  1. Or maybe Josh will turn B.C. into a consistent winner like he did at OF.  Not like they were world beaters when he took over.  Neither are going to win state championships but I bet he improves the program.  And as I’ve stated many times, you won’t find a better AD.  I personally have nothing but gratitude for the man and hope he has all the success in the world, even if it’s for a rival.  Godspeed Coach Smalley.  Your work here was much appreciated.

Whitmire is a great coach and we are very glad to have him and his family who by the way are all at every game. Maybe he has done more with less in the past, but he has real talent here in Orangefield right now and there is more on the way coming from the JH groups. Our big 4 (Scales, Wrinkle, Smith, & Thomas) are shooting the ball 38.8% on the season as a team from three and are over. 50% from two, which is a testament to their level of talent as players. Scales is being face-guarded and the others are making the opposition pay for their gamble by knocking down open looks and capitalizing on their own mismatches. That should always be the plan, but can only be done when you have the talent to do so.

Bobcat basketball has for sure been battle tested in these last two tournaments this weekend and last, and Whitmire's knowledge for the game and motivational skills have no doubt been on display! Even though they are back to back Tournament Champions and (Big Sandy, & Bill Tennison), and have beaten several good teams, their most impressive victory probably comes in their overcoming a 10 point deficit with about 1:20 left on the clock in the fourth vs. Lamarque in the Semi this past weekend. That takes both excellent coaching strategy and talented execution.

I hope to see you at some games this year. I'm biased, but they are a real fun group to watch and I know you don't mind stating the truth in what you see.

My post wasn't meant as a sleight on any of the current players.  I've been very impressed with what I've seen so far.  But I do think Whitmire coaching is a very big advantage for them (and sounds like you agree). I've just seen him win a ton of games over the years when he had the worst of it, talent-wise.  Including a few against the Bobcats, unfortunately.

    I wouldn't sleep on Anahuac.

But, I also have Buna finishing 4th.

That was my dilemma as well.

Interesting note on Kountze.  Wasn't so long ago that they were pitching a fit about another kid in the district being an illegal transfer (although word on the street was they were doing East Chambers' bidding).  Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for the kid, a couple of the other superintendents in the district at the time had known the young man's father for practically his entire life.  To the point they let the two complaining schools know they were barking up the wrong tree and squelched it.  As anyone knows who knows me, I am all for letting the Kountze kids play.  But I am always amused by the hypocrisy in these sorts of thing.

I think tu deserved to be there. Committee got it right.

I was just talking in regards to the Bama talk already when they have a very good Washington team to face first.

Regardless of fan or not, Okie Lite is not a good team. That's just fact.

For sure.  If they had made a bowl game, I would have put them against the crappiest team I could find…

Personally, Bama shouldn't be on the minds. Washington will be a very tough task for tu. They will definitely test that horn secondary.

But, I do think it with be a Bama/tu National title game.

I agree.  They scare me more than Bama btw.  They are also a better team.  And Bama will more than have their hands full with Michigan.  I’m not sure the final won’t be chalk.

All Bama has to do is hurt the opposing team’s QB. It’s what they’re good at. A healthy Texas QB put Bama in their place in their house. No other SEC team did that. Not afraid one bit of meeting them again. I think Bama should be the one saying “Oh crap”, we have to face Texas again! Funny how people think Michigan can’t handle Bama after beating Ohio State. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I think the matchups are great and we should see some exciting football…..edge of your seat type. Win or lose, it will be entertaining.

It’s hilarious all the talk on social media is how Bama’s QB is better now, yada yada yada.  Which of course is the talking point of all casual fans.  The true football folks know Texas won because they won where most football games are won - with the big uglies   We whipped their tail in both lines of scrimmage,  I’m sure their younguns are better.  But our experienced fronts on both sides are still healthy and the best in the country.

I’m just speaking in general terms here and not for or against any school or coach. It sure helps when one has good players. As long as the wins keep rolling in, all is well.  Look out of the losses pile up.

That’s certainly true.  But both of these young men are extremely bright and energetic.  I haven’t seen KJ yet with Buna, but I can tell you the level of coaching (in a varsity game) I saw from Remi quite frankly surprised me. And I went in expecting a lot.  He is wayyy beyond his years and was doing more than I’ve seen an assistant do 99 percent of the time.  Reminded me a bit of a couple of current highly successful coaches when they were assistants at high profile teams in this area.  And by the way, kudos to Coach Whitmire for giving Connell that freedom. Of course, he more than anyone knows what he is capable of.

  8. I understand on paper it looked questionable.  But I knew what kind of basketball mind KJ has and his passion for the game.  And he’s always wanted to coach girls.  It was a diamond in the rough situation to me.

I also understand how well liked Remi deservedly is there.  But I think he will end up being thankful he stayed with boys.  I tend to believe things happen for a reason. He’s destined to be a very good one, maybe even a great one.

Brooks has been a disappointing hire to say the least. He had a poor record in Houston in the mid 90s. He seems like a good assistant but not head coaching material.

I've had nothing but good things to say about Tic in his Lamar days. They threw him in when Knight had the team all messed up and you can tell the man knows his stuff.

The sooner the AD moves on to a new hire the better for Lamar. Since Pat Foster left in '86 it's pretty much been 40 years of nothing but futility.

One from the good old days

Yeah, not sure what the thinking is when someone can’t win at a program like U of H.  Then again, not sure how much thinking Borne did in general.

I agree and it was in jest, it was pointing out that Big girl said there were only trace amounts in his system, as if that was ok.

Oh I knew.  That post wasn’t made for you.  I probably did a poor job of making a point but was trying to point out that “trace amounts” when it comes to fentanyl can be deadly amounts.

Agree, I said the same thing when it happened.  Floyd was an addict and had problems but Chauvin had a history of bad behavior and there’s no doubt in my mind Floyd would not have died THAT day if he hadn’t had a knee on his neck for a prolonged period of time.  It’s just a shame that everything has to be about race and as you pointed out and I have in the past as well,  the race hustlers only appear in situations like this and don’t care about the real issues that are responsible for many more deaths among young black men.

    So much this.

Mr. Floyd did strike me as someone that would be very responsible with his fentanyl use.

I know without question you say this is in gest but for those who are unaware, there is no such thing.  I hate the word "literally" because it is misused so frequently but the use of fentanyl and playing Russian Roulette are very close to the same thing,

Poor Lamar Mens basketball has fallen on hard times under Brooks. They competed much better under Price. Have they beaten one decent team this season and the answer is NO

Depending on the definition of "decent," I would say UTSA has the potential to be decent.  I watched both of the games with the Roadrunners, and they have some talent.  I thought they were pretty poorly coached.  It amazes me how virtually no adjustments are made in game.

And I was lambasted on here for defending Tic during his last season.  The Cards won two conference tournament games that year, one against a good Sam team before losing to Abilene Christian who went on to beat UT in March Madness.  For those keeping track, we haven't been back to a conference tournament since, after back to back last place conference finishes.

I stand by my statement that Coach Price was the third best coach in Lamar basketball history since the Pecker Tech days, behind the obvious two legends.  Of course, the great Marco Borne saw fit to fire the man (the day after telling him he would get to coach the last year of his contract).  In fairness, Borne did so on his way to rehab so who knows what his mindset was.  Needless to say, ended up being a final parting gift as he promptly followed Tic out the door after making a final hire or two.  Good news is I am fully confident our current AD.

To tell you the truth, they did call alot of fouls against the Tigers.

To tell you the truth, the Tigers tend to foul a lot.  It’s just part of how they play.  Some games they get by with more than others.  I prefer refs let more go, especially some “fouls” but Silsbee should almost always have more fouls than their opponents.

who is "y'all" ? Im stating facts. Im not a Silsbee guy. $a and 6a schools shouldnt even be allowed to play each other. But they do and a lot of times actually win the games. That is crazy. BMT has over 2,000 kids to choose from in each school lmao Silsbee has like what, 800?

Silsbee has NEVER shied away from bigger schools.  409, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas.  And more often than not, held their own and won more than a few.  Iron sharpens iron.  I wouldn’t be comfortable telling Joe Sigler how to put together his schedules.  His results have spoken for themselves.  It may not be for everyone, but I think it would be a bit foolish to say it hasn’t been a successful formula for Silsbee.

Coach Foster won his 700th game last Friday night against Woden.

Congrats to Coach Foster. One of the best coaches in the entire state. Great accomplishment.

You said a mouthful.  I’m not there are any better.  And there may not be a better coach in the country who is as “under the radar” as Foster.  Which I would bet is exactly how he prefers it.
