From KFDM's Angel San Juan: I just talked to PN-G ISD superintendent Mike Gonzales, who says the district has hired legendary high school and college football coach Todd Dodge as a consultant to help PN-G in its search for a new football coach. Dr. Gonzales says, once a new coach is selected, Dodge has agreed to stay on as a mentor for one year to the new PN-G coach. Dodge, 58, is a Port Arthur native, who played quarterback for the University of Texas in Austin. He is currently the head coach at Westlake High School in Austin, he will retire from there at the end of the month. Gonzales says PN-G ISD could not hire Dodge as coach since he has decided to retire, but Gonzales says "We were able to hire the best to help us find the best." Gonzales says up until this point, there have been 36 applicants for the top coaching job, he says applications will be accepted through Thursday afternoon.4 points -

The names will come out. I usually file a request once the job closes or 10-15 days after the job is posted. They have ten days to respond with the request. Districts are known to drag this out longer than ten days though. About to send off Jasper and will file for PNG Friday.3 points -

Well, I have been an admin on this site since 2006 (16 years, site started in Dec. 2005) and I have seen many accounts on this site be folks who claim have never had an account. As a regular member, you do not have the access that we admins have here in checking out accounts on this site so you really DON'T KNOW. Can only take their word. Again, I am not saying who has an account or not has one but you simply cannot state YOU KNOW and call it fact unless you have access to those accounts. bullets has access and has done some research. I would tend to agree with him before I take your word.2 points -

Stephenville wins that game with Smitty/Reagan coaching against Burnett. They were clearly the better team, and that was for all intents and purposes a home game for PNG (shoutout to Indian Nation who is second to none - well maybe second to 20th century MOJO). As I recall, Stephenville won by double digits, even after fumbling not once, but twice on the Indian 1 yard line. Just wasn’t that close. To be fair, that was one fine Yellowjacket team.2 points

With the obvious fact that I have absolutely no clue what they are doing or for that matter even care…… But also realizing that politics is politics and sometimes all about appearances….….. The dealmakers for PNGISD might still have just a couple of main candidates (or even one). What I find intriguing is the year as a mentor for Dodge. I don’t know about lately but I have read in past years that Todd Dodge is known for giving coaching seminars/clinics. And why not? If I had his credentials in any endeavor, I would be consulting or doing seminars. It sounds like they have arranged basically for a private one year seminar/clinic for whoever the new coach is from probably one of the most in demand opinions about high school football that is possibly under the guise of, he is here to help us as part of a search committee but while he is here……. Then toss in this.……. As you say as shown by comments in this thread (some from people who either claim to be or seem to be in the know), it gives the impression that this whole process is rigged. Simply look at the comments on the WOS new coach. Before he was ever officially named and particularly afterwards, the feeling from many is that the interviews and taking of applications was rigged and just a dog and pony show. What better way for PNGISD to hire “their guy” but take some of the stigma off of their back then to say, Todd Dodge helped us come up with this selection!!! Plausible in politics?1 point -

Someone HasBeenDrinking this morning. Splendora managing to take 4th place HH to OT WAS the upset of the year, and they didn't even manage to win. If HJ has a terrible game they'll still win by 20. If the Hawks play well they'll beat splendora by 50 again like they did last month.1 point

I don’t think it’s a matter of being wrong but violating company rules if I understand the article and his comments. Also in this case, sex (I am assuming) with a subordinate tends to make it appear criminally and civilly problematic as well as the appearance of a scandal affecting ratings.1 point

One very important question remains unanswered about this entire process before we can get closure. How did Roderick Robertson do at the casino that night ? Did he hit a progressive jackpot ? I got to shut down all electrical power to USCs' Leavey Library and Tals Hall the week of the USC/TX championship. You should of seen the looks on the students faces when I walked in to the library to access the damage with my longhorn hat on. They didnt get to save any of their work on the computers before the outage. It was another win for Texas in my eyes although the boss wasnt happy. Its a story that I will pass down to my grandkids. BMTSoulja1 reacted to BayouB for a topic
Clap back? LOL. You’re something else. Nederland’s leading scorers were their post & forward. They were attacking the basket early, then United switched to zone to take that away. Like I said earlier, if there were a shot clock, the Dogs would not have had a single violation. United on the other hand? Several in the 2nd Q.1 point -

Honest Abe reacted to BayouB for a topic
LOL. Wrong. You must not have watched the game. If there were a shot clock, United would have had several violations. They held the ball up top in the 2nd Q to see if the Dogs would come out & chase them (which they didn’t). Nederland on the other hand, spread the floor & attacked the basket early. To the point that United switched to a zone. Dogs took care of the ball (which took away easy transition baskets) & protected the paint on D. United struggled shooting, while the Dogs competed on the boards. No doubt, Yates would have made a difference in the game. Great effort from the Dogs.1 point -

The Lady Hawks are really tuning it up. Cant help who you play in district. But what I've liked is the way the Hawks are executing and sharing the ball. They had almost 8 players in double digits for this game. Their unselfishness is a beautiful thing to see, the ball makes it to every layer of the offense.1 point -

Sulphur Springs…/Faircloth hired
agrfall1970 reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
Yeah, they just showed up at Aledo. I watched Aledo's 1998 title game against Cuero and I didn't see one black kid on the team. Not that that part matters but somehow all of a sudden with the same 2% black population in their school you get Johnathan Gray, Jase McClellan, Jojo Earle, the Allen brothers, Jeff Carter, etc. ALL in recent years when they never had them before. Throw that in with their population explosion and Aledo is a total anomaly in the sense that their recruiting numbers look more like Arlington Martin's versus Southlake Carroll's like they should. CE King is good now. Is it because the new coach is that much better or is it because their enrollment grew by 1500 kids since they were in the district with Crosby 6 years ago? 1500 additional North Shore type kids is going to make it easier on any coach. Jon Kay has won 4 state titles in 8 years at North Shore. He might end up as the greatest high school coach ever but he's not beating Dodge, Samples, Carter and Joseph with Summer Creek's talent the way he's basically owned them while at North Shore going 11-3 in those contest. Meanwhile he's 3-5 against the Meekins brothers at Westfield. I know you don't consider them great coaches due to not having titles though. There's a huge difference between "low" expectations and realistic expectations which is where I think you're getting confused. I watched PNG play Montgomery and I would've given Montgomery a slight advantage athletically yet PNG still beat them. If PNG played Montgomery 10 times it would probably be 5-5. I watched them play Texas High the next week and the gap in athletes was more like a chasm. They could play that game 10 times and TH would probably win 9 of them. If PNG's administration can't can't objectively watch their team play and come to that conclusion then that's more on them than it is on BF.1 point -
Got beat down in the quarters by A&M Consolidated who was superior athletically. If Malone woulda stayed 20 years he woulda never won state.1 point

I'll ask you: Did the "personel" just show up when Surratt at Carthage (after 84 years of no State Title) and Buchanan at Aledo showed up? Of course not!! They were there before. The coach was the difference! Again, letting a coach go, it all depends on where you set the bar. My bar is high. The PNG coach had 12 years. Does that mean he was treated unfairly? I wouldn't think so. But, I knew after 7-8 years that a State Title wasn't in PNG's future. Maybe the Superintendent and board members realized the same thing. Like I've said before -- if one's expectations are low, then they'l be met EVERY time!1 point
-
As others have said, Peevey would appear crazy to be interested in this job. To deduce why, one would need not look further than LCM’s treatment of his predecessor (Crouch), and PNG’s treatment of his would-be predecessor, Faircloth. LCM has always paid their coaches really well (Crouch stayed one of the highest paid coaches in the area) and, maybe more importantly, the admins stay out of their way and let them do their thing.1 point
