Most schools have open enrollment.. but that only means that they accept out of district transfers as STUDENTS. Those kids still have to sit a year to be eligible for UIL competition. Being accepted as a student doesn't change that.

You cannot "get recruits in every year". They have to sit out a year unless they go through the exact same process that every other district goes through. "Open enrollment" is irrelevant in the UIL process.

They aren’t. To be honest I may be a little upset if they did… if Astros get into post season play we will scrape by and get bounced out round 1. With the Dodgers making another move with Skuball everyone is playing for runner up. Dodgers killed baseball, and I am so ready for a salary cap.

There is no team that "cant practice". Worst case scenario is to start practice at 4:00-4:30.

This year feels like the team we had when Goode came and Baker was the starting back and Amante was a freshman. That team was unknown . So yeah imma say more of a reload than rebuild.

The select division concept intrigues me

Open enrollment schools play within their normal classification. Open enrollment does not impact UIL eligibility. Just because they enroll does not mean they are eligible for varsity sports. If they live outside the district boundaries they are likely to sit out a year.

Just because they have open enrollment does not mean a player can play the first year he arrives. Still has to follow UIL transfer guidelines the same as if it were closed enrollment.

That is the understanding of how it's supposed to work in an honest process. You're assuming everyone is honest, which in itself is naive. They are NOT honest. They are constantly using loopholes and skirting the rules. This isn't assumption, it's 100% happening. It's worse in Dallas than any other Region. I have known many coaches and players in that entire Region - they know it's happening and they know nothing will be done. You can continue to assume everyone is honest. I can tell you that I've seen it happen to schools that didn't deserve it, while other schools benefitted from it. One example is a smaller 5A-D2 school at the time had the horses to make a run but the QB decided to go to a larger school with more notoriety. That left the smaller school with a QB that didn't quite have the ability to take them where they probably would have gone. That transfer was not an honest one and neither are the majority.

If you want to play by the rules that teams like SOC and others do, I have no problem with it. You want your kid to compete with top talent, great. But that definitely needs to be addressed with a rule that the school must play in a larger classification congruent with schools that have near Unlimited talent with large enrollments. If you can get recruits in every single year, you are now no different than the largest classification in the State. That's how a 5A-D2 school has 20+ D1 recruits every single year..... suddenly. in Dallas ISD no less. And they are not the only one. Argyle does it. There are plenty more. It's not Rocket Surgery.

Good stuff… I honestly don’t know what to expect from my Brahmas this year… I like what I saw from our freshman and JV teams last season… but I think overall this will be a Varsity squad that will go through some growing pains in non district…especially having to face two pre season 4A top 10s and the 3A preseason #1. Coach Rowe did them no favors when making the non district schedule which appears will be a baptism by fire process 🤣

My financial gain is because of investments I made many many years ago with some royalties I have from some property I own up around Cushing, Tx. Exxon and a couple other oil companies were part of my investment plan along with a few other stocks. I have taken some hits over the years but in the long term it has been very profitable. Being invested in oil company stocks you have to take the good with the bad. I am quite proud of the work I have done in my investing.

I’m aware of: Bridge City ISD, Lumberton ISD, Goose Creek ISD, La Porte ISD, Deer Park ISD. I’m sure there are more. You’d have to search by ISD for those you’re curious about. Some may surprise you as they are smaller districts. It’s not always the big ISD’s. It’s the money issue. Many adopted open enrollment of some fashion after school vouchers passed, and enrollment began dropping for multiple reasons (private schools, immigration policies, home schooling, etc.)

With Hardin out of the way, I believe EC will finish 2nd behind the Orangemen. How many transfers did EC get this year? Good for at least 1 or 2 since 1863.

Then move them as a freshman. Not a big deal and don’t blame you. The issue that folks have is when dudes have spent their entire hs career at a single school are going to play college ball and transfer out as a senior to a name school.

Recruiting is not conducive to an even playing field in UIL play. Especially for smaller schools. A team like SOC might not be necessarily "recruiting" but that's still not really an even playing field because they're not a true 5AD2 in my opinion. They have 5AD2 enrollment numbers but they have millions of kids they can chose from or attract while still keeping their enrollment numbers low. Theres probably not a perfect answer for those situations but the UIL should continue to work on keeping the playing field even as possible and not let the whole system get completely polluted with this madness.

Strake Jesuit does not have 3,000 kids. My son goes to school there. They have 1,400 - 1,500 young men in grades 9-12. I'm not just referencing SOC. The DFW suburb schools recruit or "steer kids" just like SOC. I have an in-law that coaches in the DFW; no, she's not a football coach; she's volleyball/golf. I'm not sure what the answers are for a level playing field. We are a mobile society. Families move for all kinds of reasons. Blended families have kids in different schools for different reasons (e.g., private, public, and possibly in different public school zones). It's a complicated issue. Some families seek out special education resources to help those children in need. Not everyone moves for athletic reasons. A lot do, but not all. I've always thought it was strange that Aledo has an OL with 6'6" 280 lbs. kids every year. Highland Park, too. SLC, SOC, Desoto, and the list goes on. It's not just SOC.

Should the UIL require open enrollment schools to play sports in the highest classification? The private schools who elect to play in the UIL are required to play in the highest classification. Houston's Strake Jesuit comes to mind. SJ's enrollment fluctuates between 1,200 and 1,400, but the SJ sports teams must play in 6A. Should the open enrollment schools be treated the same way? Both systems, private education and open enrollment public schools, can cherry pick athletes.

Well we have a trade. Arrighetti for Daulton Varsho. Interesting. Varsho is a rental, as he will be a free agent after this season. Make a run and Varsho produces...good trade. Flounder and Arrighetti becomes a quality pitcher for several seasons...bad trade.
