Week-10 Port Arthur Memorial at Barbers Hill Predictions 10/27
Austin1985 and 2 others reacted to OlDawg for a topic
From what I’ve seen of the BH run game, just not sure they’re strong enough to take pressure off Fuentes & the passing game. If PAM can play their typical 425 & slow BH run game, BH is in trouble. PAM is weak up the gut against the power run unless they stack the box like they did against LP. This will be the chess match. If BH can throw in some pistol where their RB (Rodriguez I think it was) can hide and make PAM read the guards, it’ll buy Fuentes some time in the pocket and PAM will have to crowd. If they just run their normal pro type sets, PAM is talented enough defensively this year to nullify and sit/pressure on the pass. Since I haven’t seen BH live at what is full strength D-wise, not sure how they’ll stack up. PAM’s run game is solid. But, not like LP in that it’s not a power run game. Martin & Baker are speedy and hit the holes quick. They go down a little easier than LP’s Barnes, Sandolf & Bright. Can’t really compare the RB’s as they’re fairly different styles. Neither team’s OL fires off downfield like LP’s. Different styles. They’re more adept at pass pro, but can open lanes at the LOS. PAM’s receiving core is very solid. They anticipate & make excellent downfield routes. Best deep balls I’ve seen in district play. Not big. But very good hands. Not many dropped balls. The 3 or so minutes around the half against LP totally changed the momentum of our game. When LP missed the TD opportunity in the redzone ahead by 21 and going for the kill, then missed the FG, went into half, came out & fumbled the KO return, PAM jumped. BIG. At least a 13 point swing…possibly more. Momentum was PAM’s, and they never looked back. (Of course, they also began stacking the box at that point which was also big.) Seeing both against a common/solid opponent, PAM—IMHO—is the more dangerous team. But, they can be had if a solid team eliminates mistakes and makes them play straight up. TO’s—as usual—will make or break this game. JMO I’ve got PAM by at least a TD in a fairly low scoring contest for these teams. Say, 28-21. There may be weather. If wrong, I’ll be back to congratulate BH where the Scientist dude doesn’t get his feelings all hurt. 😁3 points -

as a kicker, I will say this... if you pass up the opportunity for your kicker to kick 30-40 PATs throughout the year, you better hope like heck you don't end up in a playoff game needing a 25-yd fg to win as time expires.2 points

But no one said you had to have 15,000 plus fans to have a game. Again, Lamar holds 16,000. That's just 3500-5000 more than The Rez and Bulldog Stadium. That extra is not going to matter for the team and the extra costs will not be worth just a third more of attendance. Both teams would lose more revenue just to convenience a third more people. I have been to MCM a few times. I honestly do not think 5000 people is getting turned away from this game on a yearly basis.2 points -

If Ned plays clean then they can beat Sante Fe. The difference between 3rd and 4th is big. RSS and GCM have no shot against FW, but I think that RSS has a punchers chance against this years Manvel team. Not sure about GCM, maybe they do as well. BH should bury LP.2 points

Said it earlier in the year, and I’m saying it again….until someone proves that they can beat Orangefield in this district , I will pick the Bobcats everytime. This is still Kirbyville who lost to Anahuac, and we have seen the downfall of Anahuac in recent weeks in the district with three losses to (Ofield, EC, and Buna). Orangefield just continues to win. I think Kirbyville will play tough but not enough to secure the victory.1 point -

Great coaching recognizes the talent their players may or may not have then adjust their system around those players to put them in the best position to win. One example is BISD having lots of talent but without a proper coach the y can't produce wins. Another is Crosby being consistent winners until their coaches left and they hit rock bottom. One Crosby coach goes to Chapel Hill and makes them winners instantly. There is too many examples of this to list1 point -

I’m no head coach, but in my opinion, I would gain a healthy lead then start putting in 2’s by the 4th quarter. Keep everyone healthy, and get some reps to some guys you may have to lean on down the stretch. For that reason I think it would be closer. Plus for some reason, LCM has always been a thorn in Lumberton‘s side. You never know when it comes to that matchup.1 point -

I think it's a lot closer to 50-50 than most people from schools with a lot of talent believe. Quite often those athletes are a product of a preparation in a system that goes back 6 or more years. When you start naming great athletes that came from your program, ask yourself "how successful would they have been if they'd played for a crappy program?" I use WOS as an example. The Mustang faithful always go back to it being the athletes, not coaching that made them great. All they need to do is hire one of CT's old assistants and there WILL be a return to glory, right? How many WOS kids are in the NFL right now? How many are playing D1 ball? Being a part of that program helped to make good athletes have great high school careers. But it's a mixture... the best coaching in the world won't help a bunch of unathletic kids get to the State Championship.... but top notch coaching can help a bunch of good players have a GREAT season/career.1 point -

When you have three guaranteed outs in a lineup, it makes it hard to win. There’s not a soft spot in the Rangers order. Peña, Maldonado, and Tucker are awful. I would start McCormick over Tucker. Tucker’s lack of hustle in the outfield and his inability to hit is a problem. Hopefully, they can pull it off tonight!1 point -

Wouldn’t go that far. The Larry’s & Joe’s aren’t much good if they’re in the wrong place, or wrong position. They also can’t make their own in game adjustments. If straight up & optimized—yes—Larry’s & Joe’s. But, like combat of a different sort, nothing is ever totally optimized. Just thoughts of an old man. Pay me no heed.1 point -
