  1. 1) its about keeping your word, if someone asks you to do something and you agree...be a man of your word...a great man once said "A man's gotta have a code" 2) We are dealing with HS kids, my code is allow the adult who works with these kids to tell the kids himself the news...the kids deserve to hear it from the adults who made the decision. 3) It's about building relationships, in this case I could have easily broken the news last week, but I'd burn a Coach...and coaches talk..."Can't trust Stepp, he doesnt keep his word" then I won't break anything....take the L here to break ten more stories later..chess not checkers

  2. For me personally, because I was asked to keep quiet by the two parties involved. It's about keeping good relationships. I learned of the hire last week. Was asked to not release the news until Coach Foreman could inform his players. I don't think that's too much to ask. I have always tried to do what the coach has asked in those type situations. Can't speak for other media entities. If you notice, KJAS has no direct quotes from either party. Meaning they hadn't spoken with Coach Foreman or Jasper supt.

It's all good, I didn't mean to come across mad about it that's my fault. Dropping will help all sports. It's a great place to work and I love the kids here, I honestly feel like the arrow is pointing up for all sports, and we will have a turnaround in some of the sports that struggled. I know nothing about the process of the AD hiring, but looking forward to whoever we bring in and hoping for a positive impact on all sports.

0-10 Football team, 1-24 Girls Basketball, 5-15 Baseball, 7-15 Softball… Maybe not “great” compared to previous basketball seasons but in the vacuum of 25-26, yeah they had a great season.

  6. Wasn't great, at all going 19-14 and 5-7 in district. Made the playoffs six years in a row before this, won a playoff game in four of those six years before this so it's been a while since we were on the "struggle bus" We are far from an elite program in basketball and have a long way to go, no question about that. But, been a long time since we boarded the "struggle bus"

  10. I take no joy in anyone’s death, nor do I ever wish for anyone’s death. If you’re right, and a majority of people are Christians, is it any wonder church attendance is falling in this country? Jesus teaches forgiveness and compassion, two things I can’t find in one plank of the Republican platform. You think we’re not going to pay for electing a blasphemer to lead us? Read your Bible.

  18. I've advocated to facilities upgrades for forever on this site (since I created an account). I used to catch a lot of ridicule from the old school mentality of, "it was good enough for my grandparents.. it's good enough now".. when in reality, if you're not providing top notch facilities, then your kids will go somewhere that has them. It's recruiting without recruiting. Plus, knowing that these tax rate increases are so small in the grand scheme of things.. it's beyond my level of comprehension why communities wouldn't want a school they're proud to show off. There's an enormous sense of pride associated with knowing that other schools are potentially jealous of what you have when they come to visit. Just pass the bond. Upgraded facilities will have a positive impact on your students' experiences for long after you've died.

Baseball on this site has little to no activity as stated. It could be partly due to the state of baseball below the collegiate level is infurating with parent's views of the ability of their children which is quite distorted. However, if you follow viewership trends for MLB, it is up quite a bit over the past decade and youth participation has recently rebounded quite a bit. The NBA has taken a massive hit in viewership though. The NFL is well the NFL and college football remains strong. I don’t state the above as a stitch head (I am one). Each summer i teach a sports sociology class and we discuss viewership and attendance patterns as part of a sports sociology class. The numbers actually surprised me as I don't care for pumpkin bouncing but was very surprised by the decline. BULLETS, I refuse to discuss kickball as I am an 'Merican! Take your communism elsewhere. I recently learned who bullets13 is folks, I am just giving him a hard time. A quick internet search reveals the number quite easily.

quite frankly, the effort and time put in is lost on all but a handful of members. I made a pretty serious effort in the soccer forum several years back due to my soccer background, and the threads would get 1 or 2 responses from the same small handful of members. At some point the reward isn't worth the effort. I would love to see more posters take the initiative and post game threads and results for their schools.

To answer the question as far as this website goes as to why the baseball coverage isn't as much as football and basketball, there are two specific reasons, One, our beloved admin Todd Broussard (WOSGrad) is no longer with us. Todd was the man that took care of pretty much everything here at SETXsports. He was the one who posted schedules, game threads, scores and standings for our coverage area teams in all our sports. It was a big loss for us when he passed away in August of 2021. Since then, we have never been able to completely fill his shoes. He was such a special person and we miss him dearly. Second, in the summer of 2022, I decided to retire (in hindsight, semi-retire) from the site. I had told my wife that when she retired as a school teacher, that I would retire with her so that we could spend more time at the beach together. I would no longer do any broadcasting and would take a step back from my admin duties. I told the owner (Jordan Wilson) that he would need to get some other mods to handle those duties. Jordan asked me to stay on for a little while until he could get others to take over. So I did. We had Bigdog and WOSdrummer99 take over the football forum as far as schedules, pickems, scores and standings. They have been a big help in that forum. Jordan went with a bot system to create game threads and the scoreboard thread. I helped when needed. Football forum is in good hands. As for basketball, several of the area basketball coaches were concerned that the basketball forum would die off without me tending to it. So they asked me to stay on and take care of that forum. I talked to Jordan about it and we agreed that I would handle that forum on my own with the understanding that after basketball season was over, I would not handle anything else until football season. I put a lot of love and effort in that forum and many folks have expressed their appreciation. But, those days are numbered as well. I honestly don't know how much longer I'll continue to take care of that forum. One, maybe two more years. We will see. As for the baseball forum, KF89 has done the best that he can with posting schedules and scores. I know how tough it is to try and do it all by oneself. It's really beneficial to have others invested in posting info in the forum. I was hoping other mods or members would help in that regard. A lot of truth has been stated in regards to the popularity of the three sports, particularly on this website. Football is definitely king and always will be. Basketball has always had more traffic on the site than baseball. I admit that part of that is how we (I) cover basketball much more than baseball. But even so, the basketball forum has 100,000 more posts in that forum than the baseball forum. It is what it is. KF89 is doing what he can but until we get others to commit to help out, the baseball forum will lack. Don't ask me, I am about to start my 4 1/2 month vacation from here. lol

  29. Just keeping this up close to the top because oral arguments are this Wednesday. Thought we could continue using this thread. I still think this is going to be one of the most fascinating oral arguments in a long time, and it will have possibly the greatest impact on America as any case in the last 100 years or more. It will be interesting to see how things fall out in questioning. I see the 3 liberal Justices just going with the status quo. I see 4 Justices going more with the originalism/textualism viewpoint. I see 2 Justices being open to the original intent of the 14th, but wanting to make sure their ruling only applies going forward, and how best to address it if they rule for original intent. The arguments for original intent are stronger than many think. Getting over the hurdle of history is still a tall task. But, this SCOTUS has shown a willingness to break with bad precedents in previous rulings. So, we'll see.

    And So It Begins

A few weeks ago I read an article that stated the Ds had turned 28 seats (state) from red to blue since Trump was elected, while the Rs had turned exactly zero seats from blue to red. With a 34 percent approval rating for Trump this week, it looks like a historic blowout could happen in November- but it’s a long way until then. The party formerly known as Republican has to figure out a way to motivate what’s called the low-propensity voters who only show up to vote when Trump is on the ballot.

  44. I don't know if you could consider the facilities great. Baseball and softball? Yes. Football? Good but not necessarily great. Certainly no indoor practice facility. The weight room isn't state of the art and there are way better gyms in our area. I would consider the facilities as a whole as good to very good. Not great. Shoemaker had better facilities. Best thing going for Coach Foreman is he will be in 4A D2 and not 6A. Also, back home (SETX) where he has always wanted to be. I really believe he will do quite well at Jasper. Much better than Crumedy.

  46. [email protected] Tom Halliburton’s Track Volume 38, Number 6 As you can see, there’s not much room to write when West Brook’s John Fowler and Memorial’s Jalexis Neal take up all of the space but these athletes earned it. That’s OK. Folks don’t read as much anymore anyway. Fowler and Neal earned photos. Each of these athletes delivered area-best times in two individual events last Friday at the C.E. King Panther Relays. A junior with the Bruins, Fowler won the 1,600 meters and took second in the 800. A sophomore with the Lady Titans, Neal won the 100 meters and took second in the 200. Two other athletes established new individual area-best numbers. Port Arthur’s Brandon Richards was third in the 100 meters in his event with a 10.84.
