I had a local coach (whose team has played both of these teams) tell me a couple of weeks ago that this one may be a showdown of the best two teams in SETX. After getting absolutely punched in the mouth, the team comes out after halftime and proceeds to dismantle the Longhorns. If you know a thing about this sport, you know what it is when a team completely flips the script and dominates in the 2H. Almost always coaching. I’ve said this many times, WOS won’t likely have a coach anywhere near Dan Ray or Cornel the rest of our lives and probably ever. It’s insane how lucky they were to have them back to back. And in my book, CT is probably the 1-1 of Southeast Texas football coaches based on what he did as the DC under Hooks and as the HC when he retired. He was hugely responsible for all of their rings. You just aren’t going to get that again. Kalen DeBoers could be the best coach in the game right now and he still wouldn't be Nick Saban. Hickman is a first time HC that you would expect to make mistakes. Maybe a lot of them. But you also hope that he would steadily improve and take advantage of one of the unique football situations in the State. He obviously has. Consistently. It’s fine to appreciate the past and take pride in all that was accomplished. It’s also high time to move and appreciate what you have now, which is still among the elite programs in the state.8 points -

Its pretty clear to me Coach Hickman could walk on water and a portion of the WOS fan base would find fault in it... He is not Hooks or CT, nor should he be...he has to be himself and I do feel like he has grown tremendously as a HC the past couple of yrs...great comeback win for WOS6 points -

FINAL — Port Arthur Memorial 27 at La Porte 51 — Discussion
BMTSoulja1 and one other reacted to OlDawg for a topic
Stats at the bottom of the post. [Hidden Content] Before kickoff, the night was already special. Coach Forrest Wiegand was honored with his Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Hall of Honor ring. La Porte’s hometown heroes carried a massive American flag onto the field, and the LPHS Choir delivered another breathtaking National Anthem. The pageantry set the stage, but the moment the ball was kicked, you could feel that tonight was different. Winning the toss, the Bulldogs deferred to the second half, trusting their defense to make an early statement. And they delivered immediately, forcing a fumble on Port Arthur Memorial’s second play from scrimmage. One play later, the offensive line opened a huge hole, allowing Sean Simon to burst 35 yards to the house. Just 30 seconds into the game, La Porte hit the board first! The energy inside Bulldog Stadium was electric, but facing the #4 team in Texas meant a hard-fought battle was guaranteed. On the very next drive, Titan power back Piere Gray found the right edge, sprinting 70 yards down the sideline for a touchdown to tie it up 7-7 before a full minute had elapsed. Port Arthur came in boasting one of the top defenses in the state, allowing under 9 points per contest. But it was the Bulldogs' bend-don’t-break defense that turned the tide, repeatedly forcing field goals while the La Porte offense finished drives with touchdowns to take a 24-20 lead into halftime. And at halftime, there was no letdown there either! The Titan Marching Heat, Marching Flames, Chatos, and Mighty Bulldog Band kept the stadium pulsing with energy. The second half brought immediate adversity. The Bulldogs went three-and-out on their opening drive, and Port Arthur seized the momentum, taking their first lead of the night and demonstrating why they are ranked among the state's elite. After another stalled offensive drive, La Porte faced a defining crossroads. Punched in the mouth, how would they respond? Great teams answer the bell, and that’s exactly what these Bulldogs did. Taking full accountability, the players rallied to win play after play. Sean Simon ran with pure determination, setting the physical tone behind a dominant offensive line. Josh Wells displayed remarkable poise and growth under center, guiding the offense with confidence. On the outside, Smith and Wallace executed crucial blocks and kept the secondary occupied, while Reynolds came up big when his number was called, but his priority was neutralizing key defensive threats, and he did! "KD" Dieudonne provided explosive runs to keep the Titans honest, while Francisco Guzman and Tim Giddens anchored the line with the heart, grit, and leadership their former Trench Bullies would be proud of. Defensively, holding a team with Port Arthur's caliber and athleticism to just two breakaway touchdowns showed tremendous growth. Titan stud Brandon Richards has the kickoff return for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs did a great job of minimizing his impact offensively. The communication, scheme execution, and relentless "Dawg" mentality were fully present. You could hear and feel the collisions in the press box, and it was obvious La Porte wanted to set the tone. Paired with an offense averaging nearly 52 points per game in district play, this team proved it has all the ingredients for a deep playoff run. This victory was another major milestone checked off, bringing the program one step closer to its ultimate goals. As Coach Berneathy and his staff continually preach: when you focus on what you can control and win the single play in front of you, the results will follow. Overcoming tonight's trial embodied Coach Berneathy’s core belief, "Tough times create tough men, tough men create good times." Make no mistake: these Bulldogs are tough, resilient, and growing stronger every week. While this statement win carries huge momentum, the job is far from finished. The schedule now shows we went 1-0 for week 7. That is how it is supposed to be. You don't get bonus points because of the rankings. Our focus is to be 1-0 at the end of every week regardless of opponent. The Bulldogs now turn their attention to another proud and formidable opponent, Baytown Sterling, as the journey continues. Last night was what Texas High School Football is supposed to look like under the Friday night lights. Fierce competition, great bands, drill teams, cheerleaders, and proud communities showing up in support for the kids, and to enjoy fellowship with neighbors and friends. The awesome thing is we get to do it again next week as Bulldog Nation heads to Baytown’s Stallworth Stadium to take on the Rangers. Until then, enjoy this great weather, stay healthy, stay safe, enjoy your weekend and be ready to take this show on the road next week! Go Dawgs. Offensive Stats: 493 Total yards 378 Rushing on 45 Carries Sean Simon - 284 yards, 5 TD's Dieudonne TD's - 2 Rushing Smith TD's - 29 yard Reception Wells - 9/13/116, 0 INT2 points -

Willie Gaston is on the Reginald Samples trajectory. I’m a huge Kenny Harrison fan, I think he’s an elite leader of young men and am glad he was able to show some of the PAM fans that everything wasn’t his fault. That’s being said purely from a numbers standpoint he has almost twice the talent pool of Willie Gaston. NS may produce more high end talent but SC can hang with anybody in the state prospect wise so it’s not a talent issue. NS gets more consistent results because they’re just a better coached football team. I think you switch the head coaches and SC wins this game by close to 20 points with some of the offensive deficiencies NS has this year. Probably get to see this game again in a couple of months in CE King’s stadium.2 points -

Not true. They continue to grow into what we have been expecting since day 1. They constantly have us questioning them. But then they do something like this. How could we complain after the adjustments they made in order to dominate the 2nd half. Hickman is in year 5 Hooks won year 6 Thompson 5 Gary Joseph 4 Jeff Joseph 2 Surratt 2 Just saying its still very possible. But this win is theirs. As i said earlier this week. H hadn't won in HF. Check another obstacle/milestone off the list. Keep on going. We're not done yet.2 points -

Congrats to the Stangs. Great COACHING adjustments at the half by Coach H, and some bad breaks for the horns, but WOS earned that win. We had chances to put our foot on their throats but couldn’t get it done. Once they got momentum we just couldn’t slow it. No excuses, we wore down and got outplayed in the second half. I sure hope we get a second shot at them, though.2 points -
All I know is this, the dumb , inept, incompetent coaching staff that yall are always looking for any & every reason in the world to denigrate, just coached their team from a 21 point deficit, to a 14 point win. But it luck, bad juju, withchcraft , or maybe somebody kidnap all of HF good players at halftime. Once again, small , insecure people, will always be small and insecure, no amount of facts , logic, or reason will change y’all’s mind. Let me predict the future, if they win state , it’ll be because they didn’t play anybody, it was 100% because of the players, or the other team felt sorry for them2 points

That's not a representative comparison. The districts today and teams they play talent wise or nothing like those teams of the past. Even La Marque isn't the same with larger pools and more schools. Our general area has remained quite the same. If we're going to pull in the other coaches, I promise they bring more of a discipline that would reflect through performance but that's neither here nor there. The other comment is just ignorant. You like to bring in a certain topic that screams low self esteem and ignorance. By the way, why did they win all of those titles a decade or so ago. Talent plus discipline equals domination. Now that's facts. What is the overall record of the current coach in a much weaker district and being in an actual classification that's correct for size of school compared to the last couple.....? That should settle this wonderful debate.2 points -

Silsbee's Head Coach is 7-0 against the Jasper Bulldogs; '16 - 20-19 '17 - 30-23 '22 - 26-23 '23 - 21-20 (OT) '24 - 49-47 '25 - 49-14 '26 - 59-14 This is the longest running rivalry in SETX dating back to 1922, 104 years of unpredictable finishes. This rivalry has been stopped a few times because of how intense and fierce it is. This rivalry usually has playoff implications, district championships and always bragging rights for a whole section of Texas. This rivalry doesn't have a name, in Silsbee it's called the Silsbee/Jasper rivalry and in Jasper it's called the Jasper/Silsbee rivalry. It's a rivalry that spans fifty miles down Hwy 96 in the Pinywoods where East Texas and SETX collide, it's not some back door friendly neighborhood football game.1 point
