  1. Orangefield doesn't need to hire anyone to upgrade the facilities. That what the admin (supt) and school board do, not the AD. They just passed a bond to upgrade schools. Now they need one for athletics. Doubt it would pass though. I hope OF remembers they are hiring an AD, not just a football coach. The person they hire has to develop all programs , especially the jr high. IMO, a elite coach develops a winning attitude/program within the whole school system. You may have some great athletes walking the halls, but they may not want to be a part of what's offered if it's a joke/no discipline/low expectations/low community engagement. Make kids excited about your school in elementary. Carthage football players "adopt" a younger kid in the community during the season. You can bet that those little kids want to be big football players for their school one day. Hire jr high coaches who care about developing players and keeping kids in the program. Too many jr high coaches care about the record of the 7th grade B team instead of making sure kids want to stay in the program. Friday nights at PNG are special, but I have been to games at big schools with nice facilities and the atmosphere is dead so it's not just facilities. The community creates the atmosphere they want, to an extent.
  2. Came here to say this. He's a great kid. Wish I could have seen him play more this year.
  3. We left the field about 30 minutes ago. They didn't want to land a helicopter near so many people at the field so I heard the ambulance was taking him to the airport and helicopter is picking him up there and going to Houston. It looked like they were taking every precaution you would for a head and neck injury. Such a terrible situation. He is a talented player and an outstanding young man. Lots of prayers going up for #3.
  4. I lost track of how many unsportsmanlike calls Silsbee had tonight. I wish the camera would have been going when the last unsportsmanlike call was made on Silsbee when the BC player was hurt. The Silsbee players started clapping and taunting the home crowd, all while the injured player was lying on the ground and the BC crowd was praying. It was disgusting.
  5. I'm at the game and it is dead silence. Silsbee players hit a kid about 5 yards out of bounds and he hit the track hard. I'm hearing that they are waiting on life flight or ambulance. The Silsbee players clapping and taunting while the kid was being treated was classless. They refused to take a knee until about 10 minutes after the injury. The whole game was like that too. Fights, taunting, late hits, classless gestures from Silsbee the whole game.
  6. Losing 6 is bad enough for a small school, but they were about to lose several more (couple of my buds included). They were given some hope for change before they pulled the trigger. McGuire had a boy who was a sophomore or junior last year and a senior daughter. I just looked at the article someone posted above about the Denver City move. Principal huh. Was he ever a principal before? I guess those west Texas ties run deep. Wonder if their football coach is about to retire or something?
  7. If they don't abide by the PAPF policy, we would have kids jumping to the next school anytime their parents get mad at a coach, they don't get the playing time or position they want, or they want to be at a stronger program. There isn't a transfer portal in high school and for good reason. It's not usually a problem in small town USA but in the city when a different school is one block over, it's a huge issue. Now if a parent truly moves into the district, then by all means, let the kid play. We won't talk about those schools who hire mom or dad just so junior can come play. It happens.
  8. Amen! As I have said in previous comments, I have friends who coach in BC and they had said the same thing. They were hamstringed for 2 years with poor leadership and not allowed to discipline players or demand accountability. Kids could get multiple penalties in a game or not show up to practice but never have a consequence. I saw the Vidor scrimmage and the team is small (it's BC and for some reason they rarely have big kids) but their respectfulness and discipline was an obvious change. Anytime a BC player tried to step out of line, CL or another coach handled it Asap. The change in leadership this year has been a positive change all around. And hopefully the parents who were up in arms about the change can see the difference by now. Nobody stormed the school board meeting as far as I know and the summer numbers were better than last year. BC was about to lose a large number of good coaches who couldn't stand another year of dysfunction. God bless whoever got the snow cone coach now.
  9. I don't know the guy, but unless he has family or a reason to be in the area, he's probably looking for a AD HC job to use as a step to the next place. Looks like he has never run the whole show and I bet he won't be around for long. Good luck to him and kudos to them for finding a guy at this late hour.
  10. I'm guessing to protest the AD being let go.
  11. My friend said summer numbers are higher than they have been the past few years, but a handful of the former varsity players didn't show up, but that's not unusual for them. Somebody's mom was stirring up sheet on Facebook and telling the kids to not show up for workouts to protest.
  12. I think you're right. They could open the job up but who are they going to get at this late hour? Football starts in the summer and I doubt they have time to wade through weeks of interviews while the kids and coaches are spinning their wheels wondering what's going on. They went with a guy as interim HC who has varsity football coaching experience, has the respect of the other coaches and kids, and I guarantee will run a tighter ship than what we have seen in the past. He will get them through until the timing is right for a new HC. I do wonder about the new OC? I don't follow sports in LA but friends in BC say he is a good hire and has some HC/AD experience.
  13. I have been reading this thread for a few days as an guest and alot of the comments got things right. Not sure of their sources but I have ties to people who work with the coach. I have been told by people who work there that he didn't leave "a couple times" like the article says. He was gone for hours at a time multiple days and nobody could find him. At least 2 weeks as far as they could count. Alot of good people were stuck picking up the slack while he was out slinging snow. I work at a plant and I know he was there at least 6 days in the middle of the school day. One source says the ice machine near the coach's office was strangely low on ice during those days. Don't know many places where you can work but you can leave your job while still getting paid and go do a side hustle for large portions of the work day. No problem with teachers and coaches having a side gig, Lord knows they don't get paid much anyways. But we want teachers to be accountable, so coaches and especially their leader should be held accountable too. Just my two cents, but if this was about wins and losses I think they would have made a decision earlier. Whoever does take the job will have a good group of assistants. Hope he lets them stay on.
  14. Maybe they don't want to be out numbered by conservatives in those small towns. Could be jobs too.
  15. Friends up there say there's no way they eliminate the program. It may limp along until they find someone to build it back up. Heck maybe the BC coach will take the job.
