I was just thinking out loud, actually. But relative to him being charged with negligence, I think the DA has a good case against him, and Baldwin is grasping at straws. The fact is, he was the final link in the chain, and it was his responsibility to check the gun before firing it. Never take anyone's word for it, no he-said- she-said, it was his negligence that caused the death, in my way of thinking.2 points -

I'm glad Kountze is having an improved season. I am. And I believe the Sells kid is a player.. But.. beating up on their district doesn't mean they could give Silsbee anything competitive. Like already said.. not gonna happen. And I personally don't even believe it would be a game.2 points -

The list of things that can change between JH and HS is vast. It's more likely than not that JH success won't be the same in HS. 1st and foremost.. 7th grade kids playing against everyone else's 7th grade kids and 8th grade kids playing against everyone else's 8th grade kids is not evenly remotely the same as 9-12th against 9-12th. A grade level of kids playing with either the grade above them or below them.. or both can dramatically change the success/failure compared to when it was just them. Not only do kids mature, gain strength, gain speed, gain size, and gain skill (both physically and mentally) at completely different levels and pace individually, but kids actually WORK and/or gain/lose interest completely different. Forget about the other obvious variables.. like: academic eligibility, transferring (both losing and gaining kids), quitting, reclassification, coaching change, etc. etc. etc. The situation for a Senior IS NOT THE SAME as that same kid's situation was when they were a 7th grader. To think so is idiotic. It's truly funny to me to hear people make predictions based on what happened in JH... might as well add little league as a predictor lol.2 points -
Jeffery Breaux named OF’s New AD
BeasTX89 and one other reacted to PlayActionPass for a topic
It is pretty funny to listen to people talk about scheme and how important it is. If you have the athletes, any scheme can be successful. The key is not the scheme, but rather the ability to coach it, make adjustments and the ability of play callers. Every scheme has the ability to run the ball and the opportunity to throw it. Really, it is all about the ability and willingness to call the plays and when to call them. Plenty of pass plays in the wing-t and slot-t playbooks. Coaching matters, but if you don't have the DUDES......2 points -

This is probably the primary reason the chirpers above didn't feel like he was a good "fit". Might get in Little Johnny's way of being the first air raid QB in the history of the Orangefield program. Either way, I do not know Coach Breaux, and I wish him the best of luck. I just can't get over the fact that a coach with state championship experience applied for the Orangefield job and didn't get it. That's probably the darndest thing I've ever heard on this site! If they'd do a little research, the reasons he has had so many job changes are understandable and clearly worked to advance his career. His oldest is heading to Lamar and his younger son is about to be a freshman. Sounds like a pretty good shot for, at least, a 4-year term. If he delivers to Orangefield in those 4 years what he has delivered in Harmony in his 2 years there, I promise you the candidates for the job next time would be significantly better than the list they had for this opening. But, hey, we gon' run da spread!!2 points

17/18 4A District Scores & Standings

Its a completely different culture across the board. Barrow has caught a lot of heat and owns some of it but its a Nederland ISD issue. I read a lot about kids playing multiple sports and all that. It really goes to overall involvement. PNG encourages a culture where kids are involved at a early age one way or the other. From students doing broadcast during games, 75 girls in drill team, band, and all the way thru into their athletics. Nederland needs to take a hard look at why their students are not getting involved. I might be wrong but I believe if your a cheerleader or drill team at Nederland you are not allowed to participate in spring sports, but I know at PNG they can. Why does one place have this type of participation in all there organizations and literally across the street their number shrink every year. One answer culture. Culture starts with your leaders and there is more than one leader at Nederland who should have to be answering these questions. Barrow and a lot coaches are going to take the bullet for this and rightfully so but their is still plenty of people from Principal Natalie Gomez to our Superintendent who need to take a hard look at the type of culture they are creating around them.1 point

When I was a kid, or maybe a young teen, a friend of my dad's was at our house showing him a new shotgun. When I came in and was handed the gun for a look-see, I asked if the gun was loaded, and my dad replied, "I'm not going to tell you". When I broke open the gun and checked for myself, (it wasn't loaded, btw), he proceeded to tell me to never ask if a gun is loaded, always check it for yourself. I've never forgotten that lesson.1 point -

I was @ work once, processing driver licenses etc. This tall skinny kid, maybe 6'2" or so was my next customer. He was changing his address from Bridge City to somewhere in Houston. I asked him if he played basketball for Bridge City. He said no. I was able to get out of him that he was going to school at UH or Rice majoring in architecture. I stopped asking questions after that. Playing B ball is not the cake. If a student works it just right it is at best just the icing on the cake.1 point

It was fun watching the BC student section. They were a hoot. The score was a matter of complete indifference to them. Being behind 20 something to 80 something apparently was not a factor in their thinking. They went nuts at every tiny little thing that went the Cardinals way. The ref calling a jump ball was like VJ Day for them. And there were a couple of times they cheered riotously for nothing at all, nothing at least that I could detect. The adult 3/4 of the stands was a good deal more cognizant of what was actually happening on the court and a little less exultant about the whole thing. With them it was more like, "Ouch" and "Yikes" and finally "Oh well'. Silsbee knows the feeling all too well and perhaps better remembering the Bellville game. If you've been though it there isn't much in this world that's more gratifying than winning a game on the road against a hostile crowd. Usually though there's some little note of disappointment and maybe even a hint of embarrassment in the enemy camp when the score is so lopsided. Not so here. Watching the kid section you'd have thought that BC was 50 points ahead rather than 50 points behind. No sir, they weren't going to let the fact that their guys were being run out of the gym spoil their fun. If you could have gotten their attention and said, 'Guys, look at the scoreboard." I'm sure their reply would have been something like, "Scoreboard? I don't see any scoreboard. What's a scoreboard?" Or perhaps it was just a case of managing expectations. If so it's one of the most impressive demonstrations of that science I've ever witnessed. Today I'm sure that it's ancient history for them. In the words of Ralphie, "In the jungles of kiddom, the mind switches gears rapidly."1 point

There is speed in OF to stretch the field and create space, i'm just most worried about the OLine. IF they can get a solid ground game going, I can foresee a good dose of quick game/RPO style offense to help the OLine. I don't foresee a whole lot of 3 step drop back and let er' rip. I think some people have a misconception of the spread just being a "slinging it deep". OF could make some money on short/Intermediate routes. You would be surprised how many simple bubble/slant/hitch routes turn into TDs because of one missed tackle. Lumberton for example lives off the short/intermediate passing game and getting the ball into the hands of their studs in space. The more I think about it, the more excited I get to see what the orange and white can do in the spread.1 point -
