To say Kountze struggles with consistency is a massive understatement. But it’s pretty expected from a team that returned 1 Varsity starter, 0 Seniors, and a swarm of Sophomores. The two Juniors play some big time minutes though. With the 8th grader coming, Kountze can be a real problem in the next 2-3 years. If they could get the older brother back they would be that much better. Either way, the next couple years should be a fun ride.4 points

Also, let's not forget that Silsbee JV has an excellent coach in Coach Ira Brooks. Man has been so loyal to Silsbee through it all. Could easily have been a head coach elsewhere.4 points -
Big time win for your Lions. Basketball is better around here when Kountze is good.4 points

I’ve seen Kountze play several times this year and Zach Sells is the real deal. I think Kountze’s inconsistency is more about their shot selection than their age. When the 3’s are falling anyone is in trouble but that’s a dangerous formula for long term success. The one thing that will improve with age is their defense, they will get bigger and stronger which will make them better. Congratulations on a big win Lions!2 points -
Question had nothing to do with Neuman, Tom Landry or Lombardi. '74-'77 Ethridge had elite head coaching record in Texas at PNG, After '77 Ethridge had average coaching record. What changed was the question? Elite head coaching in high school doesn't really need many quality players & can win state championships at any school according to you? Biggest factor was level of talent & skilled players declined those years for Ethridge. As elite as his coaching may have been, it did not matter without a good amount of talented players.2 points

" Etheridge Records after 1977 '78- 6-4 '79- 4-5-1 '80- 7-3 '81- 3-7 '82- 4-6 '83- 6-3-1 '84- 2-8 @Round Rock" You still didn't explain that ^. I need your explanation to why he (AN ELITE COACH) managed a 7 year stretch that you would've fired him for... after winning his 2nd state title. 4 of those 7 years were below .500. Explain that. It's not about taking hall of fame status away.. just admitting that he didn't have the players. Proving that even a great coach can't do it without good players. Like I've said countless times, Bill Belichick is an average to below average coach without Tom Brady. 79-87 without him, to be exact.2 points -

It helps that there are two players who are having to play JV ball (transfer stuff) that would definitely be playing varsity right now and getting plenty of playing time. But, it also helps that the varsity is loaded and Coach Sigler is able to keep some of those guys playing JV in order to give them more PT2 points -
When shots are falling Kountze can beat anyone. When they aren’t, they will struggle (a la OF). I’ve thought EC was the second best team in the district all year but they got a comfortable win in Winnie. We will see how it goes Friday. But there isn’t a great margin between any of the top 5 teams in that district (adding Anahuac and Buna). Any can beat the other (even comfortably) on any given night.2 points

From Cardinal Backer...... My solution? A set period of benefits like we have now… 24 months or so. Once it’s done, it’s only good for products like WIC provides, the old cheese and butter like they used to pass out, and MREs like we feed our troops. My guess is that you’d have a lot fewer people on the system. Heck, prove the liberals wrong. Only give them healthy alternatives. Fresh fruit and vegetables, no processed foods, no soft drinks. My guess is that our spending in that area would shrink when they couldn’t shop like fourth graders turned loose at the grocery store with unlimited resources. Isn't this how it was when I was younger? You could only get so many months of unemployment and other handouts? When I was a younger man there was a stigma that came with being unemployed. Now it is a badge of courage. I had a friend out of work that called asking for a job. I hooked him up with a job paying $35/hr. Much less than we had made in the past but a good paying job non the less. He took the job but told me......... "This job is beneath me and I need more money." My response was, no job is beneath you when you don't have a job.2 points -
I don’t complain much anymore. But the officiating tonight was completely ridiculous. It was literally 5 vs. 8 in the first half. Samaha played a total of 4 minutes through 3 quarters. One minute for every foul he had. Sheldon had 3 in first half as well. I’ll give Huffman credit as they had a great game plan in first half and executed it to perfection. Coach Davis made some halftime adjustments. And were able to hit some big shots from Sheldon and Melvo in the second half.2 points

No Brisbane, Baltrip, or Cartwright tonight. We really need to stop playing with teams. No more taking the starters out halfway through the 1st quarter please. Might cost us dearly against a better opponent. What happened to the size Lumberton used to have? Mitchell screaming at the top of his lungs for rebounds. Bro, half your team looks like they're about 5'6. Chill out.2 points

Forgive Reagan...he isn't too good at math and doesn't realize that you would run out of coaches...maybe then, some of the "coaches" in the stands could take over and we could see how that goes?? And huge agreement with Smashmouth when he added parent and community support to my previous post...those are critical as well.2 points -

Reminds me of "oil fell from the sky" tale that clogged up the windsheild wipers on his moms car. When does this insanity end?1 point -

One common denominator for all this is...I can finish it - Superintendent. He's ran off some great teachers by the choices he's made in hiring on campus leadership, I think the same could be said about coaching as well.1 point -

That was kind of the point to my comment. When you get comfortable with a lifestyle and income, there is no motivation to better yourself.....or you get in a financial position where you can't without some big struggle, so you stay where you are most comfortable and don't grow. It always pulls on heartstrings when you say "struggling mother of 4", and I'm sure she is struggling. I have kids and the struggle is real sometimes, but that occasional struggle was paid back with unconditional love watching them grow up. My advice to that struggling mother of 4 is figure out a way to get out of the position your decisions put you in. It may takes you a few years but it is possible with hard work......1 point -

He was and deservedly so. IF he’s not the best player in the district now, he definitely should be the next two years. But he’s putting up all state number as a sophomore. There are some really fun kids to watch in this district. Sells is probably the most exciting of the bunch.1 point

I'm just gonna say this, the coach did not stop his squad from rushing shots and throwing up bad shots. Playing delay or 4 corners would've won that game by more than a dozen.1 point
