    Government Shutdown

Air traffic controllers in this country aren’t all federal employees. There’s also a good case to be made that ATC’s should be employed by private, non-profit firms that are compensated by the airlines, airport systems, and other users of their services. The military has personnel that you couldn’t dream of—in numbers that would astound you—that are private contractors. They operate in areas that rarely make the news. If they make the news, someone poached the goat. Yes. When you confiscate money from the creators, and give it to a government entity to then redistribute, you lose efficiency, and it is a drain on the economy. Period. Zero sum. Now, how much loss vs. possible payback is an ROI question that is use dependent. Very few functions that are now civil service/government employees were always that way. The government encroached, and took them over. Followed shortly by the unions to make them almost untouchable. Most civil service jobs began as private functions.

Agree. This money could be better spent elsewhere. Nothing but political bribery.

  3. This lines up with my thoughts. Can Kirbyville score on Orangefield? Yes Can Kirbyville stop Orangefield from scoring 40+ ? No I would conservatively say, Orangefield wins this game 42 - 20 Do we know if this is Orangefields Homecoming or not?

  4. My gripe is that my employer provided insurance went up drastically when Obamacare kicked in. The promises made about it turned out to be all lies, my insurance went up to subsidize others. I’ll be on medicare in the near future and I’ll still have a leg to stand on to gripe about this mess because I’ve actually been paying for it for over 40 years, even though I would have gladly opted out, but I didn’t have the option, just like social security.

  5. It's basically a Medicare Advantage Plan system for those under 65 with a lot higher cost for the enrollee. I'm just hoping we can keep some form of coverage for 2 more years. I'd be happy with a catastrophic plan. But, the law doesn't allow us to purchase one. They basically limit choice/freedom.

  6. Why hello there! It's that time of year again (Bandtober) and the return of the annual UIL Region 10 Marching Band Contest! The contest will be held Saturday October 18, 2025 at Port Neches-Groves HS Stadium. The schedule shows 30 bands competing to earn that coveted Division 1 rating and the chance to move on to area competition and hopefully state competition. Admission has gone up to $7 according to the official UIL Region 10 website ([Hidden Content]). Admission is free for children 10 and under. I do plan to attend and record all the bands. If y'all want, come say hi to me as I battle the weather elements and try to get the best video/audio recordings of our local high school bands. Once I get back home, I will start to edit the video and audio, then post onto my YouTube Channel. If the weather stays like it has been throughout September and October so far, it will be an sunny day with highs reaching the upper 80s with a bit of a breeze throughout. I still have to apply the sunscreen, bust out the big umbrella, and keep well-hydrated. A reminder that ALL classifications will have the opportunity to advance past region to area/state competition. Keep in mind that we have separate open class (contemporary-style) and military class tracks for state marching band contest. Some of my thoughts: - One school missing from last year (2024) returning to the contest includes Warren. - West Hardin returns to contest after DNA'ing last year. - Lamar University does not appear to be performing for exhibition as they have done the last number of years. - Currently we have 3-2A, 9-3A, 12-4A, 6-5A bands participating. Best wishes to all participating bands as they finish learning their music/drill and polishing up their shows in the next week.

    Q. Maybe the best thing to come out of this shutdown? A. The Fed may actually have to use more accurate, private sector data for their next meeting.

Nice academic argument. Worker safety and fair pay? Private sector abused the fire out of their responsibilities. If the fair market is so ‘fair”, why were workers compensation and wage laws necessary? Unions would not have needed to organize were workers not abused mercilessly. Why were product safety laws needed? The invisible hand places profit above all else. If mankind was altruistic, that might work. But we’re not.

Did you even read your own article. It says funding will be pulled if the conservative government moves left. Hey, he could pull it and give it to Ukraine. No one would say anything then. Does that help America?

  15. So we just pay 10 people to do the job one person could do? Private companies can't do that..... In my job, I better be successful to they will find someone who will be. Cutting out the fat in the Government is never a bad thing......we finally have a President that understands how a business works.......and while the Government will never be able to run like a business, it is possible to improve how far our tax dollars go

  19. OF won't be forced to punt all night. The OF defense will be able to handle the Kirbyville passing game, and Kirbyville hasn't ran the ball all too well lately. I think it's a perfect recipe for a blowout.

  20. The post wasn’t exactly on the score. Two guy said “It’s gonna be a lot closer game than people think” because “Kirbyville has the best offense in the district” Kirbyville was stating they were and Hardin was saying nope lol.

  22. probably okay. I'll say OF 49, Kville 20. Before Kville lost by 10 to anahuac I would've felt better predicting this game closer. But when Anahuac scores 70 on Kirbyville one week and then loses to Ofield 49-14 the next, it's hard not to let that factor into my decision.

  27. From my reading, the limitations on repayment to try and reduce cost, coupled with medical professional shortages, forced hospital systems to create secondary care outlets that didn’t have the overhead costs of the main system. Most of the ‘urgent care’ facilities are actually owned by either insurance companies, or larger hospital conglomerates. In La Porte, all of our local, private doctors were bought up by United Healthcare. Obviously, they then limit the insurance accepted. Not a fan of insurance companies buying up all the medical practices.

  28. We schedule things for my wife all the time that way. That's just smart economics--if you physically can afford to do so. There are many simple things that shouldn't be as difficult as they are. Prescription renewals during hurricane season. If you're running low, and want to make sure you have a supply in case you're unable to get renewals due to storm effects, insurance still won't allow refills early. Our healthcare system is a mess, and ACA didn't fix anything except pre-existing conditions. As I've said, there were better ways to handle things. But, the push was on for single payer. I'm beginning to think single payer would be preferable to the mess we have now. You don't hear many griping that are on Medicare. (Except for the sometimes confusing paperwork/approval process.) I still don't agree with young people being able to stay on their parent's plan until they're 26. But, that's just me, and my son is grown. So, that is a lesser concern to me. To others, it means more. I always said ACA wasn't about actual healthcare. It was a payoff to insurance companies/lobbies to move towards single payer, and stay in their good graces for political purposes and political donations. I still think that. My dad had some things he would have preferred where he had to have a 'lesser' procedure--or medical device--because of cost, and Medicare wouldn't pay for the more expensive desire. But, for the most part, he was never denied any critical treatment for his cancer or anything else.

Yes. In many—if not most cases—I suggest we privatize services the government currently provides. At the least, move the services more to the state level. Federalism. A novel concept.

The people against it are either on true socialized medicine (Medicare, Medicaid) or employer based. You gripe about it, but you’re on socialized care with Medicare. You have no leg to stand on. Sorry. If you were over 60–but not yet 65–retired (either through choice or not), and needed insurance due to health reasons, you’d sing a different tune. You’d be glad you could get anything. Our ACA coverage has been better than any I ever had under my employers. It’s just expensive as crap. But, we’ve had zero issues with it. Even for high level experimental treatments for my wife’s Parkinson’s Plus.

Like I said, we’d be happy with a catastrophic plan where we paid the first $10k or so, and only used insurance for major medical expense. Just something to keep us from going bankrupt from medical emergencies. We’d pay for typical, routine care ourselves. Basically, what insurance is supposed to be. Protection from catastrophe. But, the government has taken away that option. They could have easily forced insurers to cover pre-existing conditions, let the insurance companies set the rates based on that criteria, allowed competition across state lines, allowed us to shop around, and been done. We all would have still had choice. Instead, they forced coverage on us we didn’t want or need. Not much different than Medicare. If you don’t enroll at 65, you’re penalized in most cases. Medicare rations care more than what we have now with ACA.
