Coach said he (the son) would have been a big plus to the Nederland program and was disappointed he left. They thought it was a done deal.

Which is odd to me, the regulations say they must be easily accessible but I've done the same thing, had to dig them out of storage and no problem. I guess there are some that may enforce it more to the rule.

I heard that Nederland’s staff and boosters were not very friendly to the Barriers during their visit. A whole lot of “don’t think you’re coming in here to reinvent the wheel” and “we’ve got our starting QB so don’t think some small school kid can come in here and play” etc. Pretty sure Nederland not being very welcoming was the determining factor of the Barriers moving on. And on a couple other notes, Ned is a tremendous coach and offensive mastermind. His head coaching record isn’t great, but look at the programs he took over. Nobody goes to those schools and puts up big winning records. Any school would be lucky to get Coach Barrier as HC or OC….with or without Brady coming along. Speaking of Brady, apparently several posters on this thread have NOT SEEN this kid play. He is legit in every sense of the word. Tremendous athlete, great kid, and someone that LOVES football. He just made it to regionals in the discus…as a freshman. And those of y’all saying yeah he started at a 3A school as a freshman, big deal, lots of kids do that. He didn’t just START, the kid balled out. He threw for 2600+ yards (65.8% completion), 21 TDs (rushed for another 5 scores) and only 5 interceptions. He only play 2-3 quarters in multiple games blowing teams out and in the 10 games other than Newton and Franklin he only threw one interception (Anahuac was trailing in both those games and were throwing a ton late into heavy pass coverage). Kid throws dimes and eats, sleeps and breathes football and is a very underrated athlete. He’s about 6’3” 200lbs right now….and just finished 9th grade last week. His first game after 8th grade was the season opener as the starter against Newton and the athletes they bring to the table….and he didn’t seem phased at all. So anyone thinking he can’t make the immediate jump to 5A and that level of play doesn’t have a clue. We’ll be watching this kid throw TDs on Saturdays in a few years, mark my words. Nederland really lost out not getting those two.

Yeah, the law about just having them doesn't make sense. You won't have time to get them if something happens. At least have the throw device out just in case.

Yeah, I follow your attempt at logic. The 13, 14 and 15 amendments were about slavery. Millions of people immigrated to this country as a beacon of freedom as in the mass of immigrants at Ellis Island and other immigrant processing locations. They were not citizens when they arrived and would have come anyway for a chance at prosperity. Are you suggesting that the world trying to beat a path to America was because their future children might have citizenship? Finally and most importantly, Article I of the Constitution give only Congress the complete authority to regulate immigration and naturalization (citizenship). There was no need for an amendment for birthright citizenship. They could have simply given citizenship to anyone at any time by legislation. They didn’t need the 13 Amendment. By making it an amendment, it could not be taken away from former slaves by future legislation. If the 13 Amendment never existed, Congress could still grant citizenship to anyone it wishes. There was never a need to an amendment to grant citizenship to anyone. The 13, like the 14 and 15, was about correcting the wrongs of slavery, not an incentive to try and lure people to this country…. while people were beating on the door to get in.

I can see the number moving up around 559 to 564. If so I can see 10-3A getting Woodville & Warren back in the district.

It’s become a good rivalry. Wasn’t that way until about 10 years ago. The demographics of LP have changed to majority Hispanic, and the sports teams reflect that change. As far as enrollment, I believe 2282 is the old number. But, the senior class graduated 450, and the 8th grade is about the same. Maybe a touch less. Seems I read 815 somewhere. I expect LP to remain 5A for a while. UIL will continue to raise numbers, and the new residents are still very young families. Of course, I am wrong half the time. 😀

David Brown, Michael Dabney. David Brown was 6'8", HS all American. He played in the NCAA final four for Memphis. May he RIP. David Brown was good friends with James Hunter. Both were class of 1972. Michael Dabney was class of 1975.

Was told he couldn’t bring his playbook, audibles or anything to WB. Just a glorified assistant. He wasn’t even there for a full calendar year… so we will see.

Barrows is one of the better offensive minded play callers in the area, he’s called many many gems. He’s still going to be calling the offensive plays. IMO Coach Smith will now be able to help Barrows on the offensive side and they can put their heads together for a better game plan, while Monte can move his focus to the overall team O,D, ST. From what’s been told Coach Smith has came in and hit the ground running got with all the offensive players, coaches, and even getting the middle school coaches. Let’s give it some time and see how things play out, could be a big jolt in the right direction to get the dogs back to their winning ways

All these desperation moves are making one thing very clear.... Nederland is a sinking ship, very nearly sunk. Abysmal....

There needs to be coaching turnover within every program to keep the ideas fresh. Nederland has fallen into a laid back good old boy attitude for too long and it has finally come to light and everybody is seeing that now. More than half the coaches don't even teach anything, so your paying people teachers salary to do nothing or sit in OCS. The whole system is broken at Nederland and its time for something to change.

I do not know if any girls teams made the playoffs, however none of the major boys programs made it. When Neumann was there the athletes were hungry for success, now I am not so sure I do know from watching football the past 2 seasons, there is not a lot of talent and the coaching at every position is lacking. This past season was probably the most disappointing season in football that I have seen in Nederland in 20 to 30 years. IMO, as I watched them, they looked like an HISD program. They were soundly beaten in just about every game and honestly appeared to have no desire to win. The prime example for me to say this is the way they got beat by the annual doormat SF
