Actually, Newton's current run is better than that. They have taken 3 of the last 4 from the Mustangs (they won the 2014 game as well). AND NOW, you know why I didn't West Orange-Stark when answering the question and just stated Class 4A Division II State Champs to show that it takes a pretty good team to do what one person, who has happened to be documented as wrong here 3 times in the last 2 days (at least), cavalierly believes will happen Friday night. My fondest hope is that next week there is a WO-S/Newton thread because that would indicate progress on a number of levels. However, let's wait until then.

Well, let's keep in mind that not all of the cancellations were due to COVID. Over the first 3 weeks, there were 39 scheduled games under the SETX umbrella that were canceled or declared no contest. 30 of those were due to shutting down in preparation of Laura, damage from Laura or in one case, a weather induced no contest. 9 so far have been canceled due to covid. 1 game was canceled in Week 1 due to covid 5 games were canceled in Week 2 due to covid 3 games were canceled in Week 3 due to covid

All I can tell you is that our JV squad is fast based on what I saw in the scrimmage that was webcast a few weeks ago. I don't know anything about your Hornets, but hopefully they'll play well and it will be a good game.

PNG offense will see just how good they are against that PAM defense... will be a great early test for both squads.

Maybe... I really believe they have some talented skill players. Again, it all hinges on can they stay healthy?. H-D may be considered a bigger 2 A D 2 school but the truth is, their team is about like a 1A school. Meaning, they barely dress out 20 kids if their lucky. When I saw that both Evadale and Dewyville lost to opponents that they most likely should have won against, I thought HD may have a chance to make some noise in their district this season .

They were pretty cocky, even when they were terrible. We went down there in '89 with a pretty good group and beat them 82-0 and they were still jawing all night long.

Cleveland was the first stadium that I know of that had metal detectors at the gates. At least it was the first one that I ever entered that had them.

Hardin's varsity is playing Jasper's JV so that fills Hardin's need for a varsity game for this week.

Last Year: Kam goes down at the half for EC HF gets the score to 19-18 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, then for some reason goes for 2 and bobbles the snap. Score stays 19-18. With 5:40 left in the game Marcus Morris puts the team on his back and takes the Longhorns 85 yards in 9 plays running for 75yds on his own, Saurage 10 yd gain, and completing 10 yd pass to Viator. Morris Scores the go ahead TD with 1:43 left in the game and Morris gets the 2pt conversion. Score 26-19. The Bucs get the kickoff at their own 42yd line and drive to the 27 of HF, go for it on 4th and 10 and throw an interception with seconds left. It was a great game! Morris is Gone, Saurage is Gone for HF, Perrault, Caesar, Offensive line are back for EC EC WINS this game on the back of the Offensive line and Earnest Caesar. What about all the people who had it with mild symptoms an kept living their daily lives that didn’t get lumped in with the total number of cases? That would affect the numbers drastically. But more important to me is the death to population numbers. That speaks volumes. But let’s be honest, you have to go deeper with the demographics statistics. If I’m not over 55, no real underlying conditions, US citizen living in Southeast Texas...now tell me what my chances are. I got about the same chances of dying from sickle cell anemia or ovarian cancer. It just isn’t in the numbers. If I was 65 or had a respiratory malady, weighed 500 lbs (no comments please) or was extremely diabetic then I would have to shelter myself. Look. Diabetics have to take insulin, lower sugar from their diet, exercise and monitor their blood sugar. If they don’t, their condition can get worse. But that doesn’t mean the whole world has to do that! I know, diabetes is not necessarily infectious (although it is passed through heredity and/or family lifestyle), but the point I’m making is that we have to be responsible for ourselves. I haven’t heard anyone contemplating closing down McDonalds because the food is unhealthy. We are given a choice to eat it or not. If you’re sick, fat, have respiratory issues, lock YOURSELF down and wear a mask if you go outside. Otherwise, live your life.

I stated HF has a good team. I didn’t call it an upset because I felt EC was supposed to blow them out. I called it an upset because I feel EC would have probably found a way to win had they not been caught slipping due to the fact that HF was better than they normally are. This year EC returns more and have more motivation so yea it could get ugly if HF doesn’t come prepared to play.

I have no idea what Newton brings to the table. Win or lose, if it is close I'll be happy for now.

But the question was asked "when was the last time a Newton team lost by 3 TD's or more?" It was simply answered. Just happened to be answered by a fan of the team who beat Newton.

I appreciate y’all’s intelligence, but I don’t believe I ever referenced the mortality rate in my reply. I was speaking to the severity of the China Virus. My point is that the mortality rate is not near as important as the effects of the virus on the population as a whole. For instance, if 5 people got a raging case of syphillis and 1 of them died from it then it’s true, the mortality rate would be 20%. But if there is a population of 1000 then the death rate for that population is .1%. The complete effects on the entire population have to be considered when trying to convey the threat of the China Virus. We all have to live with the lockdowns, the screwed up economy, the host of other ill effects, so we ALL have to be considered when talking about the issue of mortality and sickness.

Its been a minute, lol. We really don’t even know what we’ve got yet. We have our RB Gatson that has several d1 offers, Williams is a strong QB and I’m really not sure about the others. Between Covid and the hurricane we haven’t caught a break. Jasper may beat us but even an average Newton football team doesn’t get run all over. 🙃

This is a great week for Kirbyville to cancel. Sorry, that was petty. Anyways, I think Jasper wins in a close one. Newton has a lot of key sophomores in key positions that will end up being very good, but they do not have a varsity game under their belt. Newton will get better every week, sweep their district and be a top 3A team in the state once again. They need time to find their identity, which will come. I just don't think Newton will be polished enough or experienced enough to beat a good Jasper Bulldogs team their first game of the season. Bulldogs in a close one, but I am rooting for my purple Eagles.
