District 9-5A D1 Thread 2026/2027
Mr. Buddy Garrity and one other reacted to OlDawg for a topic
Did a little digging since we always have this question come up. Here's the history between La Porte & Port Arthur. La Porte vs Port Arthur History This year’s District 9-5A D1 game will be the 34th all time meeting between La Porte and Port Arthur. La Porte first faced Port Arthur Jefferson in 1922. This rivalry dates back 104 years! This season will be the 34th game played between the two cities. Port Arthur Jefferson closed in the late 90's and Port Arthur Memorial became the school in Port Arthur in 2002. Here is the breakdown of the last 33 meetings! LP PA 1922 0 20 1978 49 12 1979 24 22 1980 14 41 1981 7 41 1982 21 33 1983 28 14 1984 7 6 1985 17 20 1986 14 17 1987 21 14 1988 17 12 1989 35 20 1990 35 35 Tie 1991 27 22 1992 49 27 1993 37 0 1996 38 6 1997 31 3 2006 56 27 2008 56 28 2009 42 21 2010 37 13 2011 24 20 2011 6 34 2012 37 33 2013 45 47 2014 41 35 2015 13 62 2020 17 45 2021 27 50 2022 34 54 2023 27 38 2026 ? ? Current head-to-head overall: LP 19, PA 13. Since the opening of Memorial, the series is tied 7-7. It's been a series of 5 game runs broken up by alternating wins by both teams between the runs. PAM was the last team to beat LP in a district game in either 9-5A D1, or 11-5A D1 with a comeback win in Port Arthur in 2023.2 points -
OH BOY - U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23,000 jobs in July

Americans still waiting on their tariff check but instead it’s been sent to the big corporations that gouged us to compensate for the tariffs that were implemented. DOGE disappeared like a fart in the wind. Still waiting for the concept of a health care plan that would do away with Obamacare. Of the 250 years of debt Trump has created 25% of it in 5 1/2 years and he still has 2 1/2 years to go. Average Americans are still waiting on affordability but the Iran war took precedence. Great job on the border though.2 points -

31-24 LP if I remember correctly, LP stopped us at the 3 due to a fumble right after we had a 95yd run the play before and held on to win. Yeah I don't trust MaxPreps with really anything.1 point -

Some of those scores might be wrong, I know 2015 is cause we didn't even win that game and the game itself was a close one.1 point -

2026 Astros
AggiesAreWe reacted to myrecordwashorrible for a topic
Truly agree with your last point. Give a squad 2 pitchers that are top 15 in the league and 2 quality relievers. Everything else on the squad can be slightly below average and you've got a chance if you can just get in the playoffs. This is of course not the Astros squad this season just a thought in general.1 point -
2026 Astros
rupert3 reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
In mid May when Houston was 11 games below .500 (19-30), their team ERA reached a season high of 6.47, the worst in all of MLB. As of August 10, the Astro team ERA is 4.59, the lowest it's been since April. That's roughly 2 runs less. It's still 12th in AL but very much improved. Houston's offense since mid May has fallen off a bit when the Astros were batting .263 as a team and averaging around 5.3 runs per game which led the AL. Now the Houston offense is at .246 team batting average and averaging 4.7 runs per game. Both categories are still top 3 in AL. I stated back at the end of May that I was willing to give up some of that hot hitting if it meant the pitching would get better. I felt that was the key to get Houston winning. Well, Astro pitching has got much better and the hitting fell off some but low and behold they are above .500 and first in division. Pitching is what matters the most in MLB and nobody can convince me otherwise.1 point -

Nederland Bulldogs Football 2026 Thoughts
NHSBulldogFan reacted to Razor for a topic
Freshmen/9th grade is usually a strong indicator...JV less so IMO as a lot of the better sophomore and junior players may be on varsity instead, especially if the varsity team isn't as talented...on paper, Nederland should be more talented this year, but they have to show it on the field...tough pre-district can have 2 effects, strengthen the team or destroy their confidence...I am not at all against the way they want to play the game, but they have to get bigger and more physical and nasty up front (both sides of the ball) to execute on that type of gameplan...these games are far from meaningless and will help set the tone for the remainder of the season....as always, best of luck to the Bulldogs!1 point -

I can agree with that last statement. I have stated that the coaches and local DEC's have to do better. The problem with DISD is they have become a "you watch my back and I'll watch yours" district.1 point -
