  1. and honestly, maybe it was my Parents and the way they instilled the "sticks and stones" ideology , but I have not been offended by anything anyone has done, said or dressed.......and I've been down 6th street during Halloween......

  2. It's always funny to me when a bunch of old white men get together and criticize another race/culture for being wrong about believing something. Personally, I don't have an issue with the idea of an Indian being a mascot, but then again, I'm not Native American. The fact that so many people on here are pretending to not know that the term Indian is considered offensive by many Native Americans is pretty laughable. It's also not difficult to understand why native americans would have an issue with an Indian mascot miming scalping. If there was a high school mascot called the White Men, it wouldn't be offensive, but if during their fight song the white man mascot pantomimed hanging black men, it would be pretty offensive (mostly to white men). I feel like the conversation on here would be pretty different. All that being said, I feel like this is a situation where something that is probably minorly offensive to some native americans is being blown way out of proportion by the woke left and media. Both sides are wrong here: the folks with the "it's always been this way" or the "Native Americans shouldn't care how we portray Native Americans" points of view, and also the woke side who's exploiting the situation for political gain, or getting worked up without having any dog in the fight. For me personally, if I were doing anything at all that portrayed someone from another race or culture in a way that led parts of that group to claim it was offensive, I would stop doing it. It seems amazingly selfish to continue the behavior for your own edification. It's kind of an ironic deal that some Native Americans don't like the portrayal of themselves, and a community of white people refuses to change because of "culture and tradition."

  3. I have no stake in this nor in my eyes does it even matter, but I'm not going to say that it has not dishonored Native American tribes. It's not my place - I'm not a Native American. Maybe you are a Native American or maybe that's just your opinion. Regardless, if the chief of the tribe says it has, then maybe there's some merit to it. I would suggest reading his reasoning behind his comments before making an opinion.

  5. Some folks have known but I will make it public. My time as a full time administrator/broadcaster is up. I told my wife of 33 years that when she retired from teaching that I would retire with her to the beach. She retired last May and I told her I would finish out the football and basketball seasons of this year then I would join her. (would have joined her in May but needed to stay on after the passing of our beloved admin WOSGrad). I am so ready to be a beach bum. I have enjoyed these past 17 years here on the site. I have seen it grow from just a little message board to now be considered a valuable media outlet. It truly has been a labor of love. First of all, I want to thank Jordan Wilson, the owner of this site, by inviting me on as a staff member and eventually an administrator. He trusted me with the help of running this site and allowed me to "do my thang" and start my broadcast career. It has truly been a blessing. Thanks I want to thank Todd Broussard (WOSGrad) who is looking down on us from heaven. He has been my partner in crime for all these years and is the reason this site is what it is today. He was the man!! I dearly miss my old friend and I hope that he is up there saying "job well done my friend". Thanks Todd for everything you did for me and this site. I want to thank all the staff members here. Particularly Lucas, Mack, Robert, Terry, Matthew and all of the other staff. You have helped make this the place to be as for Southeast Texas sports. Thanks for all the support over the years. Thanks to all the coaches that I have come to know and work with all these years. Thank you for your support and cooperation and your acceptance of me and SETXsports. I am truly grateful. Thanks to all the members here who really are what makes this site so great. I have become friends with several here and I cherish all the times we have spent on and off this site. God Bless all of you. I wish all and this site the very best. I will still be around some but it will be mostly from my chair on the beach with my toes in the sand holding a cold one. Thanks again to everyone and May God Bless.

  7. It used to be “honorable” to own and abuse slaves. I don’t think it’s necessarily “woke” to not want your culture portrayed by the most brutal, savage acts that your people ever committed.

  11. I think that the whole situation is sad. With all of the problems facing our Native American population, their leaders decide to put all of their efforts into this instead of poverty, drug addiction, violence, illiteracy, poor health, and any other of a host of ACTUAL PROBLEMS facing their community today. What has changed since the 1970s when the Cherokees were proud to be honored as the PNG mascot? Nothing in PNG.... they're still doing it the same way. The only difference is a embarrassing decline in leadership by the Cherokee Nation. BUT, I could see a time in the next five years where schools like PNG and Evadale will be banned from UIL participation if they don't change their mascots to accommodate the wishes of the far left. I'd bank on it.

  17. Let me clear a little up. Cherokee is only done at the END of the parade route. Another song is played during the parade. The year my daughter went, I think it was Yellow Rose of Texas or something like that. Us parents gather at the END of the parade, around the circle, and they play Cherokee for us. We've gotten comments on how great it was.

Maybe Navasota. I don’t see them beating Bellville, Sealy or El Campo…. But we are talking about High school kids. I’m looking at who these teams have played and scores to evaluate them so far (With the exception of Bellville who I have seen play a few times this year). Not trying to be a homer But Bellville is solid IMO

    EV’s and Gas Engines

Just had a discussion about electric vehicles. I can't confirm accuracy but what I understand is the batteries are good or warranted for 100,000. To replace them is $8,000-10,000. How does that affect the vehicle depreciation? Where do the used batteries go?

    Tarkington Open

100% correct. The quality/number of players has no bearing on success. All you have to do is hire a coach that's won state titles before. Do that.. and then watch the deep runs start rolling in.

  29. Whatever, I'm about fed up with all this mess. Anyway folks are starting to warm up to "tightly linked group of players on the defensive side of the ball" defense instead of the "Chain Gang" and that is a good sign. It'll all work out. Now can somebody give me another coach's saying please.

    Favorite Coach's Sayings

Certain small circles have made some racist claims about CT. If as you say, the term suspect refers to a criminal, it does not single out a race. If a coach from another school. say one with a majority of white athletes, were to use the term "suspects", would it be racist? I assume not. So because of where CT coaches, his comment is racist? Reality is my friend, you have twisted this into a race issue because of the race of the athletes which in turn makes you the racist.

  35. It isn’t my logic. I would never justify the team name Indians because a chief gave the name and said they could do so. If the justification of the mascot is a letter from a Cherokee Chief in 1980, yes that is flawed logic. It is flawed because they were not named the Indians in 1980 and they needed no approval. In truth decades after a team mascot was created, an Indian Chief came along and said, hey I like it. Some people opposing the name are using a current Cherokee Chief as not liking it. Is that based on the fact that Indians is derogatory or that a previous Cherokee Chief gave a letter of agreement, so the current one withdrew it? Let’s assume the current chief changes his mind or is replaced by another. PNG then gets a letter of approval saying that we made a mistake, now we appreciate the portrayal of Indians. Does that all of a sudden end this is controversy? If it does not, then why even bring up the current Chief’s opinion. There is a high school team in Texas named the Cherokees and another name the Comanches. Can you imagine that the Cherokees played the Comanches? Oh my gosh!!! Those teams did not use a generic term for a group of people, Indians. They actually used the name of Indian tribes that still exist today. Did they get permission? It seems like much of this ado comes from a letter sent by an Indian chief. So if the first chief never came along in 1980, would this controversy even exist? So yes I agree it is flawed logic to use what a Cherokee chief said 40 years ago but if that is true, is it also flawed to worry about what one says today?

  36. I don’t need to research the fact that I don’t care what any of them think. It’s a “ harmless” high school spirit chant. Anyone “offended” by that needs to take a couple Midol and call me in the morning.

  37. Who is being harmed by the name of a mascot? Is scalp ‘em racist terminology? I’m sure more white people were scalped than Indians. I understand there are a lot of tenderfooted snowflakes in this country, but are far worse things happening that we should be concerned with. On a side note, hopefully there will always be Evadale Rebels, as well!

  38. First a group of locals mentioned how offensive it was…. Nothing. Then the local Indian tribes said something…. Still nothing. Then the Cherokee Chief himself said he does not support this…. Nothing. Now Disney and TMZ is on PNG’s arse and NOW they’re deleting while social media accounts in order to mask the ‘offensive content’. Looks like the ball is finally going to start rolling on this. I’m sure that if the mascot hasn’t changed by then, I’m sure the halftime performance will look a LOT different this fall.

    This Board Needs....

A Fireman was working on the engine outside the station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle. The girl was wearing a fireman's helmet. The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat. The fireman walked over to take a closer look and said, That sure is a nice fire engine. The little girl girl replied, Thanks. The fireman looked a little closer. The girl had tied the wagon to her dog’s collar and to the cat’s testicles. The fireman said, Little partner, I don’t want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you tie that rope around the cats collar, I think you could go faster. The little girl paused for a moment then replied, You’re probably right but then I wouldn’t have a siren.
