There's two things I would point to: 1) If your child is planning to play in the NCAA they better get used to practicing at 6AM regardless of the temperature. 2) You're going to get more out of your reps, especially the ones later in practice, if you're not getting beat down by the sun. There's a fine line between the benefits of practicing in the heat vs the detriment due to sapped energy levels and attention span.

Should the UIL require open enrollment schools to play sports in the highest classification? The private schools who elect to play in the UIL are required to play in the highest classification. Houston's Strake Jesuit comes to mind. SJ's enrollment fluctuates between 1,200 and 1,400, but the SJ sports teams must play in 6A. Should the open enrollment schools be treated the same way? Both systems, private education and open enrollment public schools, can cherry pick athletes.

No it doesn't, the only player making over $1M on Baylor's roster is DJ Lagway who was a 5* coming out of high school and started two years in the SEC. The only way you get those NIL numbers listed above are to be an elite high school recruit or a big time transfer that produced at your previous stop. A low rated 4* or a 3* is going to have to earn their money once they get to campus. Prior to Baylor signing Lagway this year they signed Walker White from the portal who was a top 5-8 QB in the nation before singing with Auburn out of high school, he's already out the door again on the way to Central Arkansas. I highly doubt he's collected $300k after three years on P4 rosters. Baylor has had three players drafted in the last four years which is basically when the NIL era kicked off, two have been linemen. If you're good enough to make "millions" in the trenches in college you're most likely getting drafted. Outside of a guy Baylor is willing to overpay for in the portal from time to time to get him to Waco nobody they're willing to pay that type of money to would actually stay there because better teams/playoff contenders would pay more.

Also, this win secures the Silver Boot for the Astros. That makes 10 consecutive years Houston has won the Silver Boot. A friend of mine asked, "Is this even a rivalry anymore?"

Poor Dezenzo, with a position player pitching for the Rangers and the bases loaded, they pinch hit him for Alvarez and he got booed. Of course the boos were for the substitution, not the player. That had to be tough.

Along with leading the West, the Astros now have the same record as Cleveland who presently hold the final wild card spot. Nice change of status in just a few weeks for the club.

I know this going to get pushed to the bottom but I’ll keep it up top!! Lots of social media pics of the team with players . Some changed numbers and some are new and being billed as big play makers etc.., I’m not expecting last year, but if anyone knows roster info or whose competing for starting qb and rb positions please post and do we have a kicker?? Some kids look big and some are small( that doesn’t mean anything if u witnessed our run game last year) I said last year, Jones had improved as a football player. I still don’t trust him throwing the ball as a qb, but kid was a physical blocking wr despite his frame!!

They had just as well be 6-A though. PNG with about 1,600 students and possibly larger than Strake Jesuit. PNG probably has about 800 male students though as opposed to a school with an enrollment of 1,500 that has 1,500 males. A 3,000 enrollment public school would probably have the same 1,500 male students.

Strake Jesuit has just shy of 3,000 kids so they would be 6A regardless but other states have already moved to this model or some type of hybrid. Louisiana moved to a "select" division similar to the Catholic League in California and Florida added an "open" division for their best teams regardless of class. You're probably referencing SOC and I agree, there's really no way they should be playing in 5A-D2 with PNG. SOC's actual attendance zone is very small but Molina, Kimball and Carter are all in the same neighborhood and supplement their roster before you even get to the actual "transfers". The South Dallas County coaching staffs also do a great job at identifying youth talent and "steering" them to programs so that PAPF's never even become an issue. It's going to be the same for Desoto dropping down to 5A-D1 this year

I think it also depends on your location. WBGT can be different in Orange Texas than in San Augustine Texas.

You're not giving a 3* high school QB $300k a year just for his signature at a lower tier P4 school. He would be very lucky to get $100k as a freshman from Baylor. That's why I pointed out that even a high school All-America transfer QB from the SEC is already headed out. I'm sure he would've gladly accepted $300k-$600k to wait in line behind Lagway versus transferring to a mid-major where he would be doing well to get $50k a year. These teams have GM's now and unless you're a school with extremely deep pockets you're not paying a kid $1M to sit on the bench and develop. Long before a coach with his job on the line like Aranda gives an unproven high school commodity $300K per year to be a depth player they would just go get another one of these experienced guys from the portal like they did with DJ. Just because they have open enrollment does not mean a player can play the first year he arrives. Still has to follow UIL transfer guidelines the same as if it were closed enrollment.

If you and your family haven't grown up/lived in a community your whole life, are you actually beholden to the name on the front of the jersey though? When I was young my family lived in Trinity Gardens in NE Houston in what is now North Forest's attendance zone. Imagine being a life long resident of that community in today's time and having North Shore, CE King and Summer Creek who are all open enrollment football powerhouses 10 mins away. If your kid was any good you'd basically be doing them a disservice by keeping them there simply for "loyalty" purposes. It 100% matters where you play today

What's even crazier is that if you're only paying your starters $11M you have little to no chance of even contending for a P4 conference championship in this environment. Indiana was the outlier because a bunch of their team transferred from James Madison with the coach and weren't sought-after NIL guys. I love that the players are getting paid now but it's also kind of disappointing that the influx of money has led to the strip-mining of high end talent from the lesser conferences. Never again will you be able to turn on a MAC game on a random Wednesday night in November and watch a Chad Pennington hook up with Randy Moss in the snow or stay up late watching Derek Carr hook up with Devante Adams at Fresno St. in a WAC game.

There are 1200 to 1500 D1QB’s actively committed in high school each year. Div. 1 usually carry 3to4 QB’s on their roster. Just because a kid gets an offer from Baylor does not mean he will be a millionaire like some people believe. Nothing is definite until he gets that offer in writing.
