What everyone is forgetting is ........ Since the first game of the season once Silsbee gets up by 2 touchdowns you are going to get a dose of run the ball only. So IF we wanted to run up the scores we could have. Silsbee QB could have 5,000 yards if we would have done that so Silsbee #'s are nowhere on paper what they could be if we would have kept our foot on the pedal and no to mention we put in 2nd and 3rd string defensive players to get them next man up ready. I cant tell you how many games that Silsbee QB didnt even throw a pass in the 2nd half of games. So you can look at stats or on paper and throw that out the window. I think it might be whoever has the ball last and it might be a 6-man football score at the end of the game. Silsbee will be ready and the defense has had its back to the goal line several times this year and they would bend but they didnt break and made some stops when they needed to. This should be an instant espn classic but i see my Tigers eating this week !!!

Brandon Prouse and his staff have quietly been building a program in the 'Ville. He has changed the culture since he arrived. These are river bottom kids who've had many obstacles to overcome between the 2 River floods and countless hurricanes back to back to back. They have a certain toughness and he knows how to Coach that dog... Discipline is on full display as the kids enter/exit the field, hat under the right arm and single file down the sidelines. After the game the entire team and coaching staff went to the 50, raised their hats for the opposing school's song in a show of respect and then all huddled up and prayed together. That's exactly how it should be. Congratulations to The Pirates team, staff and community!

That is sometimes surprisingly close to the truth. Many years ago I was training a rookie officer. We were doing an investigation and speaking with an older woman that spoke very little English. My rookie was hitting her with closed end questions that could be answered with a yes or no answer. I was trying to help him but he kept on with his investigation. I finally had enough and had to put a stop to his questioning of the woman. I pulled him to the side and said this woman has no clue what you were saying and you are writing down bogus information. The rookie’s response was, but she’s answering me. Yeah… because she doesn’t know much English, is speaking with a person in authority and thinks it makes us happy to agree with us by smiling and saying yes a lot. So….. I said watch this, and I started speaking with a woman. I asked her something like, did you kill your mother last night? Yes! (Smiling and nodding) Did you bury her body in the backyard? Oh yes! (Smiling) Just to make sure, you did murder your mother last night and buried her behind the house? Yes… yes! Okay, let’s go find someone in the neighborhood who can translate for our investigation.

Okay, Genius. Which of your practice squad running backs is gonna line up at wideout against your first team secondary to mimic Silsbee’s WRs? Who from the practice squad (or first team offense for that matter) is gonna be airing it out this week to prepare your corners? Have you ever seen a turtle on its back? Its bellville man. They have a good record and a good team but they can be beat. Just like Silsbee can be beat. You make it sound like Bellville is IMG academy and Silsbee has no chance due to Bellville D1 talent across the whole team.

Nov. 18/ Championship Game: Westbrook (9-2) 48 Willow Creek 33 Final

Here’s why the vidor game is at least semi-relevant. Part of what makes the slot-t so hard to defend is it’s a novelty. Most 4A teams go seasons without facing it. So it is kind of a big deal that they’ve seen 4 quarters of it from an okay team running it. That’s a much better look at it than a week of the scout team trying to mimic it. It’ll give them a leg up vs. anyone else who Bellville has played. A much larger leg up over those teams will come from Silsbee’s talent and speed on both sides of the ball. Bellville answered a lot of questions for me the last two weeks. It’s clear they’re really good. But they haven’t played anyone close to as good as Silsbee, so looking at results against common opponents is about as valuable as going by what happened last season. It should be a great game. I’m gonna go with the tigers just because they have a lot more flexibility on offense, but obviously anything can happen.

My opinion is any team can be beat. I think its going to be a good close ball game. Im going for Silsbee Ofcourse. The reason people are going for Silsbee more than Bellville is because its Setxsports. I dont count Bellville in setx. So they are going to take the local school over a outsider in most cases

Thanks for the smartass reply. I know enough about football to know adjustments were not made to improve what was being done. You don’t stick to your pregame plan when it’s no longer working. It’s strategic, not rushing with no technique to attempt to stop an elite player. It’s not little league coaching to have a strategy to slow down the best player on the field, and I can tell you taking out an opposing teams best player by keying on him with or without the ball is nothing new. Yes, the letdown was the problem, but with no answer. So yes, back to the drawing board for the underclassmen left for for next season. This particular senior class has been exceptional every year and at all sports. Blowing that kind of lead should be criticized from anyone watching and I can guarantee the coaching staff will second guess many things they did in the 2nd half. So as a fan who has supported them for many years, I have an opinion. I’ve have praised the coaching staff at BH from to middle school and up compared to other schools in our district. Unlike many school in our district. The kids leaned much about the game at the lower levels. But they’ll never advance any further than 2nd to 3rd round by not being able to finish off a good team why they are down. Just like in basketball, BH will continue to make the playoffs year and year out. With the money being paid at all three major boys sports, the expectations are higher to get deeper in the playoffs. I know Abseck has his sights on nothing less than a state championship in football. Criticism from any media or keyboard warriors (myself included) comes with the territory and is expected. I was one of the ones who jumped the gun criticizing Richland on how they were undefeated and now eating crow and reminded of a lesson I learned a long time ago. I shoulda known better. but my passion for the game got the best of me when BH was pouncing on such a good team. I quickly gained respect for namely the two best players on either team. #1 and #51 will be playing Saturdays somewhere and I’ll be a fan. I’m glad I could add to the entertainment and critique on the forum. I’m still in shock!

If it comes down to those things I feel like Bellville would have the edge. Bellville rarely commits penalties for what it’s worth.

Well, you’re right that the game would still be played and maybe the MAJORITY of coaches don’t put much thought into accommodating the band, drill team, or fans when making decisions like this but that’s not how we roll at PNG!!

Cuero does pretty well against run first teams. I’ll predict Cuero by 14 with a couple of deep tds thrown to our receivers and our QB eating up that secondary on the short passes

Yeah, I'm not looking past MLC, just looking over at the other games. This should be a good game, but I think if PNG keeps playing like they've been playing then they'll take it to them. I'm just glad that LC is the one that's ranked #1. PNG already played the team that was ranked #2, and won that one, 7-0.

Possibly... But what the heck, Ill provide some substance. You are correct, mostly, on Miller not visually standing out EVERY PLAY of the game. This is what makes him a great player and teammate. Also, why Silsbee is a balanced offensive team. He will rarely catch 10+ receptions, have 200+ receiving yards, multiple TDs, etc. His Junior year will probably be his best statistical year, for obvious reasons. Its no coincidence that Silsbee had 3000+ YDs rushing AND 2800+ Passing YDs as a TEAM. Biggest indicator of his ability to control & change the game is TDs. He makes the play when its in his hands to do so. Silsbee Tigers scored 80+ TDs last year... Dre'Lon Miller had 30% of those TDs. Execution of his ability is why he is the best player on the field and few people see the effectiveness because it is rarely accompanied by bright lights. jmo

I agree with what you’re saying about choosing the 1st team and then picking the superlatives from that. The thing is they wouldn’t get the superlatives they did if they did that. Everyone who watched this district knows exactly who the best at each of those positions were this season. Probably going to ruffle some feathers but it’s the truth. Give MVP and coach of the year to the top team. The rest should be based on actual individual performances not their team’s record. Then this all looks a lot different is all I’m saying.
