2023 Pick 'ems - Weekly Results/Discussion
TrojanMoJo and 2 others reacted to WOSdrummer99 for a topic
Step right up ladies and gentlemen. The 2023 WOSgrad Pick'ems competition will begin soon. Everyone is welcome to compete. It's a 17 week battle with no bye week. I plan to only have Friday night games. But with the talk of official shortages already these games may change to Thursday or Saturday. Keep a close eye on the Lock Times each week. I'll make an announcement here if I'm moving the times up. And if you find yourself not making the deadline. Send me a PM with your picks and I'll count the games that haven't been played. Hopefully that means "NO FREEBIES". Last year we had a total of 7, with only 8 pts separating the top 5. Also if anyone notices a mistake please let me know as soon as possible. Looking forward to another year with a local team finishing up at AT&T. Good luck to all fans and teams this season.3 points -

Entering the final week of preparation. The next 17 weeks will fly by much faster than waiting for the last 17 to pass. Good luck to everyone. Prayers for a safe season for all these student athletes and all supporting organizations as well. Let's not forget, without the trainers, cheerleaders, and bands 🥁. Friday night lights just wouldn't be the same.3 points -
Lol, me, CT and a couple school board members sat on the other side.and everything that Vidor and w.o done wrong he said it bf it happened.ima say this and leave it alone with the talent on this team and that's coming back next yr.if we still had him for those years ik for a fact we would've made a trip to Dallas. The kids are truly playing hard no matter what is called on either side of the ball.3 points

After seeing these first couple scrimmages the three positives I see: 1. I think the QB play will be a strength this yr. Turner seems to have turned the corner. I hope he is as much of a leader on the field as he is a competitor. 2. I saw the defensive coaches make adjustments after Vidors first series that went 2 plays and 70 yards. After that they got into the same defensive alignment wed been running against that offense for years with success. That was encouraging to see and the Vidor O didn't get much after that. Adjustments are a necessity and something we didn't see much last year. 3. The offensive and defensive lines are big. We've been needing some size up front. I feel it's hurt us in years past with our lack of size up front in late rounds. I don't know how good they are, and we certainly need to improve in our run game, but that usually develops into the season. Lots of work still to do and not knowing how good the teams you've scrimmaged are really makes it tough to know much more.3 points

Kville teacher: trying it in a small town
bullets13 and 2 others reacted to WOSdrummer99 for a topic
"Keep Kirbyville Wierd" doesn't sound right. I wouldn't be surprised if someone puts a for sale sign in they's yard. That doesn't sound right either. What pronoun do they prefer? It doesn't matter. The only preference that matters is that of the parents of these students. It's ultimately a decision for them to make about how they want their children to learn. We need more church based schools for these students. I'm sure there are some teachers in the district that may disagree with all this too. Wouldn't that be an simple solution? Too many of the problems we're facing today could be because of the lack of God in our public schools.3 points -
I think PNG ended up with three touchdowns and a field goal. LCM, two touchdowns. Both teams looked pretty sharp, with advantage to png on both sides of the ball. Png defensive and offensive lines are huge, physical, and look game-ready. LCM largely didn’t move the ball against PNG’s 1s, but their passing and run game opened up in the second half. Both teams’ qbs looked good. LCM has some good size, well-coached, and they have a couple fast running backs. LCM defense isn’t as good as their offense, but they overall look pretty good. Png looks like a mostly well-oiled machine, but there were a few mistakes like dropped passes, and a couple missed tackles. PNG’s qb 2 had a couple of really nice passes completed in the second half. Png qbs threw a couple ints.3 points

Recently my 16 year old grandson and I took the master cylinder off of his 62 F100 into a major parts store. The counter guy asked "what is that thing?" I didn't even answer. We just went farther down the road to a local store. The counter guy asked me "Boy, I haven't seen one of those in quite a while. How early in the 60s is it?" Makes a lot of difference to me.2 points -

Pressbox Changes at Nederland
KF89 and one other reacted to PhatMack19 for a topic
I don’t really care about the press box, but the schools look like crap. Piece milled together and none of it matches or flows. Yes it’s better than it was, but still a short sighted attempt to do something instead of doing it right. I was blown away this week walking into Port Neches Intermediate. It’s truly state of the art. PNG tore down 6 schools and built 4 brand new. I know they have a bigger tax base, but they spend money the right way thinking ahead for the future. I still don’t wear purple, but I’m thankful my kids do.2 points -

Yes, yes , and yes. QB's leadership role has been enhanced by a WOS legend. It was an honor to meet that man and shake his hand last night. As long as we have community members like him and my friend @dj, who are committed to continue to program's success. We cannot fail. WOS 112%1 point -

I don’t care what adults do with their lives. Let them be who they want to be. That said, I don’t believe that parents should be forced to explain about trans people to their children because of something they learned at school, whether it be something crazy in the curriculum, or a teacher transitioning in front of their eyes in the classroom. There are places where this would fly, but small town east Texas is not one of those places.1 point -
Yeah, Freshman on varsity isn’t new at Ned. They are just grabbing at anything and hoping they are right.1 point

Man, I think PNG is in a good position to make multiple finals appearances in the next 5/6 years if their talent isn't too cyclical. If Crosby hadn't collapsed in the semis against Liberty Hill that district would've had three consecutive state finalist. I think PNG or FB Marshall make it back to state this year again. LH has owned region 4 the last three years and will most likely win it again this year. They're one of the fastest growing schools in the state and will be 5A-D1 next year though. Once they leave you're down in CC Flour Bluff and SA Alamo Heights territory. Teams that I don't even think PNG would've needed to be as good as they were last year to donkey stomp. PNG's enrollment is relatively stagnant meaning they're going to be locked in to D2 for the foreseeable future. We all know D2 is significantly easier but PNG has a real homegrown D2 enrollment unlike SOC who has a similar enrollment but would need 2,500+ kids to field a team like that without the transfers, so PNG is right where they should be. Coach Willis told us at the parent meeting that teams need three things to be successful; 1. Community, 2. Players, 3. Coaches, in that order. Hard to argue in D2 that PNG isn't right up there in all those categories.1 point -

to be honest, PNG has or should have raised the bar for ALL golden triangle teams, even PAM. i say PAM even more so because even though PAM beat the breaks off them, PNG won the "race", "fight" or whatever analogy you want to use and was there at the big dance. while the rivalry isn't strong like MCM, it's beginning to rise. i know some PAM fans will point to PNG had an easier road. well from what i'm hearing and seeing, next realignment PAM might be D2 and i don't wanna hear no excuses. PNG proved my point many others stated in the past i was being sooooo negative. PNG brought in someone FROM OUTSIDE OF THE AREA with a winning formula, the kids bought into it and boom success. Keep going with the good ol boy system(TJ grads) and we gonna stay stagnant and fester. IF PNG GOES AT LEAST 5RDS DEEP, LOOK FOR A CRAP LOAD OF TRANSFERS FROM PAM TO BE AT THE REZ. I SAID IT HERE FIRST!!!1 point
