  3. After giving it some thought and speaking with some other folks in the business (along with some coaches), I have made the decision to do team rankings of our coverage area teams here at SETXsports. I haven't done them in a few years but I think it's time to bring them back. I am not going to pretend to know everything about every team we cover here but I think I can put out a pretty accurate assessment of our teams. I will reach out to others (including some coaches) for input on some teams. These rankings won't be the "end all, be all" and I fully expect negative feedback from week to week. I have tough skin and invite any feedback to help give a more accurate ranking. These will be SETXsports rankings but in the end, it's just my opinion. Whatever that's worth. I will be doing the 3 poll system. Top 10 6A/5A, Top 12 4A/3A (more teams in this group), Top 10 2A/1A/Private. I thought about doing top 12 for all three and bring back the Dirty Dozen Rankings label. But for now, 10,12,10. I will post a Pre Season ranking on Tuesday, November 10. But, I will not follow up the next ranking until after Thanksgiving. Probably first of December. Then it will be a weekly ranking from that point until end of regular season. Most likely will come out on Tuesday mornings each week. These are the teams that are eligible for these rankings: 17-6A (Channelview, Crosby, North Shore, Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Summer Creek, CE King) 18-5A (Northbrook, Spring Woods, Kingwood Park, New Caney, Porter, West Fork, Splendora) 19-5A (Goose Creek Memorial, Baytown Lee, Baytown Sterling, United, West Brook, Dayton, Nederland, PA Memorial, PN-G) 18-4A (Bridge City, Jasper, Lumberton, LC-M, Silsbee, Vidor, WO-S) 19-4A (Hamshire-Fannett, Hardin-Jefferson, Huffman, Liberty, Livingston, Shepherd) 20-3A (Anderson-Shiro, Tarkington, Coldspring, Crockett, New Waverly, Onalaska, Trinity) 21-3A (Diboll, Huntington, Pineywoods CA, Central Heights, Newton, Pollok Central, Woodville) 22-3A (Anahuac, Buna, East Chambers, Hardin, Kirbyville, Kountze, Orangefield, Warren) 23-2A (Chireno, Garrison, Joaquin, San Augustine, Shelbyville, Tenaha, Timpson, Woden) 24-2A (Colmesneil, Big Sandy, Deweyville, Evadale, Hemphill, Sabine Pass, West Hardin, West Sabine) 28-1A (Brookeland, Burkeville, Chester, Goodrich, High Island, Hull-Daisetta, Leggett, Spurger) Beaumont Kelly Beaumont Legacy Please post any thoughts here if you agree or disagree with how these rankings will be done. Again, I want to hear from you guys. Any and all help is welcome.

    Dallas Cowboys

The whole concept of playing for a FG hinges on having a great defense. Aubrey can be counted on, but it takes away from being aggressive on offense. The NFC East sucks so badly, the Cowboys are still in it. I don’t abandon my team, but the only HC I can remember who coached by being your friend was Bum Phillips. I’d really like a coach with some fire in their belly like Jon Gruden.

  16. I've been a Republican all my life. MAGA is not Republican; it is a cult. I can remember during the Reagan era when marital infidelity was an immediate, career-ending scandal that forced public figures to step away from public life. Has the political landscape changed? Was Cornyn a horrible person?

  17. I watched both games, the difference was night and day for some reason. Could be a focus/MCM hangover issue but that is partially on the coaches to get them dialed in for the next game. Watch the tape and move on to next week.

  22. Sounds to me like the coaches in 9-5AD1 aren't even together on the tiebreak system. If they put it to a vote, it will probably end up in a tie 4-4, with La Porte abstaining because they don't care. 🤣😂🤣

  26. Depends on how Silsbee D handles the run, and how well they can pass the ball on offense. Shepherd D is solid against the run, but we burned them all night through the air, conditions just slowed us down a lot. Silsbee struggled against Vidor earlier in the year, and this matchup should be similar, but the Tigers have improved tremendously throughout the season. I don't know that it'll be 45-16, but I expect a comfortable Tiger win.

  29. Lufkin is really young this year. 5 sophomores and 1 freshman see heavy snaps on defense and 5 sophomores play heavy snaps on offense too including the QB. Im not expecting Lufkin to win but I think they're capable of making it interesting. This team is going to be really good down the road.

  32. I didn't see that game, but I'll play along. Who in the district has put together a better argument for MVP? I know he averaged 300 rushing yards a game over a 3 game stretch. I doubt there's many that can compare to those numbers.

  33. Nederland should take it. I thought they would dominate Texas city, so no prediction here. Nederland wins by at least 1.

  34. It was pretty much expected that this game would be for the District championship. Both teams have nearly identical scores through the rest of the District games. Last year the Montgomery RB ran wild on the Huntsville defense. We will see if the Hornets can slow down that rushing attack. Huntsville also runs the ball well. Montgomery is better in the passing game. I’d lean with Montgomery, but the Hornets are playing good football. So, I wouldn’t be surprised either way. I’ll be there Thursday night.

  42. Fairly certain that everyone supports the kids. But at the same time can see when there is poor judgement and a very critical time to have a stupid (yes it was stupid) penalty. It was selfish but at the same time the kid needs to have the ball more. The parents, both, seem to be creating friction. Drawing attention to this thread, making posts on FB and taking all credit for the kid keeping the bulldogs in the game but not being able to admit that it was a mistake after that last TD. It’s ok to say it was a poor decision. Dogs have a decent wave of athletes and should do fine but man their parents are wild. Some of the same ones saying “don’t worry coach Barrow, we are in the way” a few years back. Them having a tree lighting ceremony for winning 8th grade district title. Let’s the kids play, teach them humility and team first. The coaches need to step up with culture, it hasn’t gotten better. And there is zero reason to have delay of game on a kick off, tacked on to the unsportsmanlike…also, tackle someone, PNG QB and TC RB looked like prime Barry Sanders

  43. Reading these comments is beyond frustrating. I’m #13’s dad and have spent a lot of time around these kids at team dinners and other functions outside of the games on Friday night. They have a very tight knit football family and all love and genuinely support each other. The coaches have built and sustained that culture which I believe is the only thing holding this team together after the last two losses. To be successful, its going to take us as parents to continue to support this team in every aspect. Hollering at the coaches and screaming who to play and when needs to stop. It’s not helping. I know your intentions are good and we all want the same thing, but it is only causing fractures and division. We are blessed to have a group of kids like this that support and love each other as much as they do. Let’s do our best to continue to encourage that.

  46. LC-M growls past BC, 28-7 By Tom Halliburton Eric Peevey knew the surveys about a blocked punt but acquiring such prosperity can often become difficult to accomplish. Once Little Cypress-Mauriceville's Austin Clophus stormed through Bridge City's line and rejected a punt late in Friday night's third quarter, the rest of the Battlin' Bears road to victory became much easier. The play provided the necessary impetus for LC-M to defeat the Cardinals, 28-7. LC-M's green jerseys rejoiced in their stadium's light rain by 10 o'clock because the Bears (7-2 and 4-1) moved within one game of seizing the No. 1 spot from District 9-4A in the 4A Division I state playoffs. Filled with emotion and unsportsmanlike penalties, this hard-fought verdict seemed as if it might go down to the final play. The teams were tied 7-7 until the last half-minute of the third quarter. That's when Redbirds' punter Drake Mills retreated to punt and senior defensive lineman Clophus did what he never realized that he did. Mills knocked the ball backwards and teammate Isaiah Watzlavik scooped it up and rambled the final few steps to the end zone for a momentum-changing touchdown. "I didn't even know I blocked it," Clophus said. "I didn't even know I did it. I came over the middle and jumped over the second dude and I guess I blocked it." LC-M took total command after that with two explosive plays by senior quarterback Jakson Struwe which produced a pair of insurance fourth-quarter touchdowns. Struwe floated a perfect 62-yard swing pass to Brody Perry for a 21-7 lead with 7:37 to play. The LC-M field general reversed his field and dashed 55 yards on the night's final score with 4:49 left. Peevey knew the importance of the blocked punt though. The veteran Bears coach had done his research. "There was a survey of NFL and college games where 86 percent of the time if a team blocked punt, it was likely to win," he said. "We try to block one every week." Easier said than done, but the Bears defense had accomplished more than just a blocked punt. Defensive coordinator John Davis saw his unit limit Bridge City (4-6 and 3-3) to 12 second-half rushing yards. Brycen Chargios, Fowler Mills, Ezequiel Leon and Watzlavik took control of BC's offensive line after halftime. LC-M limited BC's elusive running back Josh Luna to 39 yards on 19 carries. The speedy Luna's longest gain was only seven yards. "We made a few adjustments at halftime and tried to keep the middle of the field occupied," Peevey said. "We wanted to be able to keep Luna under 100 yards." Chargois claimed the adjustments prevented Luna from finding much running room after BC owned a 7-0 halftime lead. "We recognized what they were trying to do," Chargois said. "We started having our ends crash down on their pulling guards and that freed up our linebackers." Cardinals coach Josh Smalley also dwelled heavily on the blocked punt in his post-game remarks. "They blocked a punt on us for the second year in a row," BC's boss said. "Momentum is kind of a funny thing. Once you lose, sometimes it's hard to get it back." Smalley's quarterback Hudson Hoffman threw for 202 yards, including a 25-yard second-quarter scoring pass to Ayden Wiley. Struwe threw for only 155 yards but ran for 111 more. Now for the more costly stat. LC-M picked off two of BC's passed while BC picked off none. Struwe's 55-yard scoring run never meant to go to the right side of the formation. It started out to the left and the senior passer freelanced the rest with his vision and his legs. "They outnumbered us on the play side so I had to make something happen to the other side," Struwe said. "Our offensive line really stepped up in the second half." The night was not a total loss for Bridge City though. By virtue of Vidor's win over Livingston, the Cardinals still clinched a 4A Division I state playoff spot. BC has a bye next week. Meanwhile, the Bears can clinch at least a share of the district title if they can win at Lumberton. Tom Halliburton is a senior sports correspondent for the Beaumont Enterprise
