  1. Alright, I think that's enough. Rule 15 of the SETXSports rules prohibits the posting of unsubstantiated rumors. The original subject of this thread is completely unsubstantiated and, based on my own research, verifiably false. The speculation about the future of Nederland's runningback is also unsubstantiated. This thread will be locked. I look forward to what Jeff Joseph will do with the Port Neches-Groves Indians in 2024 and beyond.

  3. More of a combination. Community has just as much to do with it as anything; For instance, PNG's community spirit is what allowed them to spend thousands of dollars to hire Dodge to even go find a great coach. Without the right school board and community, that ain't happening in the first place... And I'm not a PNG guy, but I recognize one of the finest football communities in the nation when I see it.

  4. Field a team with a good coach but the kids are slow, all Freshmen, unintelligent and possibly mentally disadvantaged. How much winning will that coach do? Now I understand that’s a stupid example, but it’s just to serve as an exploded view. You gotta have a combination of coaching, kids & community which includes parents and administration. It takes all 3.

  5. I really think there is a lot of jealousy here. Are dudes mad they don't have college degrees, but coaches do? I'm sure a lot of them make more money than high school coaches, but I'm certain that many also do not. I'm just trying to figure it out.

  6. I can't even get him to explain to me why Bill Belichick is sub .500 without Tom Brady.. or hasn't won a playoff game since Brady left NE. Or why some is his elite coaches (by his definition) didn't win another state title after reaching elite status (according to his definition). So.. again. You're wasting your time. Might as well just let him believe that any coach could go to any team and win it all eventually. Wait.. I think 7 years is his timeframe.

  7. I don’t know that SOC makes it back next year. That region is stacked and they will be adding Anna (4A D1 State Champ) who is moving up. I like PNGs odds though. All that said it is very hard to win 5 straight against top talent each week, especially when you go into each game with a bullseye on your back like PNG will next year.

  15. Louisiana does a Power ranking and makes the playoff bracket based on that with no geographic considerations. Imagine all the bickering and arguing over seeding. Also that 1st round matchup between Port Arthur and El Paso would be fun…. 😀

  28. When I make those statements, they're about you bro... and the others who clearly do not. They're not about the people who actually understand it takes more than just a good coach to win. Culture & talent are the 2 most important factors. Coaches can develop culture, but it takes a village. Don't forget - high school football coaches are TEACHERS first. They are the ones spending every day with TEENAGERS and trying to get the best out of them. If you've never spent time as a TEACHER and a COACH, then you will NEVER really and fully understand the many nuances and dynamics of high school athletics.

I agree that there are way too many idiots that make the Cowboys fanbase look bad, but I think pretty much all of us on this board are decently realistic and level-headed. I'm generally pessimistic about the Cowboys, so I honestly don't think they'll be able to put together a 4 game stretch in the playoffs where Big Mike coaches well enough and Dak plays well enough to win a Super Bowl. BTW, using your logic, I think we can label every team in the league as a "fraud" if we're comparing them to a healthy 49ers team.

  30. Let PNG look as bad as Nederland look and see what that culture looks likes. Good coaching brings about good culture. If Nederland had Joseph and PNG had Nederland’s coach we’d be talking about how bad the PNG culture is.

  35. My post was not meant to go that deep, but the info is welcomed. I am sure Peveto & Luttrull are in the mix also if they applied. Theriot has a wealth of defensive knowledge learning from Larry Neuman, Delbert Spell & Randy Theriot. Speaking of Huckaby, he was my 7th & 8th grade football coach back in the mid 80's very intense, serious & positive dude.

  36. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, sir, and if that’s how you feel then that’s your right. I’m not trying to be argumentative with you for sure so please don’t read anything I’m posting here as an attempt to show you up at all. However there are a few facts that would surround that. You are speaking of Chris Theriot. I believe they passed on him years ago when he was Ofield’s defensive coordinator under head coach Blake Morrison. When Morrison left, I think that’s when they brought in Huckaby or something like that. If Theriot is now the defensive coordinator at Nederland , I wouldn’t think that would be what Orangefield needs to continue with success. I believe Nederland’s defense was quite poor this year and they haven’t been the Mecca for success in football in a few years. In fact I don’t think any Nederland coach would have high stock now as a potential AD/HFB candidate. Being from Orangefield cannot be the only qualification…or maybe it will be..hopefully not. If it’s just about being a former player at Orangefield , why not Derek Peveto from Orangefield who is currently at Vidor coaching. He was a much better athlete than Theriot was and much better than Peevey. Again just basing this off the previous comment you stated about Theriot was a good player from Orangefield. That’s probably debatable in football. Depends on who you ask. I’m sure his coaching friends on here will quickly come to his defense on that, and that’s fine as well. It would appear to me that Theriot has enough on his plate trying to improve his defense. Probably not the best time to give him the key to the city and full command of Orangefield. Having “some” knowledge of Orangefield , although not an abundant knowledge or as much as others on here, I do believe they will indeed hire someone from Orangefield. It’s just kind of there way on the overall scale. Yes, Huckaby was an outsider. Smalley was from BC, that was close enough so I would think overall they will go with someone the superintendent knows and doesn’t feel challenged by. When you know someone, it tends to make people in charge feel more comfortable. Not the best tactic to take when hiring a coach , but the facts are that pretty much anyone you hire for that job is guaranteed a playoff spot for the next two years as I hear they are staying in that small district. Again, 4 teams go. They will once again be the largest school in that district, and they will make the playoffs. They have hardworking athletes out there who want to be successful. Hopefully Orangefield will bring in the best candidate and not someone a particular school board member went to school with as the only reason. There are some good assistant coaches out there in this area. One that comes to mind is a guy like Chad Lutcherall at PNG. (Probably missed the spelling on his name). Will see how it plays out.

  37. The future looks bright at PNG, but I tell you we’re going to feel the loss of Nyugen and Shea Adams - Few RBs in PNG history have had the vision, timing, and balance of Nyugen. And there might may not have ever been a do-it-all player as clutch across so many games as Adams in PNG history. These two took us to two state championships and one trophy, and they did it by repeatedly showing up in huge moments when inches mattered. There’s a lot more we’ll miss - #28 (I forget his name, but he’s been huge on offense and defense) is one. Next man up. 2024 is going to be huge for PNG. But, we’ll definitely miss those guys.

    2023 Dallas Cowboys

I find it hilarious that the negative people haven’t pounced on the Patriots when Brady was there. Talk about a pansy division. They were guaranteed a playoff spot every year. Of course Brady was the best, but no one ever questioned who they had beaten. 49ers lost to the Browns and Vikings on the road in consecutive weeks and then to the Bengals at home. The Browns didn’t have a winning record when they beat them. Minnesota was 2-4 when they beat them. The Bengals were 3-3 when they beat them. Remember, these are teams with losing records that beat the 49ers in consecutive weeks…..yet we sing their praises and pounce on the Cowboys. What a joke. Come at me with a little more substance than hatred.

  40. There are a lot more open enrollment ISDs than you think that are out there as well....Dallas ISD is far from unique in that regard I do believe TX should consider doing like Louisiana and creating classifications and seperating out open enrollment ISD's vs non-open enrollment ISD's

  46. Did anyone else see SOC defenders all wear purple gloves so they can blend in with our jerseys so they could get away with holding. Especially #2 with the purple sleeves. They had light blue gloves last week against Emerson. But we're being called cheaters and have an asterisk because the refs gave us the title

  47. SMH I really like this BC team. I predict them to make the playoffs. Coach Robertson is doing a great job there. But if we are being honest, not sure any Silsbee team is overly proud of beating Bridge City in basketball. Beating BC by 30 is a common thing for Silsbee basketball.
