Fellas, Silsbee was two games away from the title game and lost to a very very good Cuero team. That is a great success in 99.9% of the programs in the state. When you get to that level, the little things tend to rear their heads and cause teams to lose. Discipline, heart and experience usually tend to be the difference. Otherwise, we would never see a team like Liberty Hill continue to have the kind of success they have against clearly more athletic programs at this point in the year. Silsbee should celebrate the great year they had and work on fixing the small things that created the difference in the game. As far as experience goes, now they have that. Discipline can be created during the offseason, and heart must be brought by the players.

It still amazes me but this system Coach Vance brought here yrs ago has given the kids away to be competitive and they and the whole town bought into it . They run slot T from peewee league up through high school and now it's became LH's football identity . I think you got it right with they are quick .

Class 6A Division I Semifinals Prosper (13-1) vs. Duncanville (14-0) 4 p.m. Saturday, Ford Stadium, Dallas Prosper will need to find something extra in its reserve against a Duncanville team which has reached the Class 6A Division I state championship game three times since 2018. The Panthers have played only one close game this season, and that was last week’s 28-21 win over Westfield. Duncanville beat Bryan (74-13), Wylie (41-0) and The Woodlands (35-3) prior to ousting Westfield. Duncanville will be looking to return to the Division I state title game for a second straight season after falling to North Shore, 17-10, in last year’s championship game. Duncanville also lost state title games to North Shore in 2018 and 2019. Prosper has won 10 consecutive games, including playoff wins over Plano (28-3), South Grand Prairie (38-26). North Crowley (35-21) and Lewisville (24-13). The Eagles’ only loss this year was against its District 5-6A rival — unbeaten Class 6A Division II state semifinalist Denton Guyer (23-6) on Sept. 13. The winner plays North Shore or Austin Westlake for the state title. North Shore (14-0) vs. Austin Westlake (14-0) 3 p.m. Saturday, Rice Stadium, Houston It’s hard to fathom it getting any better than this in the world of high school football playoffs. Winner of 54 consecutive games, Austin Westlake will have a chance for a fourth state title in as many years if it can get past a North Shore team seeking its fifth state crown since 2015. Last year, Westlake captured the Class 6A Division II crown, downing Denton Guyer, 40-21, while North Shore held off Duncanville, 17-10, in the Class 6A Division I title game. The last time Westlake suffered a defeat was Oct. 11, 2019, when it fell to rival Austin Lake Travis, 26-25. The Chaparrals have won each of their playoff games this year by no less than 31 points, including a 47-7 victory over San Antonio Brennan last week. North Shore — which manhandled Atascocita, 38-7, last week — has won 27 consecutive games and 73 of its last 76. The Mustangs captured Class 6A state titles in 2015 (against Westlake, 21-14, in overtime) along with crowns in 2018, 2019 and 2021, beating Duncanville each time. Among the Wildcats’ victims are district rival Prosper, a Class 6A Division 1 state semifinalist, which Guyer upended, 23-6. The Wildcats also coasted past perennial Class 5A power Aledo, 44-14. Guyer popped Southlake Carroll, 45-21, last week while DeSoto was even more convincing in a 60-24 thrashing of Killeen Harker Heights. DeSoto’s only losses this year are to Duncanville, 41-17, in a District 11-6A game on Oct. 28, and to nationally ranked St. Frances Academy (Md.) by a 41-7 score. Among DeSoto’s notable victories is a 42-23 triumph of Class 5A state semifinalist Dallas South Oak Cliff. DeSoto captured the Class 6A Division II state title in 2016, defeating Cibolo Steele, 38-29. Guyer won state titles at the Class 4A Division I level in 2012 and 2013. The winner will play Katy or Austin Vandegrift next week in the state championship game. Katy (14-0) vs. Austin Vandegrift (13-1) 1 p.m., Saturday, Alamodome, San Antonio Nine-time state champion Katy looks to enhance its storied history when the unbeaten Tigers battle talented Austin Vandegrift. The perennial power Tigers will try to reach a state championship game for the 16th time since 1994. Katy pulled away from C.E. King in the second half last week for a 56-34 win and were fueled by the running of Seth Davis, who scored six touchdowns and rushed for 241 yards. Katy has played two close games this season, but those came in Week 2 and 3 when the Tigers defeated Atascocita, 35-28, and Tompkins, 14-13. Katy’s most recent titles surfaced in 2020 (51-14 vs. Cedar Hill) and 2015 (34-7 vs. Lake Travis). The Tigers, who lost to Westlake, 45-14, last year in the Class 6A Division II state semifinals, have won 53 of their last 56 games. Vandegrift has won 13 consecutive games and defeated Dripping Springs, 27-24, last week after losing to the Tigers, 23-20, in the season opener. The Vipers stopped Dripping Springs on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter last week to hang on for the victory. Vandegrift has now reached the state semifinals for the second time in school history after losing to Temple, 76-35, in the 2014 state semis. The winner takes on Denton Guyer or DeSoto in the state championship game next week. Kinda like converting on 4th and 13? There was plenty of luck going both ways. The fact is that Silsbee had the more athletic team and got beat by a team that adjusted and executed better. You know what I didn’t see from Cuero? They didn’t give up 14 points in the first 3 minutes of the second half. They didn’t get a false start in the red zone, get bumped back five yards, then miss a chip shot game winning field goal. They didn’t fail to convert their 2pt try in the third overtime. Their players weren’t racking up personal fouls and I never saw Gobblers squabbling with other Gobblers… but I did see the Tigers do all of those things. Do you know what gifted teams do when they get beaten by inferior teams? They blame “luck.”

[Hidden Content] Some interesting history regarding the Slot-T system Coach Vance has implemented at Liberty Hill. Veteran PN-G Indian fans will recognize a name on that list of Coach Vance's Slot-T mentors. Makes for an unexpected connection between these two teams.

The constant arguing amingst players after mistakes, throwing of a helmet on the sidelines, 2 coaches arguing, etc...was not good. As a setx resident with no connection to either school I will state this as I told my buddy during the game, I came here wanting Silsbee to win and the longer this game goes the less I have a vested interest. Although improved under the "new" regime, until that mess stops Silsbee will continue to do less with more than anyone in Setx. The kids deserve better, including being disciplined.

If the had probable cause they likely would have made an arrest. Extreme suspicion, currently checking out alibis and other investigations would almost certainly not been made public. I am not suggesting that they are involved and they probably aren’t. I just think that if they are even suspicious of them, we aren’t going to know about it yet.

With only one team left from SETX, Mustang nation is in full support mode. Jump ship... I cannot. I've sat on yalls side at marching contest. Just didn't feel right. If I could I'd be there Friday. Early enough to get good seat in the middle of that sea of purple.

How well can Westlake handle North Shore’s speed? Westlake is pretty big up front, and good. Will they be able to run the ball straight at North Shore and keep them off the field? This is a matchup I woulda loved to have seen last year, and IMO, is the game of the week this week. I think Westlake squeaks this one out.

Wyatt is #16 in 5A. Madison is #1 in 3A. Dobie is a very good team. Just watched them in YMBL. BTW, Barbers Hill is #18 in 5A. I would say the Episcopal game (a 10 point loss at Episcopal) was probably the worst loss. But Episcopal has played a very strong schedule so far. The fact that Silsbee is only playing with a 1/4 of their varsity team against these good teams and competing quite well speaks volumes.

If y’all have Ex Vidor Coaches y’all should know all you need to know about the Slot T. Vidor learns from LH, who obviously have a few better players, but most of the plan is the same. On the down side, I’m sure, anticipating things like this, the LH HC keeps a little back, thus my bold “most” in the previous sentence.

Yep. I have done it. It’s delicious. Lol. We make a Thanksgiving pot pie with leftover giblet gravy, cornbread dressing and, of course, Turkey. Put it in a pie shell, cover with another pie shell or puff pastry and bake til golden brown. Excellent leftovers meal.

This is going to be a game for the ages. 2 FANTASIC teams that play GREAT football. While I hope for the PNG win, whoever wins this game will be the champ IMHO. Get some!!

I avg out the size of the Edna oline. They avg 6'2 and right under 300lbs. They have a good size oline and a couple big boys on defense.

I know you thought he may wait for a "better" place, however if he has a few good seasons he can still move on again. Who knows where it will all end for him. Very interesting and entertaining if nothing else.

Funny it seems that its always a call near or at the end of the game that will be questioned that cost the losing team the game. Fact is that bad calls or missed ones are part of the game. Football is an imperfect game, that's why it's played and why we love it. I can't remember how many Cuero games I have left fuming because I felt of a bad call and then show me video or replay of the play and OMG I wouldn't sleep the rest of the week. This game was no different. You had two great teams so evenly match that the game could have gone either way. The turning point I felt was when Silsbee had Cuero down 20-7 and seem to let off the gas pedal defensively. I also felt Cuero made better half-time adjustments offensively because neither team could stop the other. Those are my thoughts. Silsbee has a great team and from the post's great fans, I have no doubt you will be back and if Cuero is not there, I will be pulling for you. As for now thank you both for one of the most exciting games of the ages.

What you "believe" really doesn't matter. This was talked about long ago... If the right predecessor was not selected, it would all come tumbling down and we were right on the mark.

WO-S as a legendary program is done. Apparently it is going to take some folks multiple faceplants to realize it, but that winning percentage is going to plummet faster than you might expect. No one is saying that WO-S won't compete. Occasionally they will field a talented squad that will partially overcome coaching shortcomings, but our reign as a program that is routinely a cut above with kids dreaming of a silver hat from peewee on is over. Don't know what you got til its gone. We predicted this.
