I was making light of the person who said the coach must win state in so many years or else. That’s ridicules. An elite program like WO-S only has 4 state championships, Newton only 5. There are 62 teams that start out in each division, only one is crowned.

You do not need income in order to file a tax return or to get money “back” that you did not pay in.

It's the ironically named "Earned Income Credit" where they "refund" money to you that you never actually paid in. It's a windfall if you earn little to no money in a tax year, the government will send you a check to make it all better. It's based on the number of people in your household, etc. They can (and do) reach into the tens of thousands of dollars. The best scheme of all is when you work here as an illegal immigrant but "pay" your taxes, you can claim all of your kids back home as dependents and since they aren't American, they have no Social Security Numbers..... and their existence can't be verified. A citizen from another country can claim as many phantom dependents as he wants with no need to prove their existence, then the fact that he has so many dependents entitles him to Earned Income Payments. They literally take their W2s to shady tax preparers (you know, the ones with billboards) and collect thousands of dollars from the federal government. Can you blame them? It's the IRS that's being stupid. I prefer a progressive tax. People who make more should expect to pay more. The wheels fell of when you have top earners paying closer to 50% of their top income in taxes, but get accused of "not paying their fair share" by people who not only don't pay, but instead receive generous gifts from the treasury. And if you threaten to review the Earned Income Credit program, you're accused of "raising taxes on the poor" because you're threatening their gift. It's insane. No one should be receiving a nickel back from the IRS that they didn't pay in. The really sad part is that everybody who cares to admit what is happening knows that those giant tax "refunds" are most often wasted. A down payment on a new Kia, a set of rims, a new tv, or maybe some flashy clothes.... Nobody is setting that money aside to utilize throughout the coming year in an effort to improve their standard of living. That's why the child tax credits from 2021/2022 were sent out in smaller increments... to space those funds out over time so people wouldn't blow it all on day 1. So often those big "refund" recipients just head to the dealership, make a big down payment on a car that gets repossessed within six months and all they managed to do look good for a couple of months and ruin their credit.

You don’t get the success west orange had (/will continue to have if they right the ship) on talent alone. You just can’t reliably have enough talent in such a small sample size for so long and across so many generations to build an entire program on genetics. Coaching and system have so much more to do with it than just “let’s hope we get a good crop this year.”

Same athletes. Didn't excell in new system. New system didn't fit. Mistakes were made on the sidelines. Learning process by both. Expect dominance to return. Someday? This has gone way off topic but it's fun.

This was probably true. But, I'm sure we have different reasons on why this was. Why was WOS the only Orange county school that this was happening? Could it have been because during those times they the "right" coach cultivating those athletes to make them the best talent on the field. And maybe the other Orange county school's coaches weren't able to? We saw a "dramatic" drop off in performance when Cornel left. Also, we saw an improvement at LCM when they got a new coach. Didn't we?!

Parking has always been a problem there and now is ridiculous because of construction. I was there earlier this season for Orangefield game. Managed to get a close spot in the back and came in the back door. Good to have connections.

Is Phil Danaher an elite coach? According to your theory.. he would've been fired at Calallen several times over. Even though he won more Texas high school football games than anyone that's ever coached and reached state finals twice, state semi-finals 11 times, state quarter finals 6 times, and regional finals 9 times. That's more deep runs than many of your "elite coaches" that you constantly talk about. So.. again. Is Phil Danaher an elite coach? Or is he someone that should've been fired?

I can’t think of another fan base that shows up to argue “y’all don’t understand… we’re losers. Always have been, always gonna be.” I’m over here arguing that we can be great from time to time if we could get some coaching, community support, and more of our athletes to play football AND baseball. Vidor posters have made it clear that there are no expectations of success in the community over there.

It's not JUST about wins and losses. I know it's the nature of the business but sometimes it shouldn't be. Sometimes it truly is an unfavorable district/classification, in which the season would be completely different if not the case. Sometimes strong senior classes graduate. Sometimes good athletes decide not to play for whatever reason. Sometimes rival teams get a transfer or more. Or... sometimes you just don't have the horses. The best trainer in the world won't win a horse race with a donkey. None of that is the fault of the coach, yet that's who gets the blame every time. I agree it's on their shoulders but all factors should be considered.

It’s unbelievable how miserable people are and unwilling to congratulate a man on job well done. Coach Mathews did a phenomenal job as AD/HC for Vidor but a few select individuals always want to talk about wins and loses… and before those people say it’s a sports and someone has to win and lose, you are right but sports is so much more than being about winning and losing. Sports are about teaching someone to be accountable, a team player, leadership, and so on. So before you chime in and focus solely on wins and loses…. Let’s see your win, loss record (and little league doesn’t count) or if y’all know so much about being a AD/HC let’s see those applications and credentials.

You are correct… matched up against two very powerful Lindale teams and lost a one score game to chapel hill when Coach was sent to the ER two hours before kickoff… but you won’t find a 12 year stretch in Vidor history that even closely compares

Throwing my hat in the ring, I want to be the next head ball coach at Vidor. We will be running the Spread T, maybe I can get MTM to be my offensive coordinator and MTC to be my defensive coordinator. No but in all seriousness, I hate to see Coach MTW go but I’m sure he’s had enough and ready to move on to another chapter.
