  1. Probably during District play they will move some people up and let them get much needed varsity experience. I really don't see much of a threat during district play. CC may have a good team but they won't be able to play with Newton. And if they move a lot of kids up to play during second half of the game it will give the bread and butter some rest. No disrespect, but I just see District play as prep for the playoffs. It's a foregone conclusion, in my mind.

  2. That’s what you said last year. Silsbee scored and drew blood first, then the beat down began.

  3. I think the absence of #8 in those two big games made it closer than should have been. I know he was out in other games but it showed against a good team.

  4. Not an unreasonable position. In fact, two of pollsters agreed with you. I'll just tell you my view on the deal. It is quite simple, you lose, you drop. To some, that mind sound quite arbitrary and some of our pollsters agree. That is why we don't leave the rankings in the hands of a single person.

  5. I've seen Ned play/scrimmage and know the new and returning players. I was disappointed a bit in the pass blocking vs WOS. The tandem backfield is definitely something any coach would like to have and if they can produce 4-5 yards a carry then the Dogs should be fine moving forward. However, overall ( knowing it was a 1st game) I wasn't truly impressed with the overall play by the Dogs. With the 2 back plus the Soph this offense should be electric when all 3 are on the field IMO. Prediction (United 31 Dogs 21)

  6. Going to be a good one. Sticking with the dogs. They were slow out of the gate last week. Can't afford to spot BU 14 points as they did WOS. Hope they get the rust out there heads. I think Monte will have them prepared. Looking forward to see what those young RB's will do on turf. The "Butch" is always a good venue. Being on a Thursday night, will be interesting to see what kind of crowd it will be. I think it will be good night for HS football.

    LCM VS WOS

If WOS has the turnovers under control then it'll be all them. Maybe even a shutout. Last week, WOS had Nederland under control (14-0) before the fumbles started. Even with the turnovers WOS emerged victorious. A sign of a good team. I watched them early last year and wasn't impressed. But, they looked like a decent team this year. I was impressed with their QB's arm. That throw he made over the middle for their second TD was impressive. Plus the Chain Gang appears to be back!

  11. Let me get this straight. We exist in a culture where kids are encouraged to look up to the biggest trash talkers. We all want to be the basketball player that “posterizes” some cat then backpedals up the court talking smack to anybody who comes into sight. There’s trash talking all over the field on any play. But to use “but what did he say?” as a defense for a felony assault (punishable in the real world by 2-10 years in prison) is laughable. If you put your hands on somebody, that’s okay. That’s part of our DNA. But be a man about it... don’t say “b-b-b-but he called me....” Just take your punishment like a man... no excuses.

  12. I think thats a safe prediction. But I don't think Silsbee will hang 27 on Newton's defense. But this will be a test for Newton offensively and defensively. This will tell us how good they really are. I just happen to believe that they may even be better this year than last year. As hard as that is to believe. Understand, I think Silsbee is better than last year as well.and WOS and Gilmer as well.

  17. I know Crosby fans are disappointed with not even being able to break double digits for the first time since 2012(Rio’s first game), but look at the bright side. The 8 points Crosby scored on New Caney is probably 8 more than Prieto will be able to dial up in Brazoria County tomorrow. On the flip side I think the district is still weak enough to win. Probably not a good thing if you want Prieto gone though. With Crosby about to turn in an enrollment over 1,900 I would imagine this is the only year he has a shot at having a respectable record before the school board starts to hear rumbling. Was in Frisco watching my son play yesterday and you truly get the grasp of how far away the 5A schools in this coverage area are.

  18. Agreed. Tarkington has the 6th worst winning percentage in State history, they have won 26 percent of their games all-time... To put it in perspective, Hardin has won 34 percent of it's games and West Hardin 38 percent.

  24. Nah.... In life people are going to say things to you that you aren't going to like. You can either say something back (which is an appropriate response), or say nothing. But if you choose to bonk somebody over the head, whatever was said to you has no bearing on the punishment that you are about to receive. It's a concept that's lost on a lot of people. What if what he said was "Hey, 56.... watch those hands...." or maybe "Hey, 56.... keep your mouth shut... we don't need that...." or even "hey, 56.... you ain't ______, ain't never been _____, and your kids aren't ever gonna be ______" or even called him every slur known to man. It has no bearing on the punishment that the kid is gonna receive for his actions. It's a distinction that a lot of young men don't grasp until they're being judged by a jury of their peers. Mostly because adults will "teach" them that way. It doesn't matter what I call you. There are two lessons to learn... I can't just say anything to anybody and expect to never get smacked in the mouth over it. The second lesson is that IF you take exception to what somebody says to you and you decide to smack somebody, you're going to pay a heavy price.... and the fact that somebody talked ugly to you in no way diminishes the punishment that you are going to receive for your actions.

  27. I understand HD's victory was against Burkeville, which is not a good measuring stick by any means, but I was really impressed by the freshmen and the team as a whole. I don't think we are talking state champions by any stretch of the imagination, but I think we are going to get some wins this season. I do think HD takes this one and don't care by how much. If this class of freshmen stay together and stay healthy they are a special group, that's a big IF.

  31. This game will be a confidence builder, they will tackle better, and the Pups that are starting for the 1st time now have a taste of the big lights, and should be more settled. 42-14 Memorial.

  47. Darwin played great when his name was called this weekend. Roney Elam had the best game of his career with A&M and is finally going to be a starter for a full season. So, I see him having a big year. The Foster brothers had good games with McNeese this weekend as well. It is exciting watching and hearing about all the Newton boys doing well.

  48. Not an upset; this game was much closer than the score. If you were there, you know what I am talking about. This young team will be dangerous after the open week. By then, the full offense will be in. Young players will be contributing toward wins, instead of standing on the sideline. All of this will help them to deal with sudden change. (Special formations and personnel group are coming.) Don't sleep on these guys; they are changing the culture.

  49. I was impressed with Ned's running game, passing game and their defense. I think they will be very solid this year. I was impressed with same for WOS, but most impressed with their heart. I saw more heart last night than I did all of last season. To have 3 turnovers, several mishandled balls and have a come from behind 4th qtr win in a hostile environment is a pretty good deal.
