Mustang alum following from DFW. This is incredible. I did not think it was possible. After losing that opening game to Nederland it seemed like here we go again - another season just like the last three. I'm amazed not just by the fact we've made it this far, but HOW we've done it - coaching improvements, halftime adjustments, focusing on the strengths of our personnel (using that big O-line/awesome tailback/I-formation, etc.), and better overall defensive play. If we can eliminate turnovers and lessen the penalties, they can beat any team in 4AD2 (save Carthage, but who knows). They were good enough to beat Sealy by two TDs last week if not for the turnovers. I'm so impressed with the heart of this team and how they continue to be better than their opponents in the second half. Keep it going, WO-S!

Wow, just wow... as bad a first half as you could have in a 4th round game... and takes home a 15 point win. Good job everyone. Adjustments made. I tell ya what, those kids got some fight in them. And they will play their hearts out for their coach. Much respect.

Wild to me that the Stangs just pulled a 15-point upset to make it to the semis and people are still griping about coaching. They’re playing out of their minds right now, and at least some of that is due to coaching.

You’re missing my point. If a Golden Triangle school could pull athletes from the entire Jefferson/Orange/Hardin County area while still maintaining a 5A D2 sized enrollment, they’d be competitive, if not beat SOC. The athletes would be comparable, but facilities, community support, coaching, etc would outdo what SOC can offer. But geographically it’s not possible here in SETX, but it is possible in Dallas because the attendance zone is smaller in geographic size. The situation isn’t wrong, but it’s not really fair, either. But using a magnet or charter system to form a super team, then being proud of the fact you beat teams who aren’t able to consolidate athletes from a 6 school attendance zone isn’t anything to be proud of. Example…. Our local youth football league (STJFL) takes on all players, then fields teams accordingly. Some cities like ours (population 8,000) would field two teams for each age range because that many kids signed up. Then you have one of our neighbors (population 50,000) put together a single team. They hold tryouts, cut kids, etc…. It’s a select team. If your select team drawn from a pool of 1300 kids is beating the 30 kids assigned to a team from a pool of 90 kids… it’s nothing to be proud of. But I think it’s a flaw that isn’t seen as a flaw in some communities. But y’all have recruited another fine team this year. Congratulations on your “win.”

You wouldn't be suprised if i told u how many still on that hill. My position has shifted. I'll take my crow cooked only on backroad blacktop and covered in tar. Honestly like @Gasilla said just imagine a complete game. We still have many of the same constant problems. But today's success from resurrecting some of the past proves they have the program by the reins. Hooks 6 yrs Thompson 5 yrs Hickman ? Let's go Mustangs!!!

So nobody gonna talk about the offensive lineman that kicked the SOC player while he was on the ground? I don’t wanna hear NOTHING about class and PNG in the same sentence unless it’s about graduation. DISGUSTING!!!

Congrats to WOS coaching staff. One of the best staffs in the Region at planning, adjusting, and properly utilizing their players.

What does that change? Who said anything had to be limited to transfers that occurred this season? The effect is the same.

It is wild , but not surprising, some people are incapable of being objective, even when they grudgingly give the current staff some credit, they still insist on somehow linking it to the past🤔 all the winning from the past was not due to alignments and plays called, it was players going out and executing the plays and outplaying their opponents, coupled with the coaching. 99% of the schools in this area would not have gotten the same results by merely running the same plays or being in the same alignments that WOS used in the past . The past was tremendous, but it’s the past, nobody is trying to or can erase it, but it’s a new era, under different leadership, and whatever success or failures they have is due to them, and only them !!!

That loss on our resume keeps looking better and better! Congrats

Great season! Maybe we will get out of this region next year. Still have play those good teams, but it would be nice to play some one other than SOC.

The Pirates fell apart. WOS definitely took it to them. The broadcasters were annoying as all get out. Where in the heck did they come from?

South Oak Cliff shares a 20 mile radius with Duncanville, Desoto, Waxahachie, Carter, Kimball, Roosevelt, Sunset, Adamson, Wilmer Hutchins, Lancaster and Red Oak: 6 playoff teams and 3 national contenders. So that whole "super team" thing sounds like tears. Sure, a program's success can serve as a recruitment tool, but anyone in the know will tell you SOC lends out more talent than they get. Duncanville's last 5 star lived in SOC's community. As well as a ton of Desoto's starters. SOC sent more players to the NFL than any other high school long before they sniffed a State Title appearance. The community has ALWAYS been overflowing with talent. SOC's problem has always been inadequate coaching and facilities. Now that they've caught up in those areas, folk are whining about the talent that has always been there. PNG does well to compete wuth the like of SOC, just like any community. Be humble and enjoy the experience

Yep. Ashworth brings a different element and we saw that last night in several runs. Bailey probably throws to the guy short of the end zone on the int versus into double coverage into the end-zone on the one INT, but we don’t get down there without Ashworths legs so kinda a catch 22. I for one am excited to see Ashworths dual threat after another off season of prep in passing game. That said Conner Bailey should never have to pay for beer at the Axe (once he turns 21 of course) 🤣

OC is more afraid of le Vega than the kids are!! He refuses to throw the ball. The kids missed a bunch of tackles and the penalties doesn't help.the kid off the edge keeps blocking the extra points bcz, the ball is getting back there too slow. If they don't adjust we're going home.we have to throw the ball on 1st down. I mean he want even try it !!

100% facts. Nothing against BH, but PAM has the athletes to beat anyone in 5A D1. The only way they lose is if they beat themselves.

Any team pulling from a population zone whose size matched the zone that SOC pulls from would be equally stout, if not more so. It’s the reason that Newton can’t compete with Allen. When you have 300 kids to pick from, you get a certain level of talent… if you’ve got 15,000 kids to pick from, you’re going to end up with a team that wears out teams who have 2200 kids to pick from. That’s not coaching, that’s not talent… they’re not breaking the rules, it’s just not something to be proud of.

Skyline and one from Grand Prairie just keep filling those “holes”

It’s comical to me when places recruit a super team then feel pride despite the fact that they couldn’t win with the talent they had on hand. Especially when you think what would happen if schools like PNG were willing to ignore the rules with all of the resources at their disposal. I’d rather lose with our kids that grew up here than win with some kids who stopped here for part of a season.
