  1. Accidents happen it doesn't matter if the player is in season or not. This is not on a coach or a player its just an unfortunate situation. Many athletes all across the state participate in multiple sports at the same time. Shoot Prime suited out for a professional baseball game and a professional football game in the same day.

  2. Coach Foster and I had talked earlier in the season and he told me this might be his last year to coach but still wasn't sure. Well, he is sure now. It's been a great privilege to cover his teams. I always enjoy watching his teams play. They are always one of the best coached teams year in and year out. But it's more of an honor and privilege to call Kevin my friend. He is just an absolute great man. He and his dad are the reasons I am a big Big Sandy fan. I will miss Coach on the sidelines. Just won't be the same without him. But I also know we will keep in touch and he will be greeting me when I attend Wildcat basketball games. Congrats Coach Foster!!! Job well done my friend!

  4. Very well said. I’ve always said he’s the most underrated coach in our area. In my book, no one “taught” the game better than Coach Foster. And it showed watching his teams play. And as great a coach as he is, he’s an even better person. That’s saying something.

  5. And Nederland has beat teams from bigger schools plenty in the past, including PNG. . What was the excuse all those years Neumann sent them home packing? They had a bigger enrollment then. I wouldn't count on school size dictating the size of the fight in the Dog. 😈

  6. I think you would be surprised. It is not publicized, but most schools that want to be good at baseball play fall baseball.

  7. Hate to tell everyone, but if your kid plays college baseball, he will be lifting weights in season and sometimes heavy. Also a lot of running. Carry on….

  8. I could talk forever about this.. I have quite a bit of first hand knowledge about the way kids feel about this subject. I don't agree with the kids when they want to quit one sport to "focusing on one sport" but understand reasoning why they quit especially in JR. and SR. year... Keep these two things in mind. It you agree with these two statements then you can understand: Multi-sport kids should be pushed to play what they want to play... Kids should be never be mandated to play any sport.. All repercussions fall back on the AD... It's the AD's program. If they mandated it, the AD has to take responsibility.. even in accidents... Good AD's know how to navigate multi-sport kids. They inspire the want to play. Bad AD's do not and cause tension inside their entire athletic programs.. this is when you see kids that contribute in one sport quit usually after 10th grade year.. Really bad AD's have caused so much damage that the kid quits being a multi-sport athlete (quits football) after his 8th grade year. He never even gets to coach them in high school. Again I could get very specific but not gonna.

  9. Sign of today's times...we have to have someone or something to blame for anything that goes wrong...sometimes things just happen and it isn't anyone's fault...I promise you that kids do far dumber and worse things on their own time that can cause injury...Heck, you can get hurt walking across the street...whose fault is that? As for lifting, how exactly do you plan to get stronger if you DONT lift all year long? I have never seen anyone gain significant strength taking months at a time off from the weight room

  10. when kids play multiple sports in high school they should be allowed to focus on one sport at a time. There's no reason a baseball player who's about to go to the playoffs should get hurt running football drills in April. Imagine if this had been reversed and a star football player shattered his wrist taking mandated varsity batting practice in September.

  11. Participate in everything! Don't live in fear of injury...if you are playing with that mindset you probably aren't going to be very successful in the first place. Elite athletes play multiple sports a lot of times at the same time. Unless you are making a living and putting food on the table with your abilities then you have no excuse to not be doing everything.

  12. Hmm..... I tend to disagree. I was a multi sport athlete in High School and am now a coach. Kid is not going to be a very good hitter if he only hits in the spring and summer, I took BP and threw (to keep my arm in shape) during football and basketball season. Kid is not going to be a very good QB, WR or DB if he only throws passes, runs routes or covers receivers in the fall or during a few 7 on 7 games after baseball is over. And a kid is never going to be good shooter of the basketball if he only shoots during the basketball season. Skills are honed, not mastered, they need to be developed and practiced repeatedly.

  14. Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning? Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.

  15. Are you kidding me? That's pretty funny coming from someone who post a lot of feelings. The one that just has to post on FB on news headlines when it's about other city news. That's being in your feels.

  16. I did not insult him. I love him as a coach but he has to have the kids to win. Some people on this site think that an elite coach can win anywhere. That is just not true. png won state because they had the players and had an exceptional good coach.

  18. This is an easy one. We have let grifter unqualified coaches infiltrate our children and convince them that they will be D1 athletes if they only focus on a single sport. We've got kids, with single digit ages, playing their sport year-round to "maximize exposure" despite the fact that most college coaches on the recruiting trail will value a multisport athlete. This translates to the school year and ends up with kids being football, basketball, baseball only kids. Track is pretty much the only one left that keeps kids playing other sports and that's primarily because football coaches demand their football kids be track athletes. I literally talked to a man last night, who just moved to Texas from Oklahoma who was telling me his kid played on two different football teams during the season last year. One for his school, one for his select league. During the week the kid was a RB for his school, and on the weekends, he was a QB for his select team. This would equal 7 days a week of full contact football for a 6th grader......6th grader. Once that ends, rolls straight into 7 on 7 for the spring and back to football in the summer. All this for a kid, who seems to be a good athlete, but probably has a ceiling of D2 at best, if he doesn't burn out before that. Parents are silly and think they can develop their kids into being the next Quinn Ewers, but they completely miss the biggest factor in creating that type of athlete.....genetics. Genetics are undefeated. Always have been, always will be. Play sports because you love to compete then compete in everything you do. Quit giving bullsheet rings to "state champions" every single weekend all over the US and get back to valuing team championships won at the community level to build the continuity when they are young. This is the only way to reestablish the pride once felt by every kid in every town across Texas when they got to put on a uniform with their school colors. Otherwise, we can kiss the magic of high school sports goodbye.

  19. I'm going to agree with this. Individual drills would be fine, but a varsity baseball player should not be involved in full pad practices during the baseball season. Especially, if he is a contributing player on a playoff bound baseball team. This is irresponsible and selfish of the AD/HFC.

    Multi-Sport Athletes

If there's a specific situation that started this thread, I don't know the details. Nor do I care. But I do have an opinion about what I'm gathering from some of the comments. My opinion: I do believe that an AD should leave the players of a particular sport to their respective head coach during that season. The varsity players of that sport anyway. I believe it's a little different concerning the sub varsity players of that sport. If an AD/HFC decides to grab some JV baseball players for some offseason football stuff during the athletics period, I don't have AS MUCH of a problem with it. I would still consider it a common courtesy to discuss with the head coach of that particular sport to consider their thoughts on it. I also believe that ALL athletes should be lifting and running all year. When in a particular season, I believe that the head coach of that sport should control the reigns on that topic to implement some sport specific lifting/running during their season. But all athletes should be in the weight room year round. As far as playing multiple sports? I'm an advocate. I know that the popular idea is for potentially good/great players in a specific sport to "focus" on that sport. And I agree.. but focusing on one sport doesn't mean stopping the others. It just means prioritizing time in a way that extra work is put into that specific sport. After hours, weekends, holidays/summer, etc.. Just because you plan on making a push into college baseball (for example) doesn't mean you can't work on baseball during other sports seasons. That's exactly what I did.. and countless others. Plus, it's important to maybe learn how to be a role player in a sport that you're not the best at. Because that's coming. That's my opinion. And I come from an era where kids played multiple sports if they knew it would be helping. Helping their classmates.. or just contributing to school pride. I hate knowing that there are schools that could be much more competitive if their kids would just come out. It's hard for me to understand if I'm being honest.

  21. Getting hurt in another sport isn’t the problem. Getting hurt in offseason workouts in the middle of district is. He had surgery this morning and will probably miss football next season anyways. At least they got to workout in pads in April.

  22. They lift around their baseball schedule. They don’t go heavy on game days or do shoulder workouts before they pitch that night. They damn sure aren’t tackling each other.

  23. I was not talking about lifting and speed/agility drills... Every good coach in ANY sport should be doing this in season... We are talking about mandated SPORT participation in OFF SEASON...

Not really, most of the people I played with were multi-sport athletes. This specialization stuff didn’t start until later. No one was blamed if someone got hurt in one sport and missed time in another. Life happens.

  26. Here is the facebook post for y'all I’m not going to put names or schools on this, but feel free to screen shot it to whoever you like. Yes yes, I’m a baseball guy. But I love football more than baseball. My son played all three sports in high school. So I’m not a baseball only guy. But if your high school football coach has your Varsity baseball son doing football drills in pads right now, that is wrong. At one certain school, the baseball team lost their starting third baseman (Gladiator kid) because he dislocated his elbow in a football drill. Two weeks before high school baseball playoffs, and now his season is done. Basically this coaches decision to make Varsity baseball players do football workouts on April 22nd, 5 months before Friday night lights, just sabotaged this kids season, and the teams season. And once again, I’m a huge football supporter, but this is wrong!! This is why kids stop playing football. Coaches preach they want kids playing all the sports, well how about respect baseball season, from Feb to May ! If the shoe was on the other foot, and a kid got injured playing baseball in October and he was a varsity football starter, what would that coach do? Be pissed off! And I would 100% agree with him! There is a reason I don’t have a fall baseball program with football guys. Because I respect football season. All I’m asking is football coaches to respect baseball season. Respect the High School baseball coaches that have worked their ass off to try to get their team in a playoff situation. Support them, don’t Sabotage them by taking their players out because of a “all important April 22nd” football workout. And I don’t want to hear this was bad luck, or any crap like that!!!A lot of these kids are Division One Baseball players, and just good high school football players. If you want to continue to have these kids play football, start doing the right thing. If not, I’m going to try to get those kids quit football and just focus on baseball. And let me say it again, I want all my Gladiator kids playing football!! I go support them watching their football games, and I love it!! But not at the cost of an injury in April playing football, not baseball . Bad miss……Do a better job! Be a better football coach, and remember, it’s not about you, but it’s about the kids who respect you and will do anything you ask them to do. Don’t punish them for being a good baseball or basketball player!!

  30. Little Johnny that plays baseball all year can get hurt too...Tommy John is a thing. Bball is played alot once the school season is over. Who gets the BLAME for all those injuries? NOBODY, stuff happens......Certainly can't blame a HC/AD who is trying to better his program.....

  35. OMG do you even realize what you just posted? Bidens Federal government is corrupt to the core. The US is now officially a Bananna Republic like a Venesuela. The FBI, DOJ, CIA, IRS, every single goverment agency is so corrupted now, how could any election fraud problem POSSIBLY be "fixed"? It would take these corrupt criminals to come clean and turning themselves in. That will never ever happen. Its just the opposite now, just their strategy has changed. The agenda is multiple cooridinated lawsuits and prosecutions of their political opponent, Trump. Its perfectly timed for maximum damage to him during the election cycle. Even senile Joe was laughing about Trump beeing "a littlet too busy right now" to be on the campaign trail. Putin does the exact same thing, except Putin simply kills his rivals. The democrats have engineered a high tech, highly cooridianted legal lynching of Trump. Less actual bloodshed, but same eventual election result.

M.Thomas is more than qualified to be a head coach . If you wanna go deeper Coleman doesn’t win that state title without Coach Saveat the same man many of yall ridiculed during his tenure as Ozen coach. Nothing against Coleman he’s a great guy and I rock with him too. This isn’t a geriatric center we need young energetic coaches who are going to build a PROGRAM , not for the moment but for the long haul. And as I always say ask the kids who they want to play for , they are going to hang it on the line for him . Peace brother !!!!!

  39. I went to png and we did not have the numbers nor the size that png has now. Png won state because they had the size in the trenches that it takes to win. Nederland was small in the trenches. No one could have done any better last year. They made the playoffs with a undersized team.

  42. I've been wanting to respond to this.. I get to see most of these players up close more than most people. Boulwen is pretty closed to 6'4". Walker is probably in the 6'1" tp 6'2" range. Johnson may actually be bigger than 6'2" He has grown an incredible amount since football season. I would not be at all surprised if he was 6'4" or more by next year. On top of that he just finished third in the district 200 and ran legs on the 4x100 and 4x200 that placed third. I feel he probably will be able to take Miller's place on the court and may well be the best athlete on the floor. I would love to think that Troy might grow another inch or two before next year.

  47. it's a tie. what's hilarious is the superiority complex both sides have about it. I honestly can't decide what's worse: the left pretending biden is good, or the right pretending that if Trump doesn't win it's somehow the left's fault more than their own for not picking literally any other candidate, which would've resulted into a cakewalk into the oval office.
