They were also horrible before a major population shift to the area. Carthage and Aledo are in the same boat as far as a major influence of population growth, new business, and new money. Just as schools can go from dominant to irrelevant.. so can the opposite happen. In fact.. it absolutely happens. Carthage and Aledo have some of the nicest facilities in the state coupled with communities willing to pour as much money as possible into the athletics program. Is Tarkington willing to do that?

I'm not trying to diminish one over another and I didn't play, so I am going by what my friends who did had to say. I was there 85-89 when the dynasty started and back then it was understood that although Dan was the head coach, that was Coach T's team. "Defense wins championships." Coach T became DC in 1981. He was also the strength and conditioning coach. Also importantly, he was the disciplinarian. WO-S' reputation is defense and conditioning. Discipline. From 1985 to now WO-S has missed the playoffs just 5 times. '92 when we forfeited some district games, '99, then 2001-2003. Coach T was gone to Palestine and Huntsville 2001-2003. It could be a wild coincidence. The district was tough. Going 8-2 and missing the playoffs is tough. But, it could also be the proof in the pudding. I bleed blue and silver. I WANT to be wrong. I just don't think I am. People were fighting for Toby because they believed he was the best chance to continue a legacy because he spent so much of his life a part of it. Every little change we hear about from outsiders coming in sounds like the death of what has worked for so long. It just sounds like it is really finally over.

Many coaches could move right in and win with that WOS tradition and a stable full of well conditioned athletes that WOS has. However, sustaining that winning tradition is another story. Time will tell but give him a chance.

Seems familiar to what happen last year at another small school with a proven winning coach who took a team to the playoffs for the 1st time in awhile then he was forced to resign.

@TigerAlumni85 I saw it coming the more he started to win. Craziest environment I have seen in sports in a while. When he lost it seemed like parents were happy, but the more he won the madder people got. The main reason is Bethea was hired after the principal who is a hometown girl, and she is the superintendent's friend. People from there have told me that she wants to try and hire her brother to take over who is certified in the same subject area as Bethea. Bethea took a 6-win 4th place team to a district championship and 15 wins. However, he was told she wanted to go in a different direction with no reason or justification. Politics in a small town can suck for sure. I am glad I retired before I got into this profession, so this salary pays for my vacations. Bethea will land on his feet but sucks for him because he did a good job with those young men.

Durability The Ravens have 8ish home games a year!! That is with a full time grounds crew. LCM field has 5 varsity games, 5 JV games, 5 freshman, 5 8th grade, 5 7th grade, I'm guessing about 20 soccer games. Not to mention practices and Track meets, field days, grad ceremonies, and other events with on field use.

Looking at the map, Fort Bend Marshall and Stafford are nearby to Westbury to the SW, Willowridge to the south, Sharpstown to the NW, Bellaire to the north, Madison to the SE and Worthing to the east. That's without getting into the charters and privates that were mentioned, like Strake Jesuit, Episcopal, and Kinkaid.

I didn't say their population was growing like Aledo. I said "as far as a major influence of population growth, new business, and new money". Three separate entities but obviously not all three playing a factor in the case of Carthage. However, the upgrades were definitely made and this level of winning happened pretty close to that. Did it not? Even still.. one of multiple variables playing into Carthage's unheard of dominance in high school football over the last decade+. The reasons why Carthage has done what they did can be argued until blue in the face, doesn't negate the fact that schools will try to replicate it but fail. There's still a common factor with Carthage, Aledo, Tarkington,.. some of the schools I just listed have had / will have skill kids go on to play big time D1 football. Tarkington does not at the moment. There are steps needed to be taken in order for schools such as Tarkington to get on the track of consistent success. Even in doing so, it will take time. Will the patience of parents/community allow for the growing pains that inevitably happen during this required time? We'll see. Just know this.. Surratt and Buchanan will be listed with the greatest coaches to have ever worn a whistle in Texas High School Football, but they couldn't go to most schools in the state for a decade and replicate what has been done in Carthage and Aledo. Even if they went together.

Pretty much. Every state has different laws but I doubt any prosecute when no one wants to file charges. Unless the victim is dead, there aren’t any likely automatic prosecutions.

I'm not sure of the HISD policy but I know there were a lot of charters, privates, magnets, etc in that area that pulled kids.

I mixed a cocktail for myself on election night and told myself that I’d at least pretend that Trump won, because I knew (as any reasonable would recognize) that he was gonna get slaughtered in the mail-in votes. It was all there in the tea leaves to read. A big part of me kept waiting for credible evidence of widespread voter fraud… it never appeared. At some point you have to concede that it doesn’t exist. But i shouldn’t be surprised. Trump himself still believes that he won. Rephrase that. He still keeps telling his diehard supporters that he won. In reality, the pleading voice begging for the Republican AG in Georgia to “just find him 11,000 votes” understood what had happened. Not one cell phone video. Not even a picture, when 7 million plus instances of fraud were ongoing. The stolen election lie is just a big fairy tale. We’re almost two years after the election and there’s still no evidence of fraud. Nancy Pelosi correctly called the technique “merchandizing the lie.” You throw out a falsehood, people repeat it (even media outlets), then you point out the coverage as proof that the lie actually occurred. People are still putting out tons of misinformation and then pointing out the misinformation as “proof” that something occurred. The article that you quoted a couple of days ago gave “proof” that malfeasance occurred because they weren’t able to audit the actual ballots… the normal destruction of records is viewed as “proof” that election fraud occurred by hardcore reality deniers.

PNG DOES NOT have the talent to win a state championship in 5A, HAS NOT HAD the talent to win it in 5A, and WILL NOT be getting the talent to win a state championship in 5A. Bellichek isn't winning a state championship if he comes down from New England to coach them. Nobody is blaming the kids or the coach. It's reality. Now lets get back on topic.
