Your stance on the subject shows just how much you choose to not acknowledge kids are moving into SOC every single year strictly for football and they are being recruited there by SOC coaches. You are making a fool of yourself. But please, carry on.

I agree with everything bolded. As for the sour grapes, sometimes they're warranted. My team will never lose to SOC in a state final game, so while I have an opinion on the matter, it doesn't affect me the same way it's affected PNG. If I lived there I'm sure I'd be a lot more passionate about the subject. I'm also sure there have been plenty of sour grapes in Silsbee over the last decade when their basketball teams deserving of being state champions have lost out to houston teams or Faith Family because of a broken system. And i personally don't blame anyone from Silsbee a bit if they're still upset. As for SOC, there's a difference between having done no wrong and not having been caught doing wrong. Is it possible that every D1 player that transfers in is doing so on their own with no encouragement or interference from the coaching staff? I suppose it is. But that seems unlikely, and I'm not sure how anyone could be confident saying that it's happening that way.

What evidence of recruiting is out there that the UIL has? If someone has it I'm sure they'd be happy to take it and make an example of someone. If the kids that go there have clean PAPFs the UIL's not going to intervene unless there's evidence of recruiting...the only time I can recall a kid transferring to SOC and there actually being a hearing was the kid from Corsicana who signed with A&M and he was cleared....

5A/6A have larger numbers of athletes that don’t play spring sports, therefore they have the participation to conduct functional practices. You get to have 18 practices if you do spring ball and the sacrifice is starting a week later in the fall. Really helps set your rosters before you break for the summer. Allows you to conduct meaningful football skills during the summer as well.

Rules were broken yes. Punishment is warranted yes. I personally believe they should have been a harsher punishment. The head coach didn’t act alone and fit all the kids for shoulder pads and helmets. He didn’t run the practice by himself. All the coaches should have some type of punishment.

I think this subject can be viewed in many ways. But what I believe 89Falcon is trying to say is that these student athletes that are mentioned were all ruled eligible. The coaches that the player transferred from didn't check the box, the DEC the player is transferring to didn't rule ineligible (and that matters the most since it's comprised of schools that will be competing against said player(s) ), or these players sat out the necessary time before being allowed to play varsity sports. Like Matt stated, UIL will most times not step in on these type situations and will just about always rule the same as the DEC. Should policy change? I say it should. But until then as long as players are ruled eligible, the schools can carry on. Stating that schools recruit can be viewed as sour grapes. Not saying that's the case here but most of the complaining normally comes from the losing teams. In the case of SOC, all their players were ruled eligible so they have done no wrong.

i have mixed feelings on the topic at hand, but having read through this thread it's definitely worth noting that you're being a bit obtuse on this one (intentionally, no doubt, as you're no dummy). While it is inarguable that schools gain and lose students every year, it's also inarguable that there are a few schools who consistently gain new students who "coincidentally" happen to be D1 football recruits. It's obvious what happens at several of these schools, but in some it's provable through common sense. Let's take SOC, for example, which is a C-rated campus, and is located in South Oak Cliff, an F-tier community to live in. it's kind of hard to find a really valid reason why the recruits (i mean transfers) have moved from A or B rated school districts, generally MUCH safer neighborhoods, and areas with more job opportunities and housing other than football. As for your **, generally transfers who are transferring for non-football reasons aren't transferring to schools that have great football programs, and also aren't transferring to schools getting large numbers of obvious football related transfers. If shepherd gets a stray running back move-in here or there, or some kid from beaumont moves out to HF, etc, it's one thing. But something tells me if half of the D-1 recruits from around SETX started moving into HF every season and were allowed to play lots of folks would have lots to say about it, including the coaching staff of Shepherd (regardless of what their PAPFs say).

With 7 offensive and 10 defensive starters returning along with 33 lettermen returning, I don't see them going 3-7 and winning just 1 district game this season. DCTF has them being one of the most improved teams for this season. I got them making playoffs.

In regards to Faith Family, I think that's a case of apples and oranges. Charter schools should never be allowed to play UIL or at least have to play 6A. There is a reason why Faith Family no longer plays UIL. As for the Houston teams, that can be viewed as the same as SOC. But like I said, the complaining still came from the losing team. Personally, I didn't have much issue with Silsbee losing to Yates or Washington (we did beat them more than they beat us). I did have issue with Faith Family. They never belonged in UIL.

So, let me get this straight... We have a slimeball buffoon as a POTUS, who isn't running in November, who can't run for POTUS again, and who won't have a big enough majority to do much of anything long-term for the last 2 years of his Presidency. But, things will be so much better when we elect a bunch of people who actually have in their platform they want to move towards communism. People talk about debt. Medicare for all? Free housing? Free child care? Open borders with benefits to all? I guess eliminating the military and police will solve the deficit those programs will create. Ha! Not even close. I may not be a big Trump fan, and have never voted for him. But, to trade one short time, inept POTUS for communism? That's just idiotic. This reminds me of the Red Guards in the '60's in China. Have not seen an answer yet. Just that a few kids transferred. There is not a school in Texas that did not gain new students or lose new students. **worthy of note that no one is mentioning the schools that do not win big and anything about their “transfers”.

How do you know? How many people moved to or from SOC in the past year? And what were each of their reasons? (been waiting on someone with direct knowledge like yourself). Why did the DEC not reject the SOC transfers? Since it would directly hurt their schools? Did PNG submit any PAPFs this year?

Why does the UIL ignore SOC recruiting? No one moves to SOC for academics.

If any student athlete participating in competition would be ineligible by current rules. Then the team is only qualified for select playoffs. "Open" is too vague and like u say includes too many small schools. For example last year Louisiana 5A had 36 select (Edna Carr 14-0) and 41 non (Quachita Parish 11-4) Would more coaches check a box and DEC do their job? I think if they would. Especially if they know they dont have to face Carthage or DeSotOakinVille in December

I've raised this issue multiple times because I believe there are documented and firsthand examples that warrant discussion. Dismissing those examples without examining them doesn't address the underlying concern. One example I personally witnessed was two SOC coaches discussing their quarterback after a state championship loss. One coach remarked, "We ain't winning one with this cat. I hope we get [player] to move in." While a single conversation does not prove systemic wrongdoing, it illustrates the mindset that many believe contributes to the issue. There is information available for those willing to research it. I don't claim to have every piece of evidence compiled, but it's inaccurate to suggest there is no basis for these concerns. At the same time, it's equally unsupported to categorically state that these situations never occur. Both positions require evidence. From my own experiences around these programs, I've spoken with coaches who have expressed frustration over the competitive imbalance they believe exists. The concern extends beyond one school and has been raised in discussions involving programs such as Denton Ryan, Argyle, DeSoto, and South Oak Cliff, among others. Their view is that some schools benefit from player movement in ways that place neighboring programs at a competitive disadvantage. None of my comments are based on rumors or what I wish were true. They are based on firsthand observations, conversations with coaches, and concerns that have been expressed within the Texas high school football community. Those concerns were also reflected in the anonymous coach responses published in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football coaches survey, where coaches openly discussed transfer-related issues and competitive balance.

You know this does not happen. SOC brings in kids every year from outside the district. I will wait while you name me one that sat a year. Isaiah Udom played for Mansfield his sophomore year then started for SOC his junior year. I am sure he moved from an A rated school district to a school with historically poor academics and a 97% poverty level because of something other than football. There are two to three every year. Show me one that sat out.

I am happy for all that benefit from the market growth. However, the downside is the cost of living for those on the lower end keeps getting worse. The divide is growing.

With Hardin out of the way, I believe EC will finish 2nd behind the Orangemen. How many transfers did EC get this year? Good for at least 1 or 2 since 1863.

Houston Strake Jesuit turned in 2974 enrollment for this past realignment. DCTF has them at 2974 and finishing 4th in 21-6A. UIL uses total enrollment of 9-12, not just the male pop. But, SJ had to agree to play 6A in order to participate in UIL. It's just now they have 6A numbers.

Recruiting is not conducive to an even playing field in UIL play. Especially for smaller schools. A team like SOC might not be necessarily "recruiting" but that's still not really an even playing field because they're not a true 5AD2 in my opinion. They have 5AD2 enrollment numbers but they have millions of kids they can chose from or attract while still keeping their enrollment numbers low. Theres probably not a perfect answer for those situations but the UIL should continue to work on keeping the playing field even as possible and not let the whole system get completely polluted with this madness.

Should the UIL require open enrollment schools to play sports in the highest classification? The private schools who elect to play in the UIL are required to play in the highest classification. Houston's Strake Jesuit comes to mind. SJ's enrollment fluctuates between 1,200 and 1,400, but the SJ sports teams must play in 6A. Should the open enrollment schools be treated the same way? Both systems, private education and open enrollment public schools, can cherry pick athletes.

Blame it on the select sports culture........ If I don't like it one place we will just go somewhere else and parents have encouraged it. Kids play for the name on the back instead of the name on the front now.

It's out of control. Especially in Dallas.
