LCM at Huffman Hargrave
piratevillain and 2 others reacted to Mr. Thornton Melon for a topic
LCM has a new coach that has his team showing improvement week after week and this trend will continue. He has made vast improvements in a short amount of time . All these other teams in district have the same coaches and schemes they have had forever , they've advanced their systems to it's pinnacle a long long time ago. LCM will continue to improve and will end up running this district eventually. LCM fans, your day has come Congratulations. Enjoy It3 points -

BH got the ball twice in the third and scored 13 points, fumbled and punted on their drives in the 4th quarter. Crosby still had to play the pass earlier in the half and that allowed BH some success in the run game in the third quarter, they didn't have much success running it in the 4th when Crosby knew they were trying to run the clock though. I'm not advocating you run the ball, I'm advocating you score and put the game away. I can show you where Holdren looked 81's way and pulled it down more than once in the second half and scrambled which was really BH's best plays all night. Maybe your coach doesn't understand yet that 15 points isn't a big enough lead on Crosby, he's not playing Leander anymore.2 points -

I know BH punted it to us on their last possession because it was downed at the 2 yard line. We went 98 yards in less than 1:30 minutes to tie the game. Not to add insult to injury or anything.2 points -

They didn't throw it to him because he wasn't open. Holdren ended up getting blasted on the last play of the game on overtime trying to hold it and look for him. Problem with running it down Crosby throat was that it's not the way BH got the lead. BH scored 33 points in the first half being aggressive throwing the ball, running it in the second half only scored y'all 13 and never put the game away. Matter of fact it caused you a fumble on the second to last drive in regulation and when Crosby knew you were going to run it on your last drive in regulation y'all couldn't. Had Kirkwood's td not been called back on the phantom hold 10 yards behind the play it never even goes to OT. Y'al were tied with PAM late and lost by 28, y'all were up 15 points on Crosby with 4 mins left and collapsed. There's at theme there.2 points -

Final records from pre-District, and they are impressive. District record against non-District opponents is 24 wins & 5 losses. Excellent record. HH - 5-0 Vidor 4-0 Liv, LCM & Splendora 4-1 Ltown 3-2 For comparison, District 9-4A-D1, non-District record, with 7 teams was: 21 wins & 7 losses.2 points -

This thread still going. BH more offended by that stomp than the dangerous late hits. BTW #24 did not knock off the OT helmet it cam off while he was making a damn good block. #24 kicked the helmet while it was on the ground. Texanlive has a great view of it. 2nd Herndon only scorched a DB once he had a safety playing underneath all night. Simple pitch and catch. When 24 switched sides they stopped throwing his way2 points -

Never once on Texan Live did I see what you were referring to and I watched the entire game as well. Kids will be kids. Adults should know better. There are some good guys coaching at Crosby and BH with lots of experience. They should lead by example for the kids and just as important they should lead by example for the younger coaches. Not sure what coaches were on the Logo stomping up and down. If it was Prieto then shame on him.2 points

Ever heard of the old saying "2 wrongs don't make a right" well that applies to this situation. In a case like this, a good, creditable HC would call his players together and tell them not to get wrapped up in the antics of the other team. He would also point out to the officiating crew that players are being hit after the whistle and those hits are starting to add up. Also, the coach has the right to pull his players from the game if he believes that is an option. But never would a HC with tact and respect for the game think its ok to jump up and down on a teams logo at midfield. And the people that think that is acceptable behavior...well they are just as classless.1 point -

In game penalties vs jumping up and down/celebrating at midfield. I do not see the correlation. Classless move by coaches. Coaches are suppose to set an example for the young men they coach. And yes, I did watch the game.1 point -

Nederland seams to struggle in the first half. They are going to have come out swinging. I don't think they will match up too well. TC will be a much quicker opponent, similar to WOS. So with that being said, Big Ned by 2 touchdowns.1 point -

Another point to my last post on this thread, why does BH insist on going for two on the first TD? It is such a deflating thing after scoring a TD to miss on the 2pt try. If they get any of the 3 xp opportunities they had they win the game against Crosby.1 point -

Why does BH insist on going for two so much especially on first TD drive? Seems like a total downer after a TD to then not convert on the 2pt try. Against Crosby if they kick just one of the 3 xp opportunities they win the game.1 point -

I’m biased. I’m trying hard not to be. Last years HH offense was not as productive as this years. The starting center was out and the backup was a senior that was undersized but did a good job. The defense went after him (as they should) and made it tough. Some healing after the bye week will help but if the offense can do what they do, they can score enough to win. The Huffman defense will need to tackle well. The LCM offense has playmakers in the run and short pass game that get yards. HH has the defensive speed and they are rarely out of position. The long game is just not there for LCM but the secondary for HH is playing lights out so that may not matter. If both teams play to their strengths, this game favors HH. I like both head coaches so I would be willing to bet they both might have a couple tricks up their sleeves. updating my worthless score prediction. 28-20 Huffman. if the weather is rainy, it’s a toss up in my opinion.1 point

ctown81 reacted to Bulldogs92 for a topic
The Bulldogs have traditionally been undisciplined, to be honest. I don't remember many seasons that we played clean football, but we've always had enough talent to overcome those mistakes. We're really good when everything comes together (2018 for example)...but when the talent isn't there and you make too many mistakes, you get a team like this one. I'm sure the coaches harp on all of this, but how coachable are the kids? It's on everybody.1 point -

That’s the truth. What I remember about movies on TV was Saturday Night at the Movies. The first was “Snows of Kilimanjaro” with Susan Hayward. Her red hair was perfect for color on TV. Most leading ladies in the movies were red heads, with some exceptions. Bonanza, The Wonderful World of Disney, and Saturday morning cartoons rounded out the color shows on TV. Lots of the black and white TV shows that later colorized, seemed to go downhill afterwards. Black and white TV still has its appeal to me. Old Yeller was a great movie that wouldn’t have the same effect on today’s youth. You have to actually care about things for it to affect you.1 point

Old yeller: tommy Kirk passes
thetragichippy reacted to tvc184 for a topic
I never saw Old Yeller. My older brother saw it in maybe 1963 or so and was telling me about it when he got back home. But, this thread brought back memories about the old days. We sometimes see discussions of drive in theaters, no microwaves, aluminum foil tray tv dinners, black and white television, 3 channels with no remote, maybe putting aluminum foil on the rabbit ears antenna to improve reception, The television station signing on about 6 AM and going off the air about 12 midnight by playing the Star Spangled Banner as a broadcast day began and ended….. The main memory from this thread is movies back then. Old Yeller came out about 1957 yet there was my father was bringing my brother to see it “at the movies” in 1963-ish. What we may have forgotten and younger people don’t know is that movies were not available on VHS (even video tape didn’t exist), you generally could not see movies on television but some later shows had an occasional old movie. You either saw it at the movies or you didn’t see it. Movies back then “came back around” maybe a year or two later as a rerun much like reruns on TV but at the theater. They would come back maybe a few times. It was especially true with classics like Gone With The Wind that might be showing at the theater 20 years after it originally came out. If it didn’t, you simply wouldn’t see it. Many times those would be an Saturday matinees. Now we can watch practically any movie on demand on a telephone (which back then had a cord about 10 feet long so there were very few private conversations) or cast it onto our color smart television. How far we have come in a lifetime…..1 point
