I think you are right. I think the young man would absolutely excel and have a higher profile at 3A Anahuac, but in 5A he will be asked to carry Ned to some degree, and its doubtful Ned makes deep runs with or without him. There is a significant speed and talent difference between 3A and 5A ball. With all the hype and speculation that's gone on since last year this was already baked in. Sometimes the best move is one you DON'T make, so I hope he doesn't look back in a few years and wonder what "might have been" had he stayed.2 points -
I’m a huge fan of Whitmire’s. No idea if he would want to move back to SETX. Would be fine with the other two as well.2 points

BH dropped the 1st game against Angleton 2-1, then blasted them in game 2 and 3. 2nd round series against Fulshear starts tonight on the road. BH has a really good Sophomore pitcher and a few Seniors leading the team. Not a lot of depth though, in my opinion. The hitting can be good but its a bit inconsistent.1 point -

I say play as many sports as possible at the high school and under level. Can't get those memories back. I don't think "football only guys" quit other sports right at their senior seasons. It's done years before. I don't need to post my name. Everyone knows me. lol1 point -
I hear you, and what you are saying is true, but there was also a significant speed and talent difference between Hardin 8th grade football and 3A varsity football, and he navigated that pretty well. Let's just wait and see before we start to bury the kid on this board. I like the conversations also, but I can't help but think about the potential of the kid in question reading these posts and how that might affect him. We all love this sport and are passionate about our teams, but we are also all passionate about supporting all kids from SETX to succeed on every night except the one when they oppose our city! lol. Good luck Coach and Son. We're all rooting for your success.1 point

This travesty of justice is just setting up an excuse to indict Trump during campaign season to detain him. The sentencing of the Proud Boys based on sound evidence was a freaking joke! The country will be ripped apart if that happens. The justice system has been weaponized against conservatives an CB is too blind and stupid to see it. You can’t vote your way out of a rigged system. This country is in trouble.1 point

As someone that is actually aware of the facts I can tell that statement is 100% false. Couple of facts before I get on my rant. 11.7 athletic scholarships in D1 baseball w rosters of 27 players or more. 24 athletic scholarships in Junior College baseball. Depending on the Junior College you might see rosters as high as 45 to 60 players in the fall before they cut half to play in spring season. Facts... Driskell after summer had zero offers. After playing well in fall he had multiple offers. Ultimately he chose to take a full scholarship to Panola. Noah Kendrick was committed to Alvin Community College at the end of summer. After playing well in Jupiter Florida in the fall he received interest from some D1s and ultimately chose to take a scholarship to pitch for Sam Houston. Which is a program he had always had high interest in but there was never an offer until they saw him at there camp in October. Although you might see a number of commitments come after a senior's school season very few actually have scholarship dollars associated with them as the money is gone. That is before you take into consideration the transfer portal. I know multiple kids that had scholarship amounts change or even pulled due to transfer portal, injury, coaches been fired, or a number of other reasons. Ultimately those boys made a tough decision which was theirs to make. They dedicated themselves to a dream and goals. Did they hit all their goals no but it wasn't from a lack of effort or talent on their part. They are still working toward there goals. The funny thing is I read a lot of these blogs and I do not ever hear a pep when a kid decides to stop playing baseball or basketball to focus on football. This kind of stuff just blows my mind. How about you tip your hat to couple kids that left on the field for Nederland instead of taking pop shots at them. I promise this community and culture around our sports would be better for it. If Navy Dog or anyone else peeking on a keyboard would like to speak further about this matter please fell free to contact me anytime. Be happy to meet you in person and have chat. Just let me know I'm not hard to find. Jamie Kendrick1 point

Barrier is leaving Anahuac. I believe he should have stayed 1 more year, matured a little more and worked on his scrambling and footwork, then moved on to a 5A or 6A team and shoot for a D1 college. If he goes there and gets beat up and doesn't make the playoffs, I'm afraid it will set him back. At Anahuac, he would be in the playoffs and possibly make a deep run and teams will come calling for his services. Just my .02.1 point

Another suspect arrested in connection to recent Jasper shooting
thetragichippy reacted to tvc184 for a topic
Under your scenario… You are indicted for OC-Agg Assault and facing 99 years. They have you stealing a handgun and selling the gun to a 17 year old. That is two state jail felonies with a maximum of two years on each count. Through your attorney they offer to accept guilty pleas in the crimes you actually committed but no deferred adjudication probation and you will testify in court that you sold the gun to one of the suspects and he told you what he was going to do. Or… they will not drop the Aggravated Assault charge but will allow you to plea guilty with a guaranteed sentence of 5 years (minimum for 1st degree felony) and the same testimony deal. Or… the same deal but a 10 year sentence and parole eligible at 5 years. To not take an agreed upon plea, you risk life in prison or up to 99 years, both of which can receive parole in 30 years. The worst plea deal I made up would probably have you home in five years…. You could risk 30 for parole. If it looked like a solid case against you, would you accept any of those deals? But we don’t even know what they really have on anybody. It is interesting to think of what may happen. Some of these later arrests might even have nothing to do with the shooting and just incidental crimes they ran into. Like while investigating where somebody might have gotten a gun, they inadvertently ran across a guy with a stolen credit card, which is a minor felony. And I highly doubt that they would offer immunity but anything is certainly possible.1 point -
Another suspect arrested in connection to recent Jasper shooting
thetragichippy reacted to tvc184 for a topic
Obviously I have no clue at all about this serious incident…. Let’s go out on a limb and say some of the people arrested are low level players like in my Organized Crime examples. Like maybe they were not the actual shooters or the getaway driver but have been involved in other more minor crimes with a group. Maybe they made a phone call to let people know that the party was underway. Whatever….. Because of the organized crime law however, the people that may not have actually took part in the shooting itself might be facing up to 99 years in prison. Do anyone think that through a lawyer, they might give up the right to remain silent and cooperate in prosecution in lieu of reduced charges?1 point -

This isn’t college. They aren’t recruiting replacements. They aren’t searching a non-existent Texas High School Transfer Portal for new playmakers. Barrier could get hired on his credentials without bringing his son. Is his son a bonus? Yes, but he isn’t the reason his father is or isn’t a candidate. As for confidence I will say this, the Anahuac kids had no problem with a freshman coming in and taking the starting role…1 point

Go to a firearms counter at a big box sporting goods store and listen. 🤣 I have heard things that are completely wrong. I am not talking like an opinion like brand A is better than B. I am talking about wrong. Even a young person at a specialty counter was expected to have some basic knowledge of the product. Not so much any more. I think I have told this story before, but a few years ago I was at Subway sandwich with my partner at work. He ordered a 6 inch sandwich and I ordered a 12 inch sandwich. The conversation went like this: I would like a 12 inch on white bread. We don’t have that. OK give me a 12 inch wheat. We don’t have that. OK, what do you have? We have white, wheat, jalapeño cheese… OK, give me the 12 inch white. We don’t have that. Sir, all we have is 6 inch and foot long sandwiches. We don’t have 12 inch bread. My mistake, give me the foot-long white.1 point -

If a kid can't show up for a game then in my opinion they shouldn't have been on the team to begin with.1 point -
Most coaches like sleep Thursday night/Friday morning combined with not having to deal with the classroom on game day. Kids will show for the game. Would be different showing for practice. I know many coaches who are doing the 4-day week at various districts. Not a single one of them has said they had a problem getting kids to show up on game day.1 point

Events on Fridays will occur with: 1. less stress on coaches 2. coaches that had sleep the night before. 3. coaches who can focus on football and not lessons or drama in the classroom1 point
