    PNG v. Fort Bend Marshall

Agreed. Nothing to lose. You can't play a normal game against a team where your normal game isn't going to cut it. So go full Harlem Globetrotters. Onside kicks, fake punts, 4th down attempts, you name it.

  3. When Yates dropped down a conference they were serving up the same dish. I was over here in Houston listening to Yates fanatics talking that noise: "JY is gonna when every game, they will win state every year." Tbh they have won more than they have lost. They have won the lion's share (no pun intended) of rings, but they haven't won all of them. BU's legacy won't be built on dominating the smaller schools in the golden triangle. It will be built on how they handle conference competition, year in and year out. Back when PA Lincoln was around their reputation was not built on how they dominated the greater Beaumont area. It was built on marching thru the playoffs and bringing home state trophies. Year in and year out, that is not easy to do.

  4. Thunderstorms during the evening followed by occasional showers overnight. Storms may contain strong gusty winds. Low 58F. S winds shifting to WNW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70%. I think this game should be moved to Saturday afternoon.

  5. The fortunate thing is that Coldspring has only 1 district game (12/22 vs. Onalaska) in that time period. Their next district game after that is 1/5 at Trinity.

  6. So Huffman looks like the debate team? WHat does a debate team look like? What does a basketball team look like. If you watched #3 Iowa play on tv couple nights ago, one might conclude they look like a debate team.

  7. Man I hate to see this. I know it’s done in the best interest of the kids. I sure hope they get this virus under control before the UIL starts canceling seasons again.

  13. Maybe. There are five names on that list with either a 1 win or a 0 win season... Matthews isn't one of them. So.. Just saying.

  14. To heck with a new head coach. Don’t make the same mistake Nederland did in the mid-90’s. After a few years of not much success, someone came up with the wild idea to go outside to an untested long time assistant coach. They hired some guy named Larry Neumann. I could have told them that it would never work but they didn’t ask me. Stay inside and keep the paperwork in order. That is the way to move forward!!

  15. Well, if you take it at face value I guess you're right. To be clear, I don't think gathering with your family is ever a bad thing. I am also willing to bet that for some, the time they spend with their football "family" may be the brightest spot in their day.

  17. Bush stepped in as a freshman and led his team to a first ever state championship. He had help but it would not have happened without him. I've never seen or heard anyone around here do that.

    WOS vs Lumberton

Lady Raiders are very fortunate to have a roster whose players all have well defined roles and play very hard trying to be good at those roles. That can be credited to the coaching staff I believe. It helps to a have a group of players that has played from Little Dribblers age, and to have four seniors and a junior that start, each of which has a unique skill set so that they ultimately compliment each others primary skill, and make the team stronger. Throw in some younger players whose games are growing, and you end up with a roster that will play very very hard.

  19. That would depend on the rules set out by the DEC. Unlike football, there may be opportunities to make up these games.

  20. Nederland plays a lot of close games and wins them. I think that's what happens here but just to piss off dogs fans. Sterling 28-27 Nederland.

  23. It’s more of an exaggeration than a stretch. McClure is a good shooter but I wouldn’t compare his game and Bush’s. Players like Bush don’t come along very often.

  24. Trump knows just like all presidents have known. Only difference is he doesn't need to keep quiet. The powers that be would like to shut him up. His youngest son Barron is the key to the future. Or the past?

  26. He doesn’t want any. I offered to give him every team in the district and I get Silsbee. Name his price and we can post the cash. He was going to PM me. Still waiting....

  27. Silsbee will be fine, I see them winning 4 out of there next 6 games against Woodville, Orangefield, Lufkin and Center, taking an L against Nederland and BU. I am sticking with my earlier predication of Silsbee winning their district and playing HJ in the Regional Quarterfinals.

  28. Congrats to all of them, but a special congratulations to Assistant Coach of the year: Coach Trahan! 🙏🏻

  29. By next year we should have a good idea of where Silsbee stands. I still think we'll be okay come district and playoff time this year. We go into district without winning a single game, I might start to worry a little. We've got some other kids in the pipeline that already look to be excellent ballers. A lot of them won't make it to high school in time to play with our current kids though. BU should make it to state this year. What's the main thing standing in their way of a title? FB Hightower and Lancaster? Either them or some other Metroplex school, I'd guess.

  30. Alot of clock management and Jenkins really wasn't able to break many long runs against Vidor. I think his longest run against us was about 30 yarder which went for a TD. I know alot of his yards came in the 2nd half, cause he was held to only 50 something in the first half. I can definitely see him getting 200+ if LBJ can't manage the clock and keep him and that offense off the field.

  33. The formula I am referring to has nothing to do with offensive scheme. It is the formula of putting his best athletes on offense. Vidor traditionally does not do this, unless it is a Montana Quirante, or other similar type player, who they play on both sides of the ball. But Vidor's defense is the priority, in PNG, offense is the priority.

    How's this for Logic?

I can transfer some lead from my .357 magnum to his chest. Lead has to be worth something. Then I can say,”Sue me now punk”. Hopefully he has life insurance so his family will be covered. That should become law just in case people don’t feel generous with their goods.

  37. I was thinking about that game when I made my last post. I also was trying to allude to there is no more Central, or Ozen. All the players and resources are concentrated in one program now. McCain, Adams, Bush, et al, not walking out of the dressing room for Silsbee anymore. They said the same thing when the greats of the past left too. It is time for the new guys to write some more chapters in the history books.

    Right call?

I say call it a technical foul. If you can't pass any better than that then the other team should get free throws and possession.

  39. The early seventies were hard times for Vidor, but during the mid- and late-seventies and continuing into the mid-eighties, Vidor had strong teams. The problem was only one team went to the playoffs and Vidor was in a district with PN-G, Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson, Beaumont French, and Beaumont West Brook. All of those teams won a state championship or made the state finals during 1975-1985. SE TX had its fair share of champions back then. Vidor made a run in 1978 under HC Philip Brown. They won the DC and played a good Aldine team in the Astrodome that was probably twice their size in enrollment. People in Vidor must have forgotten the strong Pirate teams coached by Ronnie Thompson (1975 and 1977) and Philip Brown (1978-1983). Under Ronnie Thompson, the Pirates threw the ball all over the yard when most teams were running 3-yards and a cloud of dust. And, he had a bag of trick plays for every game. Add to that some strong defenses, and the Pirates won some games. Under Philip Brown, the Pirates loaded up on the line of scrimmage and hit people in the mouth. They had big OL kids and usually a big RB to pound people into submission. That's what they did in 1978. All of that to say, Coach Matthews would be third in my pecking order. He's had some good teams. He uses his personnel and finds a way to max out wins. He runs a clean program and high school coaches from Orange to El Paso love the guy. If he ever left Vidor, he could have another job within hours. Several HC would hire the guy just to have him on their staff. He is a known commodity and a well-liked man. Go Indians. Peace.

  40. 4a school playing a 6a school always tough and makes it’s tougher with a long road trip. BC vs PNG was a barn burner last night such a a great game to watch.

  41. Can’t say I disagree with that, Vidor had some guys that could go on the Dline, Linebacker and Secondary. They could have really helped the offense get going but didn’t mix them in until it was too late in the season, even then didn’t use them enough both ways.

  42. Coincidentally, I have some coaching friends that coach some "really good kids". The argument I've made (even on this site) for quite some time is that a team has to have a decent coaching STAFF that's capable of getting maximum potential effort from the players, a group of good players, and favorable competition in order to make any considerable noise in the W column. More times than not you have to have at least 2 of those 3. I'm not defending this guy.. I don't even know him. Just reiterating that there's much more involved than whoever the head coach is. Wanna make a change? Make a change.. but there is no quick fix. Often it's just the opposite.

  46. Shea Adams, Freshman QB this year is great. This group of Freshman boys are big, strong & fast. Offense will be OK. Let's get a new Defensive Coordinator on Varsity, then at least some adjustments will be made when defense can't stop another team's offense & the defensive boys will be coached on defense properly. Not just position, but reaction.
