The crazy growth around Hwy 59/I-69 corridor

I want to say Cleveland was 4A in 2018. 7 years later they are 6A. Went from a 900 high school enrollment to now 3736. 4x larger in a 7-8 year span. Those are just the numbers, which is very unbelievable, but does not account for who those numbers represent. That's the real issue. There are only 32 schools out over 1200 in the state of Texas that has a larger enrollment than Cleveland. Just about every single one of them are larger metro area schools. No one could have been prepared for what Cleveland has had to go through. NO ONE!!!4 points -

50% is nowhere near 90%. It’s also substantially easier to remain competitive with a handful of good athletes in 3A than it is in 6A. And a final factor here is that Diboll without a doubt has a large number of second generation Hispanics. Kids that grew up playing American sports. The vast majority of the kids moving to Cleveland have never even touched a basketball or football when they get there. I’m not saying that Hispanic kids aren’t capable of playing football and basketball. I am saying kids who don’t grow up playing those sports aren’t going to help their high school somehow just because there’s 3000 of them. It’s also worth noting that if every Hispanic kid in Diboll (500 total enrolled students) and Cleveland (3500 total enrolled students) didn’t play football or basketball, the two schools’ potential player pools would be within 50 kids of each other.3 points -

That might just mean Cleveland ISD hasn't done a great job of adding coaches (maybe bilingual) who can build rapport with the youngsters and get them engaged in athletics at a younger age. I can understand struggling in the beginning but after years of being 6A and still struggling to beat 3A teams that falls on the school board and the coaches in my opinion. Seems maybe it just isn't a big enough priority to them or else they'd figure how to get a decent roster out of thousands of kids by now2 points -

Locals meaning “non-Colony Ridge” residents. Particularly the power brokers who wield political influence. Bonds have been attempted on a regular basis including last year. They fail by a large margin. Colony Ridge is the largest migrant community in the United States. Cleveland dynamics/situation are unprecedented in the state.2 points

To get back to your “majority Hispanic but still good at football point”… Cleveland is 90% Hispanic. Less than half their football team is. Because of the influx of nearly 3000 Hispanic students in the high school they’re playing 6A ball, and 23 of those 3000 kids play varsity football. There is no comparison possible. It’s unprecedented, and it seems impossible to overcome.2 points -

not a chance. then you'd have several districts facing the same issues that Cleveland is, just on a smaller scale. Your school becomes overcrowded, your resources become stretched, you have to hire staff to deal with the influx of ESL students, your grades drop, affecting your TEA rating, school budget suffers... and that's before you ever even consider the athletic side of things, where you go up a division or two to face much larger, talented schools while gaining no appreciable talent of your own despite the influx of hundreds of kids. what school district would agree to that? This is the wrong Cleveland. It would take the political mindset of Cleveland, OHIO to pretend that this scenario is good for everyone.1 point -

Purchases Paramount Global……. While Larry Ellison himself did not personally buy CBS, his family's company, Skydance Media, completed an acquisition of CBS's parent company, Paramount Global, in August 2025 . As a result, the Ellison family now holds control over CBS and other related media assets. Details of the acquisition: Controlling parties: The deal was spearheaded by Larry Ellison's son, David Ellison, who leads Skydance Media. However, Larry Ellison was a major investor in the acquisition and holds the controlling stake in the new combined company. Merger: The acquisition was executed through a merger in which Skydance absorbed Paramount Global. The newly formed entity was named Paramount Skydance Corporation (PSKY). FCC Approval: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the transaction in July 2025, clearing the way for the ownership change. Executive changes: As part of the merger, David Ellison was appointed Chairman and CEO of Paramount Skydance Corporation. Impact on CBS: This deal places CBS and its news division under the influence of the Ellison family. Reporting indicates that the new ownership plans to shift CBS News's editorial direction to appeal to a broader ideological spectrum1 point

Would be a new type of flight I guess, because this particular principal wasn’t white. I don’t know what district you work for, but I could guess, and their roster isn’t listed online. I’d be curious how the % of Hispanic students matches up to the % of Hispanic players on the team, and then again to the % of Hispanic players on the team who make a meaningful impact.1 point -
I agree, I’m not from Cleveland area but have seen the explosive growth and development in that area. I don’t have to describe it, you all are familiar and if it’s a generational thing, then time will have to be a mitigating factor where 2nd and 3rd gen’s will have to close the gap, but as you said much harder in the upper classifications. The Hispanics in Diboll are definitely not 1st gen1 point

I agree with that 100%. But I still maintain that you’re talking about two completely different environments1 point

I wouldn’t send my kid to a high school with 3500 kids that was built for 1000 kids. Or to one where the academic rating was a D. Or to one where 90% of the students spoke a language other than English as a first language. And that’s before you ever factor in the athletics. If your kid was a talented basketball or football player would you leave him in Cleveland to get blown out every game? To play with bad 4A talent against Houston area 6A squads? There was a guy on here who was a principal in Cleveland a couple years back. His daughter was a stud basketball player. She went to Huffman. Why do you think that was?1 point

TABC Preseason State Rankings Oct. 13
bullets13 reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
Coaches fill out a form and rank a region then return it to TABC. So if a team is ranked, it's mostly due to the coaches input. But I am certain some coaches and media are not privy to all info on some teams. I knew about the two transfers for West Brook. I would have them right there with BU.1 point -

I saw WF in person against Nederland last week. They’re definitely better than last year. I sat near the WF sideline. It really seems like they’re bought in to coach mcdougald’s system, working well together. Beating Nederland should go in their records as the first consequential district win in school history. Before last week they had only ever beaten Splendora in district. Now they’re in 3rd place. Hats off to them. As far as PNG vs WF, it will be PNG by quite a bit. WF has a solid defense, and the offense has moved the ball in fits and spurts. They don’t have a lot of size or strength. They didn’t have much success running the ball against Nederland. They were smart about their play calling and took advantage of a few short and long passes to keep the chains moving, but if Ned’s secondary had been a little better or if the WF qb/wrs had not played their best game in school history, they would have almost no offense. Hopefully PnG covers the pass better. Overall, WF won’t be able to run, PnG will get to the qb better than Ned, PnG’s secondary will cover, and, importantly, PnG’s o-line and RBs will have control of the game from the get-go. PNG 45-14.1 point -

Last year, Shepherd was averaging 355 yards rushing per game going into Silsbee game. Tigers held them to 215. WO-S held them to their 2nd lowest rushing total of 223 yards. The other 8 games Shepherd rushed for 300+. I like WO-S in this one, 30-131 point -

Team stats HF Silsbee rushing 19/25 yds 50/348 yds passing 19-27, 189 yds 3-7, 30 yds total 46 plays/214 yds 57 plays/378 yds Silsbee held HF to just 1.3 yards per rush. It was also the first time this year that HF didn't rush for 100+ yards. The 214 total yards was the fewest that HF has had all season. Next lowest was against Crawford when they had 255. HF came into the game averaging 387 yards total offense (203 rushing, 184 passing) The 20 points was also the lowest score for HF this season. (came in averaging 35 points per game) Seven of those points came on the little Hail Mary pass on final play of game against Silsbee's 2nd team. Tiger defense really showed out. Silsbee run game was dominant.1 point -
