  3. After a few years into his tenure at Dayton very very seldom did Stewart get blown out ! Maybe a loss against LK Travis for the region final, pre-district he scheduled big schools like Fort Bend Elkins and Eisenhower and win most times. Several district and regional championships, State final appearance- records that any Dayton coaches since cant even begin to scratch. He used to hold defense coaching clinics where coaches all over the state would attend. He was and an outsider with no buddy or political ties to the local click his only goal was to Win!!!

  5. Players + Coaching + Competition level = Success Any 2 of the 3 can lead to a great year. Maybe not a state championship year, but good year. Just having 1 of the 3 isn't enough. It takes good players.. and it takes preparation/strategy. But that wouldn't be enough in a juggernaut district/region/classification. It happens every two years... Same relative coaching staff, a lot of the same players, but reclassification may turn zeros into heroes or vice versa. Just like I've seen good coaches have mediocre years because of lost talent or even graduation. Or injuries... And not that great of coaches can have pretty good years if they have a lot of talent or are in a weaker level of competition. It's crazy to think that there aren't a lot of variables. But I will never be convinced that all it takes is great coaching. MOST coaches are practicing stuff that is designed to be successful. And MOST coaches are taking stuff from coaches/teams that are successful.

  7. Congrats to the Rangers. The better team won. I can’t figure out what home field advantage is all about. Neither team won at home. Still an Astros fan. That will never change. Will pull for the Texas team to win it all. Best state in the country.

  8. lol, you were hoping to do that, can't blame you. It would have been a mistake to count either team out, but even though I'm an Astros fan, the team with the best chance at winning the WS moved on. Astros have a rally killing dead spot in the lineup that needs to be fixed, the Rangers don't.

  9. Who teaches the players how to block, how to defend the pass, what they are supposed to do in different situations, who inspires them? Oh , that’s right they’re born with that knowledge.

  13. What a terrible night. Stros lose and I lost $20 to my daughter on 49er/Viking game. She took the Vikings but I had to give her 7 points. Looks like that won't matter. Good luck Rangers in the World Series.

  17. It's certainly a mixture. Great players can only overcome so much poor coaching, but in the same breadth, great coaching can only elevate marginal players so far. The players are the most important part, because you'll never win without them, but the coaches will play an important role.

  18. This, you have to have talent, its not strictly Xs and Os. I have seen coaches destroy talent by running the wrong system. IE had spread personnel but brought in the triple option because that's what he likes. A good coach looks at what he has, uses the best system to utilize that talent and then it comes down to how does he relate to them, how does he motivate them, how does he adjust when they study your film and take away what you want to do. A lot of the deeper rounds of playoffs comes down to who can adjust the best when your game plan gets thrown out the window.

  20. Orangefield did lose a good bit.Yeah Kountze didn’t make the playoffs… The team was basically all sophomores but they did play a seeding game with Buna for 4th which they did lose.. they also beat East Chambers once last year as well so it’s not like they were just a bad team. I stand by my prediction that they will be a favorite to win district. After the first few weeks of the season I think others will be on board as well

    Snapshot Day

You need to look at Newton’s results, they speak for themselves. We have no chose to who we play in district. Barbay said he did not want to schedule a team unless he thought they had a chance to beat us. He said playing a real bad team serves only to get one of your kids hurt. That is why we have played Silsbee, Gilmer, WOS, Carthage, Jasper, etc.. It prepares us for the playoffs.

  23. one of the best RB's to come through Dayton in years and not only the Brenham game but most big games like PNG he rode the bench a lot--- inexplicable . The only reason I can think of they didn't want him showing up the QB one of the coaches relatives. Both the QB &RB received all district honors bust I guess its more important to pad stats for a scholarship rather than win games.

  28. Yes he is. He is my little cousin by his mom. His dad Derek Lagway was a great Willis Wildkat. He went on to play at Baylor University in 1994. They are great family always giving back to the community

People seem to forget that the guy pitching for Arlington tonight got suspended for 10 games this season for being a cheater. Its easy to overlook things when it doesn't fit your narrative.

  39. I’ve watched a couple of bronco games. One that stands out is the Brenham game last year. Light rain. Wind blowing like crazy. Cold as heck. Dayton comes out passing like there’s no tomorrow. Meanwhile one of the best if not THE best running back touches the ball less than ten times. Most being in the final few minutes of the game. It made no sense.

  43. Great coaching recognizes the talent their players may or may not have then adjust their system around those players to put them in the best position to win. One example is BISD having lots of talent but without a proper coach the y can't produce wins. Another is Crosby being consistent winners until their coaches left and they hit rock bottom. One Crosby coach goes to Chapel Hill and makes them winners instantly. There is too many examples of this to list

  44. In some of the blowouts, they put him at RB. Never played football, but he’s scored several TD’s. Just neat to see

  45. I think it's a lot closer to 50-50 than most people from schools with a lot of talent believe. Quite often those athletes are a product of a preparation in a system that goes back 6 or more years. When you start naming great athletes that came from your program, ask yourself "how successful would they have been if they'd played for a crappy program?" I use WOS as an example. The Mustang faithful always go back to it being the athletes, not coaching that made them great. All they need to do is hire one of CT's old assistants and there WILL be a return to glory, right? How many WOS kids are in the NFL right now? How many are playing D1 ball? Being a part of that program helped to make good athletes have great high school careers. But it's a mixture... the best coaching in the world won't help a bunch of unathletic kids get to the State Championship.... but top notch coaching can help a bunch of good players have a GREAT season/career.

  46. Actually if PNG vs Nederland played at Lamar PNG would lose numbers on the home side in the seats. Not including grass seating. Lamar holds 8000 on the home and PNG holds 8500 on he home side.

  47. Where did I bash Langston as a person? I'm literally critiquing the job he has done as the Head Football coach at West Brook. On what planet is going 6-22 with two games left in your third year considered doing a good job? According to his job performance, he sucks! And, that WB team that went to state was underdogs in the regional finals, the state semifinals, and the state championship game, so thanks for proving my point about the lack of coaching at West Brook now!
    1 point
  48. That must not apply to soccer. Because the last few coaches there have all coached their players in club soccer at Dynamo and now Albion. Hmmmm???

  49. Sounds like you're bitter about losing either games or kids to Kelly. LMAO... If my son showed the ability to be good at a sport and had the ability to play at the next level, there's no way in hell I'm letting him stay and play for a coach that sucks at his job. What type of scouts are showing up to see a team that loses a football game 71-0?
    1 point
  50. West Brook had no problem competing in the toughest district in the state before he got there. Hell they made it to the championship game out of that same district. Parents are pulling their kids because of the product he puts out on the field and his inability to even have those kids prepared to play. What does it benefit him and the kids still at WB to try and hold on to kids that didn't want to be there?
