  1. Some pretty massive rationalizations going on in this thread. One behavior doesn't excuse another. Sorry.

For a few years the program has underperformed to expectations H Hickman appeared to have fallen short H Hickman has now earned the respect of even most doubters Maybe a new era has begone? 3. King is 65% Hispanic. Crosby is about 50%. They’re filling up Barrett Station, not the $300k starter homes in Newport. The reason you don’t think King looks like that is because they have 3,600 kids and you don’t see any of them on the field. The closer our overall enrollment climbs to 3,000 the closer we get to the football playing demographic number of about 1,500 that we need to be competitive in 6A-D2. The completion of Sweetgrass Village and Barrett Crossing alone will push Crosby’s enrollment to about 2,800 once you include the new Newport homes. Going to suck for a while but Crosby is in an excellent position to be pretty competitive in 4-5 years.

  4. Schools like SLC, Westlake, Vandergrift, etc. get around the overall enrollment with 1) money and 2) they have Hispanic populations down in the teens. For instance Highland Park’s Hispanic population is only 6.1% so their football playing demographics are very close to 6A competitive levels for Texas. The higher the Hispanic population the more kids you need to be competitive in 6A unless you can mitigate it with money. North Crowley has 3,049 kids but more importantly they have 1,706 black kids to go with solid coaching. That is an unreal amount for a metro school in Texas and similar to Summer Creek’s 1,722 but under Duncaville’s 1,888. With North Shore’s demographics they would suck at football if they didn’t have 4,000+ kids. If you dropped NS’ enrollment to Crosby’s and kept their same demographic makeup they would lose about 620 of their 1,038 black kids and not be near as competitive considering the talent pool where they get 95%+ of their starters would’ve cut in more than half. Desoto has a 5A enrollment but their school is 74% black so their talent pool is actually 1.5X that of North Shore. Very few schools the last 10-15 years have broken these rules. Cedar Hill is a prime example of what I’m talking about though. Stagnant to declining enrollment since their title game appearance in 2020 and are sub-.500 in the five years since. Not that having money or demographics mean everything but they’re hard facts to stray from when 6/8 teams playing for the 5A and 6A titles look exactly the same while the 5A-D1 state finals teams are extremely similar financially. Long story short, with Crosby’s demographics we’re going to need 2,800+ before we can consistently be competitive in 6A outside of the Houston and Pasadena districts.

  7. I saw a video of Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) talking about gun control some years ago. He said their gun laws were stupid. You could still possess a firearm, but the gun frame had to be in one end of the house while the unloaded magazine had to be in the other end. How that can be enforced is beyond me. They had a government ban on certain guns and a buyback program. Obviously, their gun “control” failed miserably at Bondi.

  10. Numbers 4-7 are spot on. There’s no question many things were changed those first two years and the facts show it didn’t turn out for the better. Beginning last year they got back to more of what made Mustang football so successful and the results are speaking for themselves. He and his staff have earned more respect. I just feel very badly for the kids that played those first two seasons. All their young life they dreamed of wearing that silver hat and following in the footsteps of those that played before them and they were caught up in an experiment that went wrong. Many don’t actually place alot of the responsibility on Hickman and his staff for that, it mainly fell on the previous superintendent Ricky Harris. He wanted so badly to show the world that WO-S could be successful doing things differently and with a different style and we all seen how that turned out. Good luck to Hickman and his staff and the Mustangs on Friday. Orange is proud of yall.

  14. That's an understatement. Several teams were down players last night. Heck, two of my four grandsons have it. It's really bad right now. The wife has me on quarantine. Said I had to stay out of schools/gyms till this stuff is out of here. So glad I have NFHS, Texan Live and Hudl to rely on.

  16. I’m not drinking a beer with them. I do expect them to have some principles. In my opinion, THEY owe that to ME, and those who have—or are—serving. Two things can be true at the same time. I can like many policies, while also disliking the lack of principles.

  18. District play gets tipped off this Friday for three of our coverage area districts. 18-5A, 19-4A and 22-3A start district play. Here are some first district game key match ups: 18-5A I would consider all three games as key but the big game is Kingwood Park at Crosby. KP is the defending champ, Crosby was #2 seed last year. I think these are the two best teams again and the likely DC will come from these two. Other two games are Porter at Dayton and Splendora at West Fork. Porter/Dayton will be a battle while West Fork finally has a full roster to contend with for a playoff spot. Pasadena has the district off this Friday. 19-4A Again, all these games are key match ups but the marquee game is Hardin-Jefferson at Hamshire-Fannett. HJ missed the playoffs last year while HF was the runner up in district to Huffman. HJ has looked very solid over the last 6-7 games. They want to prove last year was a fluke. HF has lost several games the last week and are looking to right the ship. Other two games has Livingston at Liberty (Livingston looking really good, will be heavily favored in this one) and Shepherd at Tarkington. Tarkington finished 3rd last season and this will be a key start for them to keep that playoff streak alive. 22-3A IMO, this district is just a two horse race with East Chambers and Orangefield. So I expect blow out wins for those two this Friday. There are two other games that look interesting. Anahuac at Buna and Hardin at Kountze. Buna looks to be the third best team in this district and an early win over Anahuac can get them started to a good district season. Anahuac lost out to Buna last year for that final playoff spot. Kountze is really struggling this year and if they want a shot of making the playoffs, these are the games they have to win. Hardin is looking for some of that football mojo to rub off on the basketball court. IMO, this game is vital to each team. Let me hear your thoughts on any or all these match ups.

  22. There is NO WAY I would bring up Trump's age or mental health if I had remained silent about Biden's decline, but some folks know no shame. Biden's library only has 4 million dollars left over from 2021 inauguration - didn't receive a DIME in 2024 - compared to Trump who has already raised 50 million for his.....What is going to be AMAZING and I can't wait for all the leftist tears, Obama is going to spend an estimated $850 million on his Library (3 times the original estimate), and not a word about overspending from his base or Republicans........YOU KNOW Trump is not going small and will out do Obama's library,,,,,It's gong to have to be big enough to put a Boeing 747 in it....lol Can't wait for the outrage They also don't acknowledge facts....like that Trump has a better approval rating than Obama same time second term.....

  23. Yes, all of the 6A schools with under 3000 enrollments have not been able to compete. The list includes Southlake Carrol, North Crowley, Guyer, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Longview, Willis, Vandergrift, Westlake, to name a few. Hopefully those schools along with "Crosby" can close the enrollment gap and find a way to be competitive in 6A.

  24. Once again HJ proves when they put it together they are a very solid ball club. With district starting Friday, I’ve got to believe they are the favorite to come out on top as DC. Same goes for BC. I know Lamarque and the Houston schools are probably a notch above these two teams but I’ve got to believe there is an outside shot they can upset them?

  35. I think it’s time for a different way to count the kids. The state knows exactly how many kids are in each school because they send “x” amount of dollars per kid, per day to the school districts. So, by knowing how much money is sent to the school districts you would know how many kids they have in attendance.

  37. What a wonderful tribute to a great leader of young men of which I was once one. Great coach and even better person who left an undeniable legacy on the field, at the school and in the hearts of those under his leadership. If that bothers anyone here then I think they might need a character check.

  39. Rude and crude is one thing. But making comments like that when a man and his wife are murdered by their son? That's so out of line and disrespectful. Makes him no different than the folks he was criticizing for their comments after Kirk was killed. Very two faced. We are not debating policies here. Just be a descent human being. Something I expect my president to be. Just needs to be more respectful. Not hard to do.
