I agree that larger enrollment gives an advantage, but WOS used to negate that advantage with discipline, conditioning, and coaching. Pick any year before 2022 and no one would ever think, “WOS is going to lose to PNG because they’re so much smaller.” WOS is less than half the size of PNG. Smaller than Nederland, Silsbee, Vidor, LCM, Lumberton, Bridge City, - probably everyone outside of the small rural schools. For decades, none of that has mattered. Now smaller enrollment IS a factor. Five local teams have or have had two-game win streaks against WOS since 2021: PNG: 2 (2022, 2023, haven’t played since) Nederland: 2 and counting (2024-present) HF: 3 and counting (2022-present) Silsbee: 2 (2022-2023) Jasper: 2 (2022-2023) I’m confident there’s never been another era of WOS history where FIVE local teams enjoyed multiple wins in a row against WOS within the same 3-4 season period.

I highly doubt that… varsity has the weapons. There is some out of position, and not being utilized. Nederland is to small in numbers for kids to specialize on one side of the ball. Time to mix some kids up on both sides of the ball… we are seeing what faircloth did at PNG years ago and kids specialize on one side of the ball. Will never work in Nederland or PNG. Play the best 11… Neumann did it And his success speaks volumes

It speaks to the quality of coach Neumann was. When Joseph started playing guys both ways, it was immediately clear what a difference it made. Seemed almost too obvious. We should have been doing it all these years. Few, if any, high school teams have the depth to have exclusive specialists. It’s arrogance to assume you’re so good you only need to use your best tools some of the time.

I will make this one comment on the “both sides are guilty” argument. Big girl says that we celebrated Trayvon Martin and George Floyd’s deaths. That’s the biggest racist lie in the world, but if she repeats it and spreads it around enough, people will believe it. The Minnesota senator was also mentioned. Yes, she was killed by a so-called right leaning Christian. Am I proud? No. Did I celebrate? No. Charlie Kirk’s killer was raised in a conservative family, but no matter how much we try and raise our kids the right way, they can be indoctrinated. So “both sides” can have some kooks. This will be the point I am trying to make. When the Minnesota Senator and husband were killed, how many people in congress and Fox News made snide remarks about their murders…..NONE. How many people in congress and MSM, and even teachers have made snide remarks about Charlie Kirk’s murder? How many people have rejoiced in Kirk’s murder on social media. It’s really sickening the numbers. True, both sides have their black sheep, but for me, the left is more easily triggered (wrong pronouns) and are simply very callous in their feelings for those of us on the right. Let a man wear a MAGA hat while walking down a street in a liberal town.
