  1. Thank you very much for the kind words and explaining what you have seen over the years! I will make sure he sees it and I know your post will inspire him even more tonight. I really appreciate you sir!

  2. Orangefield has never played that level of defense and I give almost of all of that credit to Whitmire. It wasn’t the easiest gig in the world but he’s gotten his system in place now and most of those kids have learned how to really play aggressive defense under his tutelage. I was watching online so I didn’t see the dead ball stuff. I guess it depends on the official and the nature of the conversations. Some players are great at chopping it up with them and some officials like it, some don’t want to be engaged at all. By and large, it kind of depends on the context. From what I’ve seen this year, the team has greatly improved with that stuff (granted they needed vast improvement from last season) and have seemed to have matured. But again, I didn’t notice any of that so I can’t really speak intelligently on what happened on Friday. I, like you, have been greatly impressed with his game. I’ve seen him since he was barely bigger than the ball shooting on goals between varsity games and knew he was a talent. But he seems to get better every time I see him. Obviously Fairfield was the more athletic team (apparently full of football kids which made sense after watching the game) but he was seemingly doing whatever he wanted with the ball. They couldn’t stay in front of him, disrupt him in the slightest with full court pressure, and he’s just so smooth with the ball. One play in particular really impressed me. After making 4 FTs in a row and the ball his hands up 2 with under 2 minutes to go, he had sliced through the backcourt pressure and was approaching mid court. I see him about to advance the ball off the dribble with his left hand to his teammate up the floor which is, in general, the correct basketball play (obviously). But in the situation (Fairfield had to foul), I’m thinking “no! Keep it!” But instinctually and unselfishly, he flipped the ball ahead and his teammate was fouled. That particular teammate is also a good FT shooter and made both to put the lead back to 4. But it showed me what I knew to be true about the Scales kid. As gifted as he is, he knows how to play the game and is unselfish (sometimes to a fault). But he’s one of those rare players who just makes all of his teammates better. When you are at a school like Orangefield, I don’t think you can make a run like this one without a kid like that. And I haven’t seen one close to him in the 30ish years I’ve been watching Bobcat basketball.

  3. I don't understand it as well. Good prep for next game at Alamodome. If I am a coach, as the playoffs progress, I am trying to get as large a facility as I can get that is reasonable for both sides.

  5. I often wonder who GA Moore would be had he coached in Warren for 44 years. Also, do you remember GA Moore for all his wins at Celina and Pilot Point, or the fact that he finished his career with two back to back losing seasons at Aubrey HS? I wonder, did he forget how to be great?

  10. Things have to get better down here or this forum will be shut down completely. Too many violations (some warned, some not) are happening at an alarming rate down here. More violations happen in this forum than all the other forums combined. It also has the most "past banned" members posting which that is about to stop if things don't get cleaned up down here. This is a warning that the owner supports. This forum is not needed that badly. Clean it up guys or this is history.

  18. Sadly, NFHS did not pick the game up as of last night. I haven't checked this morning. Texan Live was going to do the game if it would have been at Merrell Center (that's where Orangefield wanted). But decided not to do it since it is in Bay City (where London wanted). It was a battle to get London to agree to anything closer to Houston. Also, some sites were not willing to host because of spring break. In the end, Orangefield agreed to Bay City. That was as close to Houston as London was willing to go. I also think London wanted a smaller venue than Merrell Center. It doesn't make much sense though since their next game if they would win will be in the biggest venue in the playoffs. I guess he has his reasons.

  21. The U.S. probably has to make sure the Gulf States can still sell their oil to maintain their economies & thus, their willingness to assist with Iran. The Chinese will have to pay going rates instead of the black market rate. They (China) get their oil—at a price—and the Gulf States stay as happy as they can be with the situation. It buys time. Literally. It also gives Trump leverage if he still keeps his upcoming meeting with Xi. Just my best guess.

  23. True enough. I hope they find it. I trust our intelligence. Trump has agreed to escort Chinese tankers through the strait. 20% of the world’s crude passes through every day. I simply point out the inconvenience of paying a higher price for gas for a few weeks as compared to the results of ridding the world of a cancer.

  24. This forum is so active, I hope most enjoy it enough to straighten up to keep it open. If not, ban’em. I’ll drop in on a topic to see what’s new, only to find five new pages in the last eight hours. Sometimes, I can’t keep up, but you are right, there’s a lot of unneeded atitude.

  28. Phil Danaher is the winningest head coach in the history of Texas high school football coaches. 41 consecutive playoff appearances... since you brought up losing seasons. However, he never won the title. So.. is he elite? Some people (cough cough) would say no, because he never won the state championship. What are your thoughts?

  29. I actually went to the game.. (invited by an old friend). Orangefield's defense is much more aggressive in person than I saw each time I watched them play on NFHS. I'm impressed with how they get in your pocket.. so to speak. And. I really like 24's game. His ability to penetrate the paint at the end was one of the differences in the game. However.. could someone tell him that it's not necessary to have a conversation with an official literally every dead ball situation? I'm surprised OF didn't catch a tech because of that annoyance alone. There were a couple times I thought for sure they would've gotten one but didn't. Either way, congrats on the hard fought win. Definitely a positive that WW went small. That'll make it more attainable.. but Madison won't be a pushover by any stretch should you get this win over London. Best of luck, guys.

  32. Trump said that he thinks the war is pretty much over and the market is acting accordingly. I hope the Iranians feel like it’s over, too. The last thing we need is them sinking a tanker in the Strait.

  34. It should not be that hard to address the topic and not another member. It’s not like accidentally blurting something out in a conversation. It’s typing and you have time to go back and look at it. Not that my opinion matters but I am not a fan of calling people out with the @ symbol. If that person feels like responding he/she will. That person may not even want to read that thread. There is no need for @someone and @you and ask what do you think of YOUR guy now. Post your comment and if no one wants to answer, great. But, that’s just an opinion That is not the same as calling a mod/admin’s attention to something or asking another person an educational question like @bullets13 to ask about being a teacher and/or the rules they follow. It’s really not that hard.

  36. He played a couple more games and padded his stats against some of the weaker teams in district. Babin put up 2 or 300 yards on the regular and still had a higher completion percentage against teams that were expecting him to pass it while Foster caught teams slipping with payaction passes vs 10 in the box

  40. My personal opinion is the depth in 12-5A is better....if you take the top 4...they are probably pretty similar in fact 11-5A D1 may get a slight edge...but 12-5A's depth is the difference...Shoemaker, Connally and Hendrickson are going to be picked 5th, 6th, 7th...they would be multiple TD favorites IMO over 5,6,7 in 11-5A D1....Freeman may change that but we simply dont know right now what they'll be year one...but every week in 12-5A except for maybe one week you have to battle....there's at least 3 gimmie games in 11-5A D1 and maybe 4

  41. Yep, that was the difference in this game, HJ didn’t hit but one 3 and Wheatley hit to many to count. Luckily they couldn’t make free throws or it might have been a little more lop sided! HJ is young and will return 95% of their team. Look out because they will be very good for the next few years.
