  1. Spreading the floor to get the defense to come out and guard when you have the lead is not the same thing as to what Lumberton ran last Friday night. They never had the lead. To hold the ball while trailing by 10 points is not trying to win the game. It's just doing what they can from not getting beat 123-62 like last time. That's really all that was about.

    PNG Hire

This was the best possible outcome for us, and I am very optimistic about PN-G's future. Let the fans of Nederland, Memorial, WO-S and so on say what they want about it. I think this will prove to be an outstanding selection in the future. And don't be surprised if you see a Dodge hanging around in Mid-County at some point next fall. šŸ˜Ž

    PNG Hire

Everyone seems to be half glass empty on this hire. I think it might be a home run. He has a hell of a tree of communication. He has been around winning cultures. He is a phone call away for advice from several legit SC winning coaches. He is defensive minded, young, and bringing in a good OC. He came highly recommended, and due to the fact he was out of coaching a few years, was available. Versus what could have been, I think they possibly made a great choice. Time will tell, but i am not sure why all the unrest with all the rah rahs. Jump on board with this guy and you might all be surprised…….. What people seem to forget, is with RJ, if we would have had a defense, and not all loaded up on offense, we could have made a run. For all the BF lovers, all we heard was MB only made a run because of Dustin Long… Well he made that run when BF couldn’t with RJ…Are we SC contenders… nope…. But this could be a good hire. New blood, comes from winning cultures, and will get great advice from people in the know of TX HS Football. Maybe another Danny Malone here. BF is gone, let’s move forward.

    PNG Hire

I pray the new Head Coach is treated with respect & given the opportunity to prove himself in the position. I have supported this program for all my 57 years, and will continue to be a PNG Indian, as long as I live!!! I am so glad we went out & got a coach to build on a winning tradition. After all the most important thing is that : WE ARE THE PNG INDIANS!!!

  11. That is not a new innovation. That is trash. That's why it went viral. it makes the team look bad, lowers morale among the players. Nobody wants to duck into a huddle and appear scared.

  12. Proud PN-G alumnus...let's rally...support the new hire and give him an opportunity to be successful. I'm disappointed that PN-GISD parted ways with Coach Faircloth. What's done is done. Time to support the new leader of the Tribe, Coach Joseph. Let's not nit-pik him to death before he puts on a purple shirt. Give him shot. No "For Sale" signs in his yard when he makes a wrong call. Make him feel welcomed to our Tribe. That's part of our commitment to Honor, Pride, and Tradition. We carry those core values with us after Pre-K through 12th grade. Welcome Coach Joseph. Honor, Pride, and Tradition. Go Indians. Peace. Yes, I know the fans/alums of Nederland, PAISD, and others laugh at the culture of PN-G. I get it. But, we are who we are. Peace.

    Lamar basketball

Not a graduate of Lamar, but I am from Port Arthur/Groves (PN-G alumnus). I know several LU alums that have outstanding jobs/careers. The engineering and nursing programs at LU are strong, well thought of, and professionals across Texas and Louisiana know about Lamar and those programs. Hang in there with LU men's basketball. Coach Brooks will find the right kids and turn the corner with the program. I believe in Coach Brooks. You will not find a better all-around human being. He's a teacher and role model. He does not cheat or cut-corners. He will teach your kids to be solid young men. No, I'm not related to him and I am not his agent. Met him at UH and I have been a fan ever since.

  17. From Coach Matthews: "Preseason changed a little bit. I feel like it will challenge us and prepare us for our district. Four out of the five preseason, (pre-district), opponents made the playoffs and several of them went to the second round". "Being in a six school district presented some challenges in making up the schedule. I did not want to schedule a team we may face in the second round because I did not want to give them a chance to look at us"

    Silsbee at LCM

I can see this. This game means nothing to Silsbee. They have already wrapped up an outright district championship. I can see Sigler only playing his starters and key reserves minimum minutes these last two games. In fact, I bet we don't see much more than a quarter for the starters in the last game next week against Vidor on Senior Night. This is a very important game for LC-M. A win can keep them somewhat in play for the 2nd seed but would need Vidor to beat Orangefield tonight. But, the Bears are down a starter. Their PG is out for a few weeks.

I do not agree with how Coach Faircloth was treated, but moving forward I think PNG has a lot to be excited about with this hire. I also think having Coach Dodge involved in the entire process will be money very well spent!

  24. I was eating my cheerios and watching the CBS morning show and they brought on Brian Flores, the recently fired head coach of the Miami Dolphins. For those that don't know, Flores is African American and fired after having a 10-win season in 2021. He was brought on to discuss the multi-million dollar lawsuit that he filed yesterday against the NFL, Dolphins, and pretty much anybody else accusing all of "racism." It's basically the Colin Kapernick lawsuit with the names switched out. If you'd been paying attention you'd know that Flores was a disgruntled employee in Miami who couldn't work with franchise QB Tua Tagovailoa. If you skim the pleadings you'll also realize that the coach had a problem with ownership regarding the direction of the team. He's also included the Broncos org in his lawsuit for not hiring him as well. The NFL, as it puts, is racist. I didn't notice where Flores had problem with the fact that AAs millionaires make up the majority of NFL rosters. I guess he's willing to let that slide.... It's also laughable that of the 9 coaches fired after the season, he was the only one was fired racially, I guess... because the rest weren't black. My scenario is this... if you have a position to fill, you don't want to fill it with friends, family, or anybody closely affiliated to anybody we work with... that person becomes untouchable regardless of their performance. If you hire a client/friend's kid who turns out to be worthless, you can't fire them without damaging your company financially or politically. It's why a lot of companies don't want to publicize their openings. If you have to choose between two candidates and one of which is practically guaranteed to sue you on allegations of racism if it doesn't work out, which one should you hire? This is what happens when you hire people because of their race. It doesn't matter that you hired them in the first place, the fact that you fired them proves you were a racist all along. Now pay up. You can't make this crap up. Race relations are worse now than they've been in my lifetime.

  25. None of the players on that team come from Independence Heights, or Studewood, the area around BT Washington. At least none of the players that matter. Kenneth Lewis transferred in from CE King. Their best guard came from Humble. McDermott from Heights aka Reagan. That team is basically a Greater Houston all star team. But the UIL lets it slide. I wish I knew what really happened at Westfield.

Since the Indian faithful said BF couldn't win a State Title because PNG doesn't have any athletes, then, well, it's not looking good for him! 😃 PS -- did he know there weren't any athletes when he applied?! PSS -- But, I guess there are a few of us who have faith in him! Good luck to the new coach!

  29. Now that the national organization of high school ball has endorsed a 35 second shot clock for the 22/23 season we're going to see more states adopt it. Texas, being a big and important public school basketball state will come under a lot of pressure from inside and outside. I think it's inevitable certainly by the end of the decade. I say go ahead and do it now. Start a pilot with 6A district and post season play and then let it filter down. I still say that the kids will love it, the parents and fans will love it and eventually even the coaches will love it. The referees won't love it but they'll adapt. The staff running the clock won't love it but they'll adapt as well. I think a shot clock adds an interesting level of complexity to the game that high school kids will enjoy. And really, 35 seconds is am eternity for some schools. Of course it's easy for me to say being a Silsbee fan. The Tigers get antsy if they don't get a shot off before 15 seconds - 3 to get it down the court and 10 or 12 to find somebody open.

  41. If any PNG fans ever pull that ā€œFor Saleā€ bull crap on a coach again I’m cheering for Nederland. I’m sure this new coach will be great. Maybe better in some ways. And the coaching tree and relationships he comes from aren’t nothing. And with the whole ā€œTodd Dodge consultant to help build a cultureā€ thing the board is doing, maybe he’ll be successful putting a program in place similar to what’s at Katy and Westlake and Southlake. Good luck to him.

  42. What did Coach Mitchell do that was so bad? His players were playing within the rules of the game. Are there people on here that are jealous they didn't think of the strategy first? Any good coach, which Coach Mitchell is an excellent coach is going to do what gives their team the best chance to be successful. So, why is everyone faulting him for doing what he felt would give his team a chance to win the game? In the early 2000's Huntington boys and Woodville boys played to a 5-3 final, because Woodville sat in a zone and Huntington held the ball waiting for them to come out and play man. I wonder if people would of blasted the Woodville coach for sitting in a zone if this site had existed back then? He did what he thought would give his team a chance to win. The next time they played that season Huntington won by double digits. What Coach Mitchell was doing has the same concept as what Woodville did many years ago. If you don't like the strategies he uses then go get a teaching and coaching job and lets see what you do strategy wise when you play a team like Silsbee. I give many kudos to Coach Mitchell for his strategy against Silsbee and what he has accomplished so far at Lumberton in his time there. His teams will continue to to be competitive and give people fits.
