Now we're going to discuss the differences between debating and arguing? Unbelievable.. By the way, I can assure you that I'm not taking anything personal. I'm not the one using exclamation points in my posts.. as if your emotion will make your point stronger. It won't. You should be happy.. I've long since become bored with this debate/argument (whatever you wanna call it). You think that a coach is only elite because of championships. I don't. You think an elite coach (according to your definition) can win anywhere and with anyone. I don't. Signing out of this circus.

  3. I guess it is time to go the cheerleader route and just nominate every damn player in the area to keep everyone happy.

  4. You use two different people’s opinions to show hypocrisy? Just for sake of the discussion, a death sentence is carried out on a person convicted of a heinous crime of taking another human life. A baby in the womb has committed the heinous crime of….. what?

No.. the debate is whether or not an "elite coach" can make a school like Tarkington (with zero relative success in their past) into an elite program. Then the debate turned into what makes a coach an elite coach. Your opinion, as stated multiple times, is that having won a state title or more makes you an elite coach. It is argued by me.. and everyone else in this thread.. that it takes much more than just being a good coach to win a state title. It is also argued that not Art Briles.. nor Scott Surrat.. nor Buchanan.. nor Tom Westerberg could go to Tarkington and win a state title in the relative future without a substantial influx of above average ability. I'd bet every dollar I have that they couldn't go there at the same time and win it all within 6 years with the kids Tarkington ISD has right now. Will they get tremendously better? No question.. Will they improve? Without a doubt? But I'll bet on Tarkington's football history over those coaches' histories every time. It makes no difference to me what your opinion is regarding that. If a person believes that ANY coach can go to ANY school with ANY level of talent and win a state championship then they're an idiot. If you fall into that category.. it is what it is. Now for the Westerberg comment. He won 3 consecutive state titles with the most prolific high school quarterback that the state of Texas has ever had, along with countless other very highly skilled football players, plus the best overall support staff that money could buy (at the high school level), plus arguably one of the biggest pools of players to choose from in the country, and finally the nicest high school facilities in the state of Texas (at that time). Someone commented above that there were around 50 D1 football players from Allen during his coaching tenure.. Know what? Maybe he should've won a state championship every year that he was there. And the fact that he didn't .. might mean that he's not as good a coach as you're arguing. If it was only about coaching.. then the same exact coach would have the same exact results every year. Every single year.

Westerberg took over at Allen at the perfect time.....they were growing at an incredible rate and talent was arriving by the boatload as Allen became the largest school in the country...he's a very good coach and he had a very good staff with multiple head coaches on there.....but like I said very good coaches still cant win with mediocre talent (ie Barbers Hill)

  9. With the school board looking to change the name again at the stadium, why not transfer the name at the stadium on campus at West Brook to the new stadium? Can't think of a more deserving man to have his name on that stadium.

Not sure how you got to there, I’m no better than anyone but obviously myself and many others were smart enough to see this train wreck coming but many didn’t because they have no clue as to what is going on politically. That is something I can’t do anything about, and it’s getting worse, not better.

Right... I'll even go so far as to say that most of the posters here are more intelligent than the average voter. Or at least more interested. At the end of the day the "great unwashed" are who must be won by either side to emerge as the winner. It makes no sense to set out to offend those votes that you HAVE to have by being a boor, or by championing unpopular ideas because they're "right" in our own way of evaluating the issues. The masses didn't love Trump... they disliked Hillary. The masses didn't love Biden... they HATED Trump. Nobody is going to be like "Oh, I learned my lesson! Give us those mean tweets!" They still rightfully can't stand the guy. Grabbing an unpopular, polarizing issue that is guaranteed to be a non-starter for half of the electorate as your hill to die on is just stupid. Want to win the general in 2024? Don't even MENTION the word abortion. Focus on getting our nation back on track. Promise to pardon Hunter Biden. Promise to focus on the fact that the average American is spending $350/month more for the basics than they were a year ago.... Not betting that a strong stand over trans athletes being banished from sport or corralling CRT as the basis for what you're trying to accomplish.

and you'll still be worried about the wrong thing. You have to win the middle or you win nothing. it's amazing how rigid the conservative right is. "heck no we won't compromise a little towards the middle to improve our chances of winning, we'll just shout the same views the middle voted against last time even louder and call everyone who votes against us fools and idiots! There's no way we can fail, but if we do it's because they're so dumb, not because some of our policies and beliefs are becoming outdated and irrelevant."

  13. Lamar is directionless, gutless and pitiful. If you're going to leave the WAC, going back to the Southland conference with your tail between your legs is not the move. All the issues with the Southland are still there. The lack of investment in facilities, program and coaching. Just because Lamar hasn't got any coaching hires right doesn't mean they were wrong to leave the SLC. The SLC hosts its basketball tournament in a high school gym. On a floor 10'shorter than regulation. The WAC plays in Vegas. I wish they had leadership and did what it takes to get in the Sun Belt, which is where they belong. Until then, I'm through.

The thing about it is this... we're seeing the results of following extremist principles on the left right now. The wanton spending, "woke" narratives being forced on everybody, and general decline of our society. There are two things that can happen. 1. Equally repugnant extremists on the Right can say "Oh, Boy! Now EVERYBODY sees that extreme leftism isn't the answer... extreme right wing views are the answer" and run out a bunch of freaking wingnuts and destroy whatever momentum that is heading our way. 2. The common sense conservatives can make a stand on their own, dragging the party back to center right where we can actually win a persistent majority from the middle, even if the hardcore coolaid drinkers on the right don't think we're doing enough.

  19. Absolutely. Savion Flagg never goes to Sam if they hadn’t moved to the WAC. Same could be said for several kids I can name but won’t. Got the same report from SFA about a couple of their transfers/signees. Right or wrong, many kids, especially Texas kids, aren’t interested in the Southland unless forced. (This is basketball only that I can speak to). To put it in relative terms, the Southland champ will almost always be a 16 seed. The WAC will be in the 12-13 range. That’s about right in difference of levels. And you get seen in many states, not just Texas and Louisiana.

  21. The job just got posted earlier this week so the process is just in the beginning. The posting is for AD and HFC but in the posting it says that they reserve the right to hire those positions separately. So they are very early in the process and don't know if they wanna separate it or not. The new sup just started so I imagine she will have somebody she will want to bring but she is from the Dallas area and not sure anybody will want to follow her down here. That is about all I know.

You're actually proving my point... that because of fluctuating talent in every opponent (even one's own school), due to graduations, injuries, etc. can and will impact the results of a season. How many coaches out there could have had a state championship if not for losing kids for whatever reason and/or reclassification? Or visa versa. Tell the guy I'm arguing with that there are other factors at play.. other than who the coach is.

  29. I’ll be honest… I doubt that he feels any differently about those unborn children than He does every time we execute a murderer here in Texas. Kinda like I doubt He’s more bothered by homosexual acts than he is bothered by my sleeping around with loose women. Or that He’s offended because two gays want to get married, but doesn’t mind all of us going down to the courthouse to tear asunder what Gawd Himself had joined together. Nothing says “marriage is between one man and one woman” quite like a third marriage. i personally find abortion to be immoral. Luckily I’ll never have to make that choice. But I’m also smart enough to understand that well over half of our population has never lived in a period where abortion wasn’t allowed. It’s what we know, and it’s what we’re used to. And now most of us don’t even bother going to church. But somehow we collectively have some new moral objection to abortion and we’re finally ready to outlaw it as a group? You’d have to be a special kind of stupid to believe that. What’s next? Wait 40 years and then try to get the Supreme Court to ban gay marriage?

No, I don’t really have a voice on the other side. But the right IS the side which I support, and I’m very comfortable calling out behavior that will lead to positions which will lead to our defeat… like nominating trump again.

  39. And your argument means nothing to the 50% of Americans who believe it's their God-given right to do whatever they want with their own body. Has the Supreme Court ever reversed a key decision like Roe v. Wade? I can't think of a single time, so there's that. The correct way to resolve this dilemma is with a Constitutional Amendment that would ban the practice. But neither side has the voting power to do so, so the new plan will be to create new laws at the state level that will be challenged every single time there's a switch in the balance of power on the Supreme Court? That's not how this is supposed to work. We've had 49 years to legislatively correct the decision in Roe v. Wade if we felt like the decision was wrong... but the pro lifers don't (and never have had) the votes to get it done. The Supreme Court has ruled... it is what it is. There's a way to fix it, and it's not by making a run at having the Supreme Court re-hear the same old issue. I'm certain that the same people who oppose abortion are also the same ones raising hell about passing out rubbers at school, too.
