If that community is voicing an opinion on a coaching choice based on race, then “no.” There’s no difference in a school refusing to hire a coach because he’s black than a school hiring a coach because he’s black. Regardless of whether or not you believe there’s a difference. A lot of people have been brainwashed into believing that this new version of racism is somehow “better” than the old one. It’s not. There’s no difference between saying “I want a coach that reflects the community” and saying “those (fill in the blanks) need to stay over there with their own kind.”2 points -

Lol, it's ingrained in you deep huh? Don't worry, I'm sure God has a segregated place in heaven that's up to your suiting. Hopefully you get to check it out sooner than later? On a serious note, the brother-in-law hire is probably the best route for WOS. I highly doubt they have the lure/money to pull MLK Day coaches like Jahmal Fenner, James Williams or Jason Todd away from their programs.2 points -

Hire the guy with the best resume, that is the most proven winner. Period. Regardless of race. If that coach happens to be black, then congrats to those in the community that feels that race should be the sole deciding factor in the process. If it’s Toby, congrats to those that want a home grown Coach that bleeds blue like they do. If there is a better coach out there that has a better track record of winning games and building programs, then you hire them, regardless of race.1 point

Everywhere that a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line is going to be dangerous, especially with the ease of access to weapons. Baytown has some good neighborhoods to live in but they also had 5 murders in December alone. Even when your community is relatively safe like Crosby you can still end up with a situation like the three bodies they found yesterday. Galveston has some rough areas but I'd much rather be caught there than Texas City, La Marque, Hitchcock or parts of Dickinson.1 point -

Tiger scoring: Harris - 21 Miller - 17 Jackson - 16 Bottley - 15 Dean - 7 Cartwright - 7 Harper - 4 Jones - 3 Elam - 2 After an ice cold first half, Silsbee ended up with ten 3 pointers. Lost the dunk count 1 - 2. Was a close game for just a little bit, but #22 for LCM can't do it all for four quarters.1 point

Nah, been here over 10 years now. I’m well abreast of your previous comments on the football and political forums which is why I know although your comment was sarcastic the place it came from wasn’t. I remember the same thing being said about Desoto’s administration/community when they wanted Peterson out to bring back Mathis. Are they really “woke”, as you repeated from Fox, or are times different than they were 20 years ago and more of the community feels like they should have a voice? Not that one way or the other is right but the overwhelming majority of minority schools also have minority coaches. Maybe those petitioners want a coach who more closely identifies with a larger amount of the kids he’s coaching? You’re saying the quiet part out loud with the “once proud program” comment. If I was a Bridge City fan the last thing I would be proud about is the football program, yet you comment on a program that would smoke y’all with their jv🙄1 point -

A lot of people like to point to demographic shifts as the reason for the slides. The bigger reason is because there's just not anymore money down there, look at the facilities for instance. I looked up the numbers on Ball and 76.4% of their students are classified as "economically disadvantaged", what type of staff can you afford/build/retain with numbers like that? Everybody capable has been moving to north Galveston County to the Dickinson and League City/Clear Lake areas.1 point -
Why do our brains work so differently? As I’ve posted before, my brain can’t comprehend a universe with no end, and even if there was an end, what’s on the other side of “the end”? I used to go to the horse races with a friend I worked with. He could remember races from 3 weeks back. I couldn’t remember the last race. I used to sing a lot (off key) and he ask me how I could remember the words to so many songs. Others can speak many languages. Only class I failed at school was French. My Spainish is limited to uno, dos, tres, fajitas and margaritas. I was a whiz at math, and when I say math, I mean numbers. When I took Algebra and they had letters in lieu of numbers, boom, my mind went into lock mode. Each of us seem to have some strengths and many weaknesses in our brain. Some are poets (my poetry limited to ‘a man from Nantucket’), other engineers, astronomers, musically inclined. For a society, it’s a good thing. Be weird if we were all poets, and not much would get done. Our brain is a mystery to me.1 point

HD Sophomore Kaylei Armstrong drops 59pts on Sabine Pass!
writeman reacted to Corona_with_Lime for a topic
Just gotta give a shout-out to the Hull-Daisetta lady Bobcats on a big win last night over Sabine Pass 73-20. HD sophomore Kaylei Armstrong scored 59 points leading the Lady Cats to the district win. I know most of these young ladies (and guys) from some of the smaller schools in the area tend to get overlooked but she definitely needs to be on the radar for regional recognition and all-star teams. She was the district MVP last year as a freshman and she is definitely a baller!!1 point -
