't know that he can beat trump, and don't even think he'll necessarily risk running against trump. It makes more sense to wait four more years when he'll be a shoe in. Unfortunately that means that we're probably looking at 4 more years of biden, or whoever his VP is if he dies or becomes completely incompetent.

There will probably be 15 or more that jump in, so it should be interesting.....bottom line, I'll be voting for whoever gets the R nomination.....unless something DRASTICALLY changes (like Trump actually shooting someone on 5th avenue) LOL

  23. I'd really like to see Jacob take over when time comes. With the new star player on the way next year and it looking like Silsbee should have no problem surrounding him with talent, I think Coach Sigler sticks around a few more years after the 24 class graduates.

  24. Nationally there are about 5 homicides per 100,000 people. Per 100,000 is the way that crime is normally reported. Using murder as an example, if the national average is 5 per hundred thousand, a City the size of Port Arthur should have 2-3 murders per year. Beaumont should average about 6 yet they average about 14. In the last few years, Memphis, Tennessee has been average almost 30 per 100k. That is 600% more than the national average. Extreme? People for some political arguments like to say, crime can happen anywhere. Obviously that is true. The likelihood of crime however, can be astronomically different according to where you are. Locally is a glaring example of that. Tidbits like robberies are 700 per 100k in Memphis, 300/100k in Beaumont and 20/100k in Port Neches. Yes, crime happens everywhere. Memphis seems to among the worst.

  25. 1) Silsbee - King of the hill until they get knocked off. This team has always been able to play in wet, dry, windy, cold conditions. Won the DC last year on a cold, wet, windy night in Jasper on a great, go ahead, game winning TD reception. Who's going to be the QB? That's not the question. Who wouldn't want to be the QB at Silsbee with what we have coming back. 2) Jasper - They bring back the kitchen sink. Another year under the new HC system could be just what the doctor ordered. With Jasper's tradition and what they have returning, it was very tempting to put them at......well, you know. 3) HF - They get there starting QB back then look out, that will allow Zeno to roam from sideline to sideline and that WR coming back will make teams hair stand on end. 4) WO-S - I do not think they will regress any more. This team has the talent and athleticism and tradition to bounce back. If the fans/community get behind the new HC system, it won't take long for the Mustangs to start stampeding again. Not long at all. One slip, one hick up, one flinch and this will be turned upside down and all around. That is how close these four teams are. If you think things where exciting in 9-4A last year, well buckle up and get ready because it's going to be a wild ride. I would not be surprised if the DC does not have a loss this year. TigerNation!!!

  26. I've said all along that I thought LC-M is the 2nd best team in the district and they are starting to play like it. Jasper is hit or miss but I like them at home vs. BC. When I watched the BC/Lumberton game, I came away believing Lumberton was clearly the better team of the two. I also think BC could possibly lose to Vidor or WO-S or both. The Vidor game was very close the first time and WO-S is due to win a game. But I do think BC wins both of them. I've seen every team in the district multiple times. I have seen BC at least 4 times this year. I'm just not sold on that team being good enough to get a playoff spot. I believe those wins in first half of district (LC-M, Jasper) were definitely upsets. I think 2nd time around those guys will be more prepared for BC. LC-M certainly was. I expect Jasper to be as well. Bridge City will have to either beat Jasper on the road or Lumberton at home. I simply don't like their chances in either game. I believe the cream will rise to the top in this 2nd half of district play. It usually does.

  29. Fired and arrested? Does that make this case different since the officer have been held accountable? I will use Wikipedia to refresh my memory on the George Floyd death. Floyd was killed on May 25, 2020. Wikipedia: George Perry Floyd Jr. (October 14, 1973 – May 25, 2020) Officer Chauvin was fired on May 26, 2020 and arrested on May 29, 2020. Wikipedia: He was dismissed by the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) on May 26 and arrested on May 29. So before most people had ever heard of Floyd, the officer responsible had been terminated and with 3 days, arrested on May 29, 2020. Chauvin was put on trial and convicted less than a year later. So before a majority of people had heard of Floyd, the officer was terminated and with 3 more days, arrested. Protests then started and again according to Wikipedia, caused over one billion dollars in damages and continued for more than a year. Tyre Nichols was brutally beaten on January 7 and died on January 10. The officer were not fired until 10 days later. It took another 6 to make arrests. So let’s compare the cases. In Floyd the officer was fired the next day and arrested only four days after the incident. well, not comparing one wrong being more than another, in Floyd’s case the also leaned on his neck. In the case of Nichols, several officers beat and kick the guy to death. It took about a week and a half before the chief got around to terminating them and another week before they were arrested. So what took four days in the Floyd case, took almost 3 weeks in the Nicholas case. If this is about not being held accountable, which case more clearly demonstrates that? Of course this one has not played out yet but we there likely be a year and a half of protests and over a billion dollars in damages? It seems clear to be selective outrage. I wonder what the differences are in the cases???

He has a list of coaches that he deems "elite".. that have either won multiple state championships, state championships at more than one school, or both. And he believes that any of those coaches or any coach of that caliber would go to any school, of any classification, with any level of talent/ability, and win a state championship within 7 years.

Question had nothing to do with Neuman, Tom Landry or Lombardi. '74-'77 Ethridge had elite head coaching record in Texas at PNG, After '77 Ethridge had average coaching record. What changed was the question? Elite head coaching in high school doesn't really need many quality players & can win state championships at any school according to you? Biggest factor was level of talent & skilled players declined those years for Ethridge. As elite as his coaching may have been, it did not matter without a good amount of talented players.

    Png 2023 ??

Cool facts about PNG for those who are interested. Please do not take his as bragging. I am only interested in sharing to those who love high school football or want something to compare their program to. I am a proud Indian and love to talk with others. PN-G has won 65% of its 88 playoff games. PN-G has won 57 playoff games. PN-G has been the district champions 27 times. PN-G has been to the bi-district 34 times PN-G has been to area 12 times. PN-G has been to regionals 17 times PN-G has been to the Quarter-finals 11 times. PN-G has been to the semi-finals 9 times PN-G has been to the state championship 7 times. PN-G has won 3 state championships. Only one team in SETX has been to the State championship more time than PN-G and that is the mighty WOS Mustangs with 8 trips. The other great team from SETX to TIE PN-G for trips to the State Championship is the mighty Newton Eagles. We do not have the talent of WOS or Newton. Definitely not SOC. They had over 180 scholarship offers to their team vs a minor handful to PNG. Coaching has been huge for us this season. Congrats to SOC on a magical season, Hats off to you and your program. PN-G had a magical season of their own defeating the #2 #3 and #5 teams in the state. Thank you SETX family for your support. Thank you SETXSPORTS for your support. I have received so many messages of encouragement from many of you and your support warmed my heart. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Even those who sent negative messages at least you recognized the feat of making it this far. Thanks again for making this magical season feel like we are ne big family. Far those who said due to demographics we would never again make it to state I hope you see that there can and will always be opportunities to make it with the right combination of kiddos and coaching and that demographics cant stop a team from making it. Even in this day of recruiting, building super magnet schools and putting all the best athletes on a single team with a goal of making a SC teams like a PNG, Nederland, PAM, WB, BU, Lumberton, Vidor, Dayton, Jasper, WOS, Newton, West Sabine, Shelbyville, and all the other teams that are landlocked, in a dead growth area can and in fact will make it back at some point. When they do its all the more special. No transfers, no magnets, just hometown kiddos playing their tales off. Look at Silsbee. they have been stellar and Ill say it got screwed out of a shot at the semi-finals by a bullshit non-call. I watched the Silsbee game and saw several times the refs screwed them over. Parden my language. The 2 pt. that was allowed when Cuerro was throwing off his knee really pissed me off. It wasn't as if it was something close. he was down way before the ball was thrown. I have no skin in the game as I am a PNG fan, but Silsbee was the best team and should have been playing in the next round. I hate it when refs determine a game. they should never be the deciding factor in an important game as this one was.. Great season Silsbee, Great season Lumberton.
