    HJ vs La Vega

they have a very good team. only losses on the year are to 5a #12 Royce City by 9, 4A #5 Midlothian Heritage by 5, 6A Private Bishop Lynch by 13, and 6A San Angelo Central by 13. They have several solid wins this year, including that impressive 50-point win they just put up against a 34-4 Palestine. All that said, HJ has several wins over teams as good or better than the teams that have beaten La Vega. There aren't any common opponents this season, but playing connect the dots, HJ beat ranked 5A Red Oak by 13, Red Oak just beat Royse City by 8, and Royse City beat La Vega by 9. So HJ should win by 30 (just kidding). All things said, I'll take HJ by 15, but this is the first opponent they've played in almost two months that will be good enough to win if the hawks play badly, or if they get a few key players in foul trouble. HJ only beat La Vega by 7 last year, and this year's La Vega team is better, although the Hawks are a lot better than last year as well, IMO.

  2. TC is shell-shocked. Dude said they rather drink hotdog water than play United. Lawd.

  4. Carthage has always had athletes. Carthage also played in the old 4A (5A now) for a long time. They moved down to a level that better suited their enrollment, got a great coach, and then won a title. 95% of the schools in Texas do not play with the athletes at their respective level that Cathage does. Very few schools have the facilities and resources Carthage does as well. Kudos to Surratt and staff though. It wasn’t always the case. He deserves everything he has got. But let’s not naively and ignorantly say that he could go to any school in the state and win a title in a 7 year period. It’s simply not true.

  6. the announcer on NFHS/TexanLive calling the BU/Texas City game last night said he'd be doing the HJ game Friday, but it's not posted on the NFHS lineup yet.

  7. You can always tell when you’ve got a liberal backed in a corner in a discussion, they start personal name calling. It’s the last refuge of someone who’s taken a position they’re unable to defend. Another “notch” on my iPad, lol. Thanks UT alum, you made my day.

  8. New Waverly is good but Kountze can win this game. NW is not very deep. They have good length so rebounding will be an issue for Kountze. They have a couple of good shooters and prefer to play more of a half court game. If Kountze can apply pressure in the front court and get some turnovers and knock down some three's (NW will probably play zone), the Lions have a real good chance of winning this game.

  12. In our most liberal city, SF, in a recall election for School Board, the Woke candidates were voted out by 70%. As former NYC Mayor Bloomberg says in the article, that’s about a 7-8 on the Richter scale for Democrats. [Hidden Content]

I can’t get enough of him. Maybe it’s because I’m an “old head” as well, but I also love that he does his act without cursing every other word. There is still something to be said, in my book, for being a comedian who could do his act in church.

  22. I don’t think we can ignore the conditioning and development program a coach puts in place. That is, would Carthage have the same level of prospects without the coach helping get them there?

  23. I've seen NW and all the teams in their district. No team in their district really applies full court pressure on a regular basis like Kountze does so they will have to make some adjustments. Nobody said their guard play wasn't good enough but in all my years of watching high school basketball, I have seen many a ranked team succumb to pressure. BTW, rankings can be very subjective.

  25. What should have been a blow out was kept close by GCM repeatedly taking long range 3's (and missing) and refusing to take advantage of their size advantage. BH was scrappy and hit a ton of clutch shots. Kudos GCM almost went full Baytown, but thankfully they only went 3/4 Baytown. It was a great atmosphere though.

  28. I’ve said it before, but it really is scary how the overwhelming majority just acquiesced their freedoms to government control. Wear a mask - sure! Stay home - sure! Take a shot that doesn’t provide protection - sure! Require papers to sit down at a restaurant or travel in our free country - “Well gee the govt said it was best” - sure! Shut down small businesses and take away families livelihood - sure! But I’m the crazy one…..ummmm, okay.

  32. I didnt see any disrespect. The atmosphere was amazing, it was standing room only and electric the entire game. I have never seen the field house like that and I hope it is a sign of things to come with BH joining the Baytown schools in District next year. Both communities showed up and with the band, cheerleaders and students....It was a awesome environment. What I did see was BH battle back from a 15-0 and 17-1 deficit to get with in 1 going into the 4th quarter. BH could not make a shot early and missed a ton of free throws. BH had no business being in the game with the size advantage GCM had but credit to those kids. They played their butts off and could have easily won that game had the ball fell the right way. Two bizarre plays. One on a layup that would have tied the game, I dont know if GCM goal tended the ball but somehow the ball literally stopped and say on the rim for 3 seconds before it fell out. Huge bucket that didnt go down. Last, down 3, BH gets fouled shooting a 3 with less than 3 seconds to play. Kid missed the first, makes the second, shoots the ball off the front of the rim and goes flying in to get the rebound. One ref I think called he left too early and one I think called a foul on GCM. After talking about it the refs did a do over! I have never seen that before in my life. The kid made that free throw to make the score 50-51. BH quickly fouled and GCM made one of 2. BH got the ball to just over mid court for a last second 3 but it was long. It was a heck of a game.

  47. Silsbee has beaten HISD schools many times. They beat Sheldon ISD (channel view, summerset, CE King, BT Washington?) Cy Fair ISD teams, Brazosporrt teams. Still no respect. A lot of BT Washington players transferred from CE King, and Humble. That's why they put homeboy on talking about his family are alumni. Slick.
