Most of the Hitchcock kids ar football heavy.  The tallest kid #11, a junior,  is mainly basketball and could be D1.  The other tall kid inside #24, junior quarterback, committed to Texas Tech.  Two of the guards, one going to UNLV and the other going to Memphis.  The other starting guard, football wr, has offers from Texas, A&M, Penn State just to name a few.   Runs a 10.6 100.  All good athletes.

Like Silsbee’s Miller, they have D1 kids in more than one sport.  Like Miller, some are choosing football because they can play Power 5 in that sport vs Mid major in hoops (although Drelon could be power 5 in either possibly). How many D1 basketball kids has Orangefield ever had?  Not many.  You are correct though about them being football heavy.  One of the things I love about the really good teams in lower divisions.  Get to see true athletes who are great in multiple sports.

  2. They just have way too much firepower. One of their kids I know well is junior Elijah Sherwood.  Really good kid.  You could argue he’s the third best player on that team.  He would also probably be the best wing in the history of Orangefield basketball.  We would need to shoot the ball as well as we possibly could shoot it even be in the game.  Still a great season for the Bobcats, record setting season in wins and record tying season in playoff wins.  Future is very bright.

  3. It is remarkable to me how many D1 guards are unable to execute a pick and roll or even a simple entry pass.  When Shumate was out the majority of the game with foul trouble, the Cards struggled to capitalize getting Hamilton touches.  He is easily (imo) their best offensive option, primarily because of his size and the efficiency with which he scores the basketball.  But there are only a few Lamar players who are able to make the entry pass consistently, and most are other bigs (this does not involve mine who was out with the flu these past two games).

But this is far from just a Lamar problem.  Shahada Wells, who most rate as the top guard in the league, does a pretty poor job at executing the high pick and roll.  In a game where he only played 17 minutes, Shumate was WIDE OPEN at least 3 times on rolls after he set a very good screen, and got zero touches out of them (all 3 would have been easy dunks).  I can only imagine he’s probably 10 ppg under where he would be if they could or would properly run that play.  And in my mind, he’s the best player in the conference by a good bit.

I said after the Silsbee West Orange game that Silsbee is going to make the new West Orange area their new home away from home it’s a very Classy arena up their with a lot of really good 6a schools facilities if not better than that.

I’m all for it.  I will even make an exception to my “never, ever wear maroon” rule.

That was one of the weakest techs I’ve ever seen. Whitmire was close to the other side of the bench not even talking directly to the official. That official was looking to T him up at that point

That makes a lot of sense.  Knew it had to be something screwy at that stage of the game.  I do not miss having to watch high school officiating.

  6. They also took the other team’s best shot. Caldwell, who is the second best player in the league (imo) behind McNeese’s Shumate, went for 30 and 12 tonight.  30 is his career high and the 12 boards were one shy of his career high.  The next two home games will tell a lot because McNeese and CC A&M are the toughest two opponents in the league.

Lamar men with another road win (back to back) beating Southeastern 77-72.

Lamar is now 15-11, 9-4 in conference.

They have now beat 2 of the top 5 conference teams on the road (tonight and Nicholls).  Have lost to two bad teams on the road HCU and UIW but responded well this weekend with this one and Saturday’s blowout of UNO.  And both the Nicholls win and this one were in OT.  Always encouraging to win those kinds of games in hostile environments.

I personally don’t think he’s in trouble.  I think he’s done the best he can and generally put forth a very conservative platform.  The cries about cooperation with the democrats confuse me; shouldn’t politicians from both sides attempt to work together?  Shouldn’t politicians from both sides be at least congenial and vote for what is best for the state / country?  What happened to common sense?  Close the border, cut back on taxes - across the board.  City tax, county tax, water board tax, port tax, sales tax, income tax, school district tax - Jiminy crickets - enough is enough.

    Out of likes.

One issue that concerns me is the attempts to reduce funding from public schools to give it to families that home school or send their kids to private school.  I believe that is one issue Dade has butted heads with the conservative platform and that is one where I happen to agree with him.  And it’s nice to have the speaker from our area obviously.  I struggle though because I know his main opponent personally and he’s a very good man that I believe most of this board would really like.

    I have a question too.

Why is Phelan crying foul on campaign integrity when he is the only one throwing mud in his TV ads? At least from the ads I have seen.

Excellent question.  Not that it’s unusual I guess.  Amazing how often a politician cries about dirty politics while holding a handful of mud.

1-0. 4-2 win in the season opener.  Don't worry Spidersal, they will lose a close one at some point and you and I can call for a regime change from the President all the way to all adjunct faculty.   College baseball is here!!

I know you are joking but Sal and whoever else can call for all the coaching changes you want (and might be justified).  But let’s all pray Dr. Taylor is here for a long, long time.  Easily the best president Lamar has had in a long, long time.
