  1. I think the YMBL had a better field than the LaGrange La. tourney United played in last week. I get what you are saying. I think United "could" play a more tougher schedule and be just fine. But playing a couple of local teams, including Silsbee, doesn't hurt their program. As long as Green and Sigler are coaching those two teams, they will always play each other. That's a fact.

    A Tale of Two Cities

Just a thought here and I understand there might be some controversy around this. I think Crosby's implosion and PNG's ascension should teach us a couple very important lessons. 1) We overvalue the effect of athletes (bo's and joes) on the success of a program and undervalue the effect of coaching. 2) Great coaches will get the enrollment involved and working. At the end of the day the single most important thing for late playoff success is depth and coaching. Yes losing a great QB/RB/WR/LB can end a season early but if you don't have depth at all the "not superstar" positions and if the backups aren't just as willing, able and wanting to play as the starters you cannot have success at the highest levels. I think this is true because of a couple of reasons, Winner win. If you are successful and win others want to be a part of that, from that 6'8 300 lbs kid that's never touched a football to that 5'6 kid who will run through a wall to get his chance. They all are important and they all need to feel like part of the team. If you win then no one cares about being the backup. If you win people will be happy to just be on the team. If you win you can have 65 athletes on Varsity every single year. Even a team without elite athletics' talent can execute plays at a high level if they are well coached. Practice times, culture of work, and accountability set the standards for developing 14 year old's into athletic 17 years old's. That being said great coaches can overcome program deficiencies that previously existed. Crosby and PNG prove this. PNG has no more talent now than it has for the last decade. Crosby has no less talent than it has for the last decade. It's about how that talent is coached, brought through the system, and executes daily. My ramblings.

  4. Playing the #1 ranked 6A team to 10 points will help prepare the Tigers for that tough district play.

  5. I know he’s not the star of that team but I really really like watching #15 play for the tigers I believe his name is Botley man that kid plays with high energy and is the driving force for that team

  6. I’m not going to question the man that’s led BU to the mountain top. Whatever his method is, keep on keeping on!

  7. Botley is gonna be the reason silsbee ends in SA ! I like his game ! You NEED players like that !

  8. I'm only here until my flight leaves for St. Lucia tomorrow. As pitiful as this season was I figured I might as well spend a week taking it out on some Wahoo and hitting some golf balls in the ocean. My old lady is from Oak Cliff and her nephew plays for Duncanville so I've been getting the treatment at the house all bleeping year, smh.

  10. Excellent points. Been hearing similar logic on a weekly basis. It has not helped any opponent so far. Gilmer has been ran off the field in multiple games and the defense is giving up 37 points per game in the playoffs. Gilmer is going to face Bellville on Friday just like the rest of the teams who “played a tougher schedule”.

  17. You just asked if Silsbee had won, and I answered. Like I said, it doesn't hurt their program to play Silsbee every year. They will continue to play each other. Both schools enjoy the game. I also agree that BU could schedule a little harder. But I don't know the ends and outs of the school finance in BISD and what parameters they have in place for their sports teams.

  18. My post wasn't meant as a sleight on any of the current players. I've been very impressed with what I've seen so far. But I do think Whitmire coaching is a very big advantage for them (and sounds like you agree). I've just seen him win a ton of games over the years when he had the worst of it, talent-wise. Including a few against the Bobcats, unfortunately.

  19. Carthage was not the juggernaut they have been. In reality they probably should have lost to PG. But luckily for us, we matched up way better with Carthage than we did PG.

  20. I will post them after the holiday tournaments. Need to see a few more teams in person. Have seen most already. Going to catch Splendora at Tarkington tonight.

    TABC District Predictions

I predict that the Kountze will have the same players at the end of the season, as they do tonight when they open up district with Hardin. Nobody here is concerned with the mess that some try to stir up. I think we have done enough singling out of kids as well. Send the letter, have somebody else send a letter, sign it with a cool nickname, but let's get back on topic.

I feel we miss some opportunities for the 1 and 1. Kids can make or miss the first and helps with strategy near the end of game. No change was needed.

  26. Silsbee is a top basketball program in the state of Texas and always will be. They have down yeaars, but they are always competing at a high level. Playing a kid like Jared Harris will help them be prepared for those type of kids they will face.

  29. Some haven't forgotten the obvious: BU head coach Green is from Silsbee. He knows that level of basketball because he played at that level. Silsbee coach Sigler was his coach, and his mentor. They are probably good friends. Who wants to be riding in a bus for long stretches of time and miles to play a so called more worthy opponent on a cold Tuesday evening, when you can get a good run from a team 20 miles away. Arm chair keyboard warrior 'coaches' are good at cashing checks in their minds.

  30. Playing that 5a and 6a helped Silsbee win state back in 2017-2018 heck Silsbee played College Park and The Woodlands home and away and the beat the Woodlands Silsbee also lost to SA Wagner by 2 points Wagner was ranked in the nation that year.

  31. If the BU vs Silsbee Games are standing room crowds let them play, it’s good for recruitment for both teams in The Beaumont Area.

  32. Why is it that the Dallas area schools that are highly ranked in Texas, regardless of classification in any giving year are playing Highly Ranked Teams. Duncanville & Faith Family both played and loss to Montverde Academy this year and have played them in previous years. Duncanville is down this year with there recruitment and Faith Family is who they are. I have not seen too many Houston area schools playing outside of their comfort zone. I don’t see any harm with playing those Prep or Academy Schools, playing those schools will or should prepare them for the next level. Faith Family plays a very competitive schedule outside of Texas, to be the best you have to beat / play the best. Faith Family schedule prepares them for San Antonio, everyone else is playing for 2nd place

  33. Easy solution... Write an email to Ron Jackson and David Green. Tell them BU should only play other 6A & 5A teams that can stay within 10 points of them. Glad we got to play each other and hope to see you in San Antonio.

  35. I agree to a point. PNG also has a history, culture, and quite a bit of talent. PNG was no stranger to the 3rd and 4th round, they just needed to learn to play defense. They went and found their answer. OF has a long ways to go to be playing in Arlington. They should be happy with the leader they’ve had. Hiring a man to come in and take them from the 1st round, to the 3rd or 4th round would take a miracle. Not that it shouldn’t be the goal, just don’t let the goal be the expectation.

  42. Crosby is going to sing more kids in the next two years(this year and next year) than anybody currently in the district besides PAM. Teams like Baytown Lee don't beat Crosby because they're more talented. It's easy to point to talent when the system and playcalling doesn't fit the personnel. BH doesn't have near the talent that PAM does and still beat them, PNG doesn't have near the talent FBM does and still beat them. People said Duncanville was finished before Samples got there and turned them into a contender after going 3-7 his first year there, same caliber kids they've always had with a 4k+ enrollment. We've had multiple D1 kids before and lost in the 2nd round, we've signed 0 D1 kids and made it to the state finals. Guy on the sideline matters a lot, even moreso when the administration is so poorly run which is exactly why I predicted Willis to have a similar record to the one he did at Crosby even though he had a team with multiple kids that ended up playing in the SEC championship last Saturday.
