  1. +1 If a brawl actually occurred I would think this site would've known about it Friday Night, not on a Monday. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  3. Coaching is not the issue. Last years team went 2-8 as sophmores. It is a similar cycle this year. The seniors have really put the effort into this season, but no fault of their own, there just wasn't that many of them. Underclassman are all over the field on both sides of the ball. Nederland, for majority of the games, have been really competetive. Too many stretches were mistakes/turnovers are made that snowball quickly and are too difficult to overcome. I share in the frustration that we continue to make these mistakes and are not learning from them more quickly. The future is bright for Nederland. Receipts are being kept. I am thankful for Coach Rich and the rest of the staff for everything they do for our kids. Some of these posts would make you think that we do not work on anything, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I know there is a lot of people around our community who are disapointed with this season, but I assure you, these kids and coaches are more upset about it than they are. There will not be a lack of motivation for next year that is for sure.

I don't think it's panic mode yet. Give the Coach a little more time. He was handed not a bad team but a bad culture. When you have upper classman not wanting to play football because of numerous reasons, it's going to take a while. What the coach needs is support from the fan base, especially the parents.

  6. Personally, too many good teams to go through to be looking that far ahead. Also, IMO, PA Memorial needs to get their pass game going before I can consider them state champ contender.

  10. He said he would... If the Judge can order The US President to do something, couldn't that same Judge order Democrats to vote for the continuing resolution? However, I was asking your input on the fact that SO many people can't take care of themselves and what should be done. IMO, it is not OK for so many people to need help living......

  11. The intensity was high for the players during the game... It was a player only scuffle. Not a Brawl. if every time players wrestle and tussle was considered a "Brawl" we would not have much football being played.

  12. I am reminded of Austin 1985's saying...when it comes to the UIL reading a map and setting up districts based on simple geography and convenience, the UIL is blind, dumb, or both. GO INDIANS!

  17. There should be a $500 dollar limit per month on “food” benefits. The kids get two meals per day at school, so there would only be a need for one meal per day plus weekends. Some places even have summer feedings for kids. The benefits are meant to keep people from starvation, not enjoy snow crab legs. If there wasn’t so much abuse, these programs would work. I personally believe it is a joke to think some of these people are employable. They have no job skills and they could possibly break a nail. Entitlement attitudes would surely be grounds for early dismissals.

  21. Take it from someone who has seen a ton of playoff football, anyone can be a roadblock in the playoffs. Have experienced it and seen it, one game at a time is good advice. Play who is in front of you, then let some of the other guys knock each other off. One thing you learn, you can't choose who you play.

  26. Dayton without Prieto and Foster will be a long night for the Broncos. Dayton has lost their starting Quarterback for at least three years in a row and the defense has not been top notch.

It doesnt help when you are in a district trying to buuld a program with (last year) the defending state champs. The quarterfinalist in huntsville, and a couple of tough programs in Montgomery and MLC. Then this year with a solid PNG team, Montgomery team and then a couple of teams that are right there similar to you. Then you have injuries and lack depth.

  35. Thanks for bringing the numbers up. In several cases the enrollment doesn't reflect the athletic participation. Even though Nederland is around 1400 kids, i would bet they have more kids in their high school program than Memorial. No one ever talks about the amazing job PA has been able to do. They are around 1700 students also, but over half of their enrollment in hispanic, with absolutely no interest in American football. For many, english is their second language. So while Memorial plays in 5A-D1, their program has the involvement of a Silsbee..........and they still handle business. Maybe Nederland doesn't have as many students enrolled, but they definitely compete in program size & participation....for now. I disagree Rich is a good coach. Maybe a good assistant. But as your first head coaching job, this one might not be the one. Maybe a smaller school, with less visibility and a weaker district. I think he's a good guy, just in over his head. He should have started at an Evadale, not the #1 high school rivalry in the nation.

  36. First, if you don't have a quarterback that can throw...run an offense that caters to his talents. Option, Wing T, whatever.....figure it out by properly evaluating the talent you have on hand. Put the fullback back in the game. Stoker did a good job last year at FB lead blocking for Thomas, and picking up tough yards on dive plays. Rich moved him to TE, barely touched the ball this year. Just one of many bad decisions. Second, if your offense keeps the defense on the field all night, there should be more than the first team touching the field. Keep fresh kids rotating on the field without lowering the intensity/ability. First team is tired. I have more info, but I will end with, "The Standard, Is The Standard". If Rich is going to have expectations for participation, it should be across the board. Depending on the player/parent/donor.......some are held to different standards.

So what would you do differently than Coach Rich and his staff? What scheme would you base out of? Player-wise who would you put where and why? Gotta have WHY with your viewpoint from the COUCH.

I agree......And the elephant in the room, " Nederland is YOUNG'' is really true. Rich is in a tough spot as his measuring stick is the guy across the tracks. The dogs need coordinators, let's see if this happens.

  40. Some teams look to Todd Dodge to hire coaches. Vidor lets Mathews with a career record of 117-124 hire his best friend DuBois so he can build up his retirement, Ugh. Now the Buna coach with a great record of 2-16 is set to take the reigns after DuBois leaves. 👍👍 two thumbs up VISD and Jay Kilgo. Great job guys

  41. I wouldn’t call last season “very good.” Other than beating PNG, there’s not much to point at. They dropped their last three games, including getting pummeled in the first round. And, I disagree that Nederland is outmanned athletically. They aren’t. They’re big, well-conditioned, they run to the ball. They can toe up physically with anyone in the district. Nederland doesn’t need to wait for a better crop of players. They have good players right now. The problem is entirely in execution, and that’s on the coaches.

  46. They had a very good season last year. People who instantly blame the coaches every time something goes wrong show their ignorance regarding athletics. Most nights they are outmanned athletically, success isn’t always linear Let’s give the guy a 4 year window to see a freshman class through before we claim he isn’t doing anything

  47. Very disappointing to see the QB laughing after the game like he really doesn’t care and then see #10 who gives 110% every play upset. Defense played pretty solid for the most part but when your offense can’t sustain drives to give them a break it’s hard to keep a high power offense from scoring at all.

  48. Well, this explains it. I went by last week and saw them practicing Tuesdayevening. there was more grabbingass going on then practicing so that’s why they’re so bad time for new coach. I think our kids that wanna play ball and not grab ass.
