    Bring the County!!

I have tried to explain a million times. It’s not arrogance, cockiness, or disrespect. It’s simply SWAG. I started out my school days on an election year. The teachers gave us a choice to be republican, democrat, or independent. I chose Independent simply because it allowed me to wear an I on my shirt all day, of course it was crayoned purple. It’s said we are taught Cherokee day 1. That’s actually a myth, we all knew it by heart before the alphabet. Most will never understand, I have even heard of us being called the “The Purple Cult”… once again, it’s just misunderstood. Ironically, our rivals understand it the best. That’s why you see all of mid county supporting our games. I grew up in the 80s, hearing about the 70s, in a time we were led by a great guy, just not a good coach. That all changed in 89. In came Danny Malone. And he brought that SWAG back, Burnett carried it on, Fairclothe carried the torch, now Joseph continues the tradition. So what started out as playing football at recess, dreaming of being an Indian, ends with a shot at a SC this Friday. We are no longer a powerhouse, we are not a place people want to move or transfer to, we are just PNG Indians. Not the biggest, fastest, or strongest. Just a team playing with heart and support. These kids are dogs, they come to play and don’t quit. Always the underdog, yet playing week 16. A proud community, wanting a SC and that attendance record back. So for all of you who don’t understand us, we don’t expect you too. But we will say this, come be part of the family Friday night. You won’t regret the experience. A big joke on this board is ATMOSPHERE…. Come be part of it Friday, and make history. You won’t regret it. No matter what team or color you represent or bleed, we are one big ole family this Friday. Peace…. love…..

  2. The X-Factor, IMO, is Gary Joseph, who now has a lot of free time to crunch SOC film and help his son game plan to stop their offensive attack. PNG just picked up a additional assistant coach for this one. I really think this will make the difference.

  3. Someone please find WOS a new head coach. These people need to win asap

  4. I think the "x-factor" players in this game are: Jayvon Thomas & Billy Walton for SOC and Shea Adams for PNG. I've been talking about that Adams kid since the start of the season. If PNG wins it wouldn't be surprising if he made the clinching play, vice versa with the 2 studs for SOC I named.

  5. From the cover story in this year's DCTF magazine: Jason Todd is South Dallas born and raised. He graduated from Dallas Lincoln and played under legendary coach Reginald Samples. Every day, Todd walks the hall on campus where the image of his grandfather, former SOC principal Frederick Todd, hangs above him, a constant reminder of his loyalty to the area. Ward is a Dallas Kimball graduate. Defensive line coach Dominic Spencer is a Dallas Skyline product. Running backs coach Keith Davis is a graduate of Dallas Hillcrest. You get the picture. There’s nothing they pride themselves on more than representing the area in which they were raised. Which makes the program’s nickname, given by Todd, all the more resonant — The Mecca. In the Muslim faith, Mecca is the birthplace of the prophet Muhammad, where the Islamic faith originated and where every Muslim is eventually called back to at least once in their life. “You had to pass through SOC because it was first in Oak Cliff and Oak Cliff is the biggest part of Dallas,” Ward said. “As everybody from Oak Cliff had spread, somebody within their roots, if they’re from Dallas, went to SOC: Granny, mama, uncle or whoever.” So basically what they were saying is SOC is the birthplace of what you see now in programs like Duncanville, DeSoto, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, etc....a ton of those players families are from Oak Cliff and have a tie to SOC in some way

  6. I feel pretty good about this game. PNG is hot rolling into the championship game. Big crowd will help and that's what they'll have. It's what it's all about. SOC is a great team. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. And I think that's what going to happen Friday night. It's going to take a balanced attack to do it. Establish the run early along with a good defense and you will win this game. PNG BY 10 POINTS

  7. What a beautiful site to see when that marching I goes marching down the field playing Cherokee in AT&T stadium. last person leaving PN/G turn at the lights.

  8. The key will the play in the trenches, but we can’t ignore this will be the best secondary we’ve faced all season. It’s going to be TOUGH to get down the field. If PNG can match them physically, I have no doubt the coaches can make winning adjustments. Just hope the stage isn’t too big for us.

  13. 14-0 Duncanville by 13, who's set to play in the 6A D1 State championship, 13-2 DeSoto by 1, who's set to play in the 6A D2 state championship game this week. Their "bad loss" was Lancaster 21-3, who could've easily made a run to state this year as well, but lost a close one in the 3rd round to undefeated Reedy. It's also worth noting these were SOC's first three games of the season. I'm rooting for PNG, but their schedule doesn't hold a candle to the one that SOC has played. SOC also beat Parish Episcopal, who won the TAPPS D1 championship, and beat the likes of Aledo, China Spring, and LBJ Austin this year. Their playoff run included wins over Dallas area schools Lovejoy, Midlothian Heritage, Melissa, and Argyle. It could be (reasonably) argued that PNG is the 7th or 8th toughest opponent on SOC's schedule this year. That said, PNG has been playing incredible football, and they've earned their right to play this game. While I don't think PNG would've advanced through the side of the bracket that SOC did, they're playing well enough right now that if things go right they can beat anyone. I'm definitely pulling for them!

  17. I predicted a close game with LH and PNG shredded the Slot-T. I think this will be a close game with SOC. PNG will make adjustments and come away with the “W” and State Championship. GO INDIANS! YOU GOT THIS!!

  33. I hope SOC tries to man cover #10 and #18. Also, our LB core is gonna have a good day. SOC doesn't seem to believe in lead blocking. After watching numerous games, if I didn't know records etc and just had to choose from film, I'd play SOC before I played FBM or LBJ again Should be a good one! Definitely a winnable game if PNG brings what they are capable of.

  34. I had to google "x-factor" .... "A strong but unpredictable influence." It could be anybody, offense or defense, or both, or even a special teams player. It's been this way all season. If I had to pick one, I could easily go along with Shea. But I think that if Cole has a good game then the Indians will win it. If I had to put the game on one guy's shoulders it would be Cole, and I'm praying that he will have a good game this Friday.

  35. True story… I took my kid to kindergarten round-up at Van Buren in Groves and they handed each of the kids a purple/white feather headband and then asked them all if they wanted to be an Indian or a Bulldog. There was a right and a wrong answer. These were pre-k kids.

If the kickoff is returned for a touchdown, the penalty is assessed either on the try or on the succeeding kickoff, at the option of the home team. [S27] In addition, Officials shall charge a team timeout at the start of each quarter the illegal jerseys are worn, or a foul for delay of the game if all timeouts have been used.

  45. I'm trying to teach you how to fish instead of just feeding you a fish. But I'm tired of watching you struggle so I'll give you the answers. lol Here are the current enrollment #s for 8th grade thru 12th grade for 22-23 school year. 8th (335) 9th (336) 10th (315) 11th (263) 12th (316). We all know these #s fluctuate. Take the senior class, for example. They have 316 this year but they had 358 their 9th grade year. My point is that if we replace the 12th grade enrollment with the 8th grade enrollment, snapshot next year would be 1249. I would expect the new UIL cutoff # to be around 1330 and that is being conservative. Even if the cutoff # stayed at 1299, Lumberton still remains in 4A. Facts don't care about anyone's feelings.
