Snapshot day (realignment)/CUT OFF NUMBERS RELEASED
Mr. Buddy Garrity and one other reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
King is 65% Hispanic. Crosby is about 50%. They’re filling up Barrett Station, not the $300k starter homes in Newport. The reason you don’t think King looks like that is because they have 3,600 kids and you don’t see any of them on the field. The closer our overall enrollment climbs to 3,000 the closer we get to the football playing demographic number of about 1,500 that we need to be competitive in 6A-D2. The completion of Sweetgrass Village and Barrett Crossing alone will push Crosby’s enrollment to about 2,800 once you include the new Newport homes. Going to suck for a while but Crosby is in an excellent position to be pretty competitive in 4-5 years.2 points -

Schools like SLC, Westlake, Vandergrift, etc. get around the overall enrollment with 1) money and 2) they have Hispanic populations down in the teens. For instance Highland Park’s Hispanic population is only 6.1% so their football playing demographics are very close to 6A competitive levels for Texas. The higher the Hispanic population the more kids you need to be competitive in 6A unless you can mitigate it with money. North Crowley has 3,049 kids but more importantly they have 1,706 black kids to go with solid coaching. That is an unreal amount for a metro school in Texas and similar to Summer Creek’s 1,722 but under Duncaville’s 1,888. With North Shore’s demographics they would suck at football if they didn’t have 4,000+ kids. If you dropped NS’ enrollment to Crosby’s and kept their same demographic makeup they would lose about 620 of their 1,038 black kids and not be near as competitive considering the talent pool where they get 95%+ of their starters would’ve cut in more than half. Desoto has a 5A enrollment but their school is 74% black so their talent pool is actually 1.5X that of North Shore. Very few schools the last 10-15 years have broken these rules. Cedar Hill is a prime example of what I’m talking about though. Stagnant to declining enrollment since their title game appearance in 2020 and are sub-.500 in the five years since. Not that having money or demographics mean everything but they’re hard facts to stray from when 6/8 teams playing for the 5A and 6A titles look exactly the same while the 5A-D1 state finals teams are extremely similar financially. Long story short, with Crosby’s demographics we’re going to need 2,800+ before we can consistently be competitive in 6A outside of the Houston and Pasadena districts.2 points -

I saw a video of Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) talking about gun control some years ago. He said their gun laws were stupid. You could still possess a firearm, but the gun frame had to be in one end of the house while the unloaded magazine had to be in the other end. How that can be enforced is beyond me. They had a government ban on certain guns and a buyback program. Obviously, their gun “control” failed miserably at Bondi.2 points

Numbers 4-7 are spot on. There’s no question many things were changed those first two years and the facts show it didn’t turn out for the better. Beginning last year they got back to more of what made Mustang football so successful and the results are speaking for themselves. He and his staff have earned more respect. I just feel very badly for the kids that played those first two seasons. All their young life they dreamed of wearing that silver hat and following in the footsteps of those that played before them and they were caught up in an experiment that went wrong. Many don’t actually place alot of the responsibility on Hickman and his staff for that, it mainly fell on the previous superintendent Ricky Harris. He wanted so badly to show the world that WO-S could be successful doing things differently and with a different style and we all seen how that turned out. Good luck to Hickman and his staff and the Mustangs on Friday. Orange is proud of yall.2 points -

District play starts Friday!!
Cu Chulainn reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
District play gets tipped off this Friday for three of our coverage area districts. 18-5A, 19-4A and 22-3A start district play. Here are some first district game key match ups: 18-5A I would consider all three games as key but the big game is Kingwood Park at Crosby. KP is the defending champ, Crosby was #2 seed last year. I think these are the two best teams again and the likely DC will come from these two. Other two games are Porter at Dayton and Splendora at West Fork. Porter/Dayton will be a battle while West Fork finally has a full roster to contend with for a playoff spot. Pasadena has the district off this Friday. 19-4A Again, all these games are key match ups but the marquee game is Hardin-Jefferson at Hamshire-Fannett. HJ missed the playoffs last year while HF was the runner up in district to Huffman. HJ has looked very solid over the last 6-7 games. They want to prove last year was a fluke. HF has lost several games the last week and are looking to right the ship. Other two games has Livingston at Liberty (Livingston looking really good, will be heavily favored in this one) and Shepherd at Tarkington. Tarkington finished 3rd last season and this will be a key start for them to keep that playoff streak alive. 22-3A IMO, this district is just a two horse race with East Chambers and Orangefield. So I expect blow out wins for those two this Friday. There are two other games that look interesting. Anahuac at Buna and Hardin at Kountze. Buna looks to be the third best team in this district and an early win over Anahuac can get them started to a good district season. Anahuac lost out to Buna last year for that final playoff spot. Kountze is really struggling this year and if they want a shot of making the playoffs, these are the games they have to win. Hardin is looking for some of that football mojo to rub off on the basketball court. IMO, this game is vital to each team. Let me hear your thoughts on any or all these match ups.1 point -
District play starts Friday!!
AggiesAreWe reacted to Cu Chulainn for a topic
You're usually dead on, so Id tend to agree with your assessment. I can't speak on 5A because I am not familiar with those teams mentioned above. I would think HJ would handle HF pretty well from what I have seen in their recently reported scores. I would also think Livingston is way too strong for Liberty. Livingston looked really good in the Bill Tennison Tournament and I was disappointed that our paths didn't cross. Shepherd wasn't strong at all when we saw them, so I'd have to believe Tarkington would be better. In 3A where we cut our teeth, I full on agree with you that it is Orangefield and EC at the top and everyone else will be fighting for those last two Playoff spots. It is somewhat confusing that EC didn't beat LCM by more than they did. I would have expected at least a win by 20 or more even if they were letting off the gas. LCM isn't strong this year at all, or at least when we saw them, they weren't. As far as Buna goes, they struggled a lot with Jasper when I watched their first half, and we destroyed Jasper in a cake walk last night. If that is any indication of Buna's strength, then I'd think they wont be able to even keep it close against us or EC, however they may be better than the rest of the District and that third yet very distant spot from 1 & 2 will be theirs. Coach Joubert in Kountze will make improvements as their season goes, but I just don't think they have the talent to actually compete. I further agree with you that Hardin could be interesting to see since they had such a good football year, but they haven't been strong at all on the court in the years that I have seen them play. Kirbyville could be a sleeper for the 3rd & 4th Playoff spot. They have a decent guard who can shoot (only goes right though), but they havent had much more through these last four years. I am not looking forward to District Play for us in Orangefield, its tough to stay sharp and be ready for a playoff run when your playing in blowout games. Yeah, it gives everyone a chance to play, but builds a false sense of reality of what is out there waiting on you in your EC's, Onalaska's, Mexia's, etc. I wish we could play some bigger games at tournaments or something during District play to stay sharp, but I guess its a problem all strong teams deal with. Kountze definitely would have had to find ways to stay sharp last year. Either way, Im looking forward to the battles this season has and I look for Orangefield and EC to really make some noise in the Playoffs, until they have to match up with us, lol.1 point -

Biden's library only has 4 million dollars left over from 2021 inauguration - didn't receive a DIME in 2024 - compared to Trump who has already raised 50 million for his.....What is going to be AMAZING and I can't wait for all the leftist tears, Obama is going to spend an estimated $850 million on his Library (3 times the original estimate), and not a word about overspending from his base or Republicans........YOU KNOW Trump is not going small and will out do Obama's library,,,,,It's gong to have to be big enough to put a Boeing 747 in it....lol Can't wait for the outrage They also don't acknowledge facts....like that Trump has a better approval rating than Obama same time second term.....1 point -

Let’s not be selective on choosing scripture. Remember these? Matthew 7:3-5 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Matthew 18:21-22 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.1 point -

Yes, all of the 6A schools with under 3000 enrollments have not been able to compete. The list includes Southlake Carrol, North Crowley, Guyer, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Longview, Willis, Vandergrift, Westlake, to name a few. Hopefully those schools along with "Crosby" can close the enrollment gap and find a way to be competitive in 6A.1 point -

I think it’s time for a different way to count the kids. The state knows exactly how many kids are in each school because they send “x” amount of dollars per kid, per day to the school districts. So, by knowing how much money is sent to the school districts you would know how many kids they have in attendance.1 point -
What a wonderful tribute to a great leader of young men of which I was once one. Why harsh words in the time of death?
Porter reacted to thetragichippy for a topic
Here is my 2 cents that probably means absolutely nothing.... First, This is one of those things I wish he would of kept his mouth shut.... It would have probably served him better. Someone's death is not the time to get the last word..... However, Trump has been delt some bad hands since 2016. He has been accused of being a Nazi, Racist, Pedophile , mentally unfit, crook and probably more I don't remember. There is now evidence, and pretty good evidence that he was set up to fail by the Obama administration, the Hillary administration started the Russia hoax, Biden admin and certain states used Lawfare to try and bankrupt him and send him to jail, and at his age, would of been a life sentence.....and in this political climate there was 2 assassination attempts on his life, one being an inch from ending his life..... Reiner was a very loud critic of Trump, he helped launch a committee to investigate the Russian hoax (and never admitted it was a hoax), called him unfit to serve, called him a Fascist, claimed Trump was gong to end Democracy, wanted to charge Trump with TREASON (death sentence), wanted Trump to spend the rest of his life in prison..... There was some bad blood between the two, and if we are all being honest, our opinions of people do not change when someone dies. Again, he should of kept his mouth shut, but I can see his motivation to speak out.1 point -

To all my stangs brothers and sisters on here.its great to be back in Texas!!;great win I see.wos#1 fan probably one of the insightful people you may know on here.brings me to a scripture prov 12:1 to learn, you must love discipline;it is stupid to hate correction.it leads to wisdom!! With that been said HH has truly took on the assignment head on and won.it real doesn't matter what happens in the state game because he has already over achieved.cant blame someone for trying something different!! Even he will tell you he got back to what the kids know and the discipline that came with it.first few years he was trying to hard to fit in with the kids.where in practice kids pretty much did what they wanted too.ive seen it with my own eyes.i have even seen a player dad want to fight him because the kid lied and said a coach told him that he was the worse player in w.o history.and what no one on here knows.I know him really well and talk with him to leave that alone.so, HH didn't deserve that.!!at the end of the day the community wasn't exactly wrong about something's.even then instead of folding he went out and got an unsong hero who no one gives any credit too.is the new DC who is in sink on what they need to run on defense.so, no one on here could say they saw this coming!? #4 Jefferson has always been different every since little league.and his cousin Terrance Brown #34 helping him along the way.so, HH has to get a lot of credit once again.he learned not to change things just add too it.and that works. DRH and CT discovered something that brought the best out of orange,TX kids. the thing about this if you never saw the program from practice, games,to Saturday meeting and so on.and listening to what the board members had to say.some are truly outsiders watching the game.and the biggest one is never played here.a pair lips will say anything!!
