  1. Alright, I think that's enough. Rule 15 of the SETXSports rules prohibits the posting of unsubstantiated rumors. The original subject of this thread is completely unsubstantiated and, based on my own research, verifiably false. The speculation about the future of Nederland's runningback is also unsubstantiated. This thread will be locked. I look forward to what Jeff Joseph will do with the Port Neches-Groves Indians in 2024 and beyond.

  3. More of a combination. Community has just as much to do with it as anything; For instance, PNG's community spirit is what allowed them to spend thousands of dollars to hire Dodge to even go find a great coach. Without the right school board and community, that ain't happening in the first place... And I'm not a PNG guy, but I recognize one of the finest football communities in the nation when I see it.

  4. Field a team with a good coach but the kids are slow, all Freshmen, unintelligent and possibly mentally disadvantaged. How much winning will that coach do? Now I understand that’s a stupid example, but it’s just to serve as an exploded view. You gotta have a combination of coaching, kids & community which includes parents and administration. It takes all 3.

  5. I really think there is a lot of jealousy here. Are dudes mad they don't have college degrees, but coaches do? I'm sure a lot of them make more money than high school coaches, but I'm certain that many also do not. I'm just trying to figure it out.

  6. I can't even get him to explain to me why Bill Belichick is sub .500 without Tom Brady.. or hasn't won a playoff game since Brady left NE. Or why some is his elite coaches (by his definition) didn't win another state title after reaching elite status (according to his definition). So.. again. You're wasting your time. Might as well just let him believe that any coach could go to any team and win it all eventually. Wait.. I think 7 years is his timeframe.

  7. I don’t know that SOC makes it back next year. That region is stacked and they will be adding Anna (4A D1 State Champ) who is moving up. I like PNGs odds though. All that said it is very hard to win 5 straight against top talent each week, especially when you go into each game with a bullseye on your back like PNG will next year.

  8. Nederland has the same problem with politics that Beaumont does. Homeboy hires and consulting rather than winning games with the best players and coaches.

  12. I think you are overestimating SOC's talent this year..PNG especially up front IMO was more talented

  13. They’re just mad because “coaching” beat “talent!” They, like some here, don’t understand it! 😎😁

  15. Louisiana does a Power ranking and makes the playoff bracket based on that with no geographic considerations. Imagine all the bickering and arguing over seeding. Also that 1st round matchup between Port Arthur and El Paso would be fun…. 😀

  16. That parade and pep rally was nuts last night. I pulled the defense with my truck and trailer and couldn’t believe the amount of people there. The community support is unmatched.

  25. This game is more than just coaching. It is a culture. Yes good coaching is important, but it isn't everything. It takes a football culture to be good at high school football. It starts with a foundation and identity, typically built in a weight room. That translates to kids improving physically and buying in to that identity. It also takes a community to support the team and coaches to guide the team and facilitate that growth. PN-G has built an identity that is forged in their weightroom. There is an ENORMOUS level of support for the team from the community. They have an awesome coaching staff that guides them in the right direction. Nederland lacks that identity. If you ask me what makes a true difference in HS football. It is a combination of a lot of things. It takes sacrifice by all. Again, i'm not saying coaching is not important, but I would argue the other obvious things that are very different about PN-G and Nederland. Recently, the culture and identity is just not the same.

  27. My post was not meant to go that deep, but the info is welcomed. I am sure Peveto & Luttrull are in the mix also if they applied. Theriot has a wealth of defensive knowledge learning from Larry Neuman, Delbert Spell & Randy Theriot. Speaking of Huckaby, he was my 7th & 8th grade football coach back in the mid 80's very intense, serious & positive dude.

  28. The soph QB really stepped up, and the big Offensive line did too. The receiver-back up QB - punter #11 is a jr, and will play a big part again next season. #15 rb will also. On defense there will be lots of big roles to fill. But db #10, and LBs 4 and 43 are juniors. I'm not sure how many D linemen with starting or regular roles are returning. Anyway, it's been fun watching this year's team, and it's been fun watching the seniors play for the past 6 years. Or 5 years? They were undefeated 2 years in middle school, and "won district" as a jv team, then went to state their 2 years on varsity. (This is speaking by-and-large, since a few of the SRS played on varsity as sophomores.)

  29. Just another outlandish conspiracy theory??? Trump will have to run as a 3rd party candidate because the RNC won't nominate him no matter how we the people vote in the primaries. Both parties learned from Hillary that Trump can grab em... and still win. So the democrats nominate MObama to replace JB. They need a historic vote for the first woman president to make sure Trump has no chance. Both sides stuff the boxes this time. With Vegas taking bets on the over/under.

  30. this will not effect the outcome of the game but the ref in question may get some type of reprimand from this.

  32. This is incredible. They had every opportunity to look at who was on the ref crew, and approved that crew anyway. How can there have been a lack of transparency when the ref bios were public information? Also, that ref only even threw one flag the whole game, and that wasn’t the call they’re complaining about. That ref has no children attending PNG, which is the only violation possible. Wasn’t the ref crew from the Dallas area last year? Not to mention, this sends the worst possible message to the students : That there’s no such thing as graceful defeat, that every disappointment must be appealed, that every failure is a robbery instead of just a failure.

  33. Not to hijack the thread, but on the subject of RBs...we will miss #33. Not the biggest and not the fastest, but he had patience, good vision, he was fearless, and his ball security was top notch. He was fast enough when it counted and he had the heart of a champion. For next year, #15 will be the bruiser, and some people at the LH semifinal game say there is a SOPH and a FR that will open some eyes this spring and next year. Supposedly, the SOPH runs north/south and is not afraid to put his head down and the FR is the speedster. I'm not a local, but was told our JV finished second to FBM and the FR team was either first or second? Any truth to the chatter at the LH game? Thanks...back to your thread about Chief Jeff Joseph leaving the Tribe. I think he wants to stay a few more years at PN-G. JJ, McDaniel, McCrary, Feller, et al. have two or three more years of big runs at PN-G if they want it. 4/5 of the OL returns, 2/3 of the DL returns, the QB is back, and a few other playmakers on both sides will be back. It's a good time to be a PN-G fan (says Captain Obvious). Go Indians. Peace.

  35. There are a lot more open enrollment ISDs than you think that are out there as well....Dallas ISD is far from unique in that regard I do believe TX should consider doing like Louisiana and creating classifications and seperating out open enrollment ISD's vs non-open enrollment ISD's

  36. I just think from the evidence shown so far, they desperately need to have a home playoff game. I don't like their chances on the road to any of the teams that will be hosting in the NFC.

    PNG Coaching Change?

That will not happen. Anyway PNG will be set at RB for the next three years. #15 and the freshman will handle the load next season.

  38. Always interested in how people define the "spread". If you look at modern "spread offenses" it's just a "spread version of triple option.

  44. I know coaches on that staff personally & from what I’ve been told the talent has drastically declined over the years. So that explains the downfall. Secondly coaching does indeed matter just not over talent

  47. Some of those could have similar "home grown" talent from time to time. Carthage is now aided by a never-ending supply of "other town's best players" that move in on a yearly basis and continually elevate them above the others.

  49. @Coach_Izzy How does Jim and Joe explain my Mustang downfall? DCTF had us ranked #2 in the state based on the returning players. Even after our HOF coach retired and handed the keys to an assistant. Did CT take the kids with him to the pasture? Or did the new coaches not have the same ability to produce champions? Or the wisdom to call plays instead of timeouts and delay of game penalties? (This isn't about coach bashing. Just a really good example) I know there's always an exception to the rule. But I've seen rookie coaches win the championship the past 2 seasons. And maybe further back if I go look. This is about admitting there is a correlation to Jim and Joe being coached up by someone who is an elite coach. Not just a good or great coach. MY Levels of Coaching BAD 0-10 but everyone plays AVERAGE 5-6 1st round exit GOOD 7-5 makes playoffs most years GREAT 10-3 battles for a DC and makes playoffs every year ELITE 13-1 expects to play in the region final every year, with a chance to play for the championship Now another thing I'd like to add to the conversation. All these different things that have been said about what makes a coach great... Leading and molding young men, making sure they stay in class and school, all the things that coaches do for their students off the field. That's the basic job description that we expect for every one of them. All coaches at all schools should be held to that minimum standard. But like @Reagan has said... we hire them with the expectation to win on top of that. Did anyone listen to any of the post game interviews? Nobody thanked the superintendents. All glory given to God.
