  1. So you actually think coaches would back out of applying because of one player who would have only been there two more years transferred out? If that is the case, Silsbee does not need any of those coaches.

  2. I don't like to get involved in any hiring process or campaign for anyone. But if it was up to me, I would promote Ira Brooks to the head coach position and make his son Jacob 1st assistant and be HC in waiting for a few more years till Ira retires. I do realize that neither are certified but I personally would make this exception and would be able to give time for Jacob to get certified. I believe Ira has earned it.

  5. I get that United is a great program, but what would make playing basketball for BU more advantageous than playing for Silsbee? A player of Jones' caliber will merit the looks from colleges regardless of where he plays ball.

  6. I wouldn't overreact to this. Silsbee may have 4 or 5 kids that'll go straight to varsity in 27. Assuming they all stick together. They just need to nail it with this new coaching hire and all will be set. Next year might be rough though.

I was on the third row of section 232 in the stadium rooting for WV. I was also very optimistic to see what could be done with WV considering the amount of returning talent on both sides of the ball for WV. Never dreamed they'd run off the coach who finally got some "respeck" on WV's name and replace him with a guy who will have to try and replicate that success with little to no offseason. Good Luck!

One of my favorite things each year is the fan bases who hoot and holler to run their current coach off, then when the coach leaves, they end up with someone they are disappointed with. Gonna be a blood bath in WV when they lose in the second round this year with several returning starters on both sides of the ball from last years state finalist team. Also, the coach in Gunter is gone, so this may be the year for WV.......or could've been the year if they had valued continuity over chaos.

    **COACHING CAROUSEL**

New HFC for Baytown Sterling is former REL DC Spencer Anthony. So now GCM’s HFC is a former REL OC and RSS’ HFC is a former REL DC. You think eventually GCCISD would just consolidate the programs since the coaching staffs are all-REL anyway.

  13. Some fans won't because they are fanatics and don't have logic and reason. It's been a very long time since Silsbee has been down (meaning struggling to make playoffs). Been a historical run for Silsbee these last 20+ years. Next year and year after will be the time to get your licks in on Silsbee. But Silsbee has too much talent in their gyms to be down long. I like you using the word "realistic" because this run has been unrealistic to many many teams. A fan base can definitely get spoiled from these kind of runs. I really think this hire is the key to continue Silsbee's rarified success.

  19. Silsbee been stealing talent from Beaumont for years! It’s our turn now lol This move could possibly make BU one of the favorites to win state! However the best coach in SETX is still coaching in the Westend

  24. I'm of the opinion that America has always been great, but no period of time has ever been without its warts and major problems. But as a country the left had us heading downhill quick. I'm not nearly as conservative as a lot of folks on here. I'm a libertarian who votes right because I'll never have a viable candidate. That said, the woke left was out of control. Some things that were very necessary (equal rights, gay rights, etc.) came about years or decades ago, and things improved (as they should have), but then just kept going to the point of absurdity. When "protected" classes went from receiving the rights they deserved to being able to step on other's rights to do whatever they want is when problems started. It's been really nice to see the pushback from people with common sense. There should be no debate that biological men not be allowed to compete in and dominate women's sports. People claim to care about women's rights and then push for trans to be allowed to beat them. That's insanity! When gay pride parades involve men walking around with their genitals out in front of children, who's rights are more important? And there are dozens of more examples. I don't love Trump, in fact I can't stand him. I would've taken literally any decent republican over him. That said, I'm perfectly content with him doing whatever it takes to shore up the border and take as many illegals off the government teat as possible. What Biden (or his handlers) did was treason, and it helped put Trump back in office. And I'm not anti-immigration. At last count I've written letters of recommendation for citizenship for SEVEN different immigrants from Mexico who went through legal channels to get here. I'm not sure how the tariff thing is going to turn out, but if it turns out okay then the left (and their biased news sources) are screwed for the next election and for some time to come. The recent presidential and house/senate results are a rebuke of what the left has become, but the left hasn't learned their lesson and are doing the same thing. Their only chance is that Trump's economy fails, and the media is doing all they can to help stoke that fire.

  33. Well sounds like Day was about as good of a realistic candidate as you were gonna get so no reason to get upset. That is unless there were other candidates that did apply that were willing to take that job that the community would've preferred. However it seems like a safe pick. A coach that was willing to come there knowing the difficulties and with HC experience. Although not the success you'd have like to have seen but he seems to have performed above the average at the schools he's coached at.

  34. No question Hillin could be the guy and be successful. He is a good coach. But I think Clark could be just as good or better. Could also not be good at all. Problem is we don’t know because he hasn’t been a head coach yet. I think he deserves a chance. Yes, because he’s been loyal, but also because he’s a knowledgeable guy and a pretty good coach
    2 points
  35. Hillin and Clark are both great dudes. I would personally take the coach who has led his team to the playoffs multiple times as a HC over the guy who is a great assistant. just my personal opinion

  45. NBC News: Trump Admits Mistake: Donald Trump appears to have walked back his claim that he saw a video of cash being transferred to Iran. Newsweek: "He valued the apartment at $327 million in 2015 and 2016 financial statements based on claims it was 30,000 square feet in size. However, the triplex was 10,996 square feet. The only thing they have, Trump concedes, is the triplex, which was a mistake." NBC News: "On June 23, 2019, Trump discussed the border, why he stopped a planned military strike on Iran and what he called his “biggest mistake” as president: appointing Jeff Sessions as attorney general." Joe Rogan Podcast: "I will say it always comes back to the same answer, the biggest mistake I made...I picked some people that I shouldn't have picked." Try again partner. I can look up more if you'd like... Took about 2 minutes to look these up.

Please sir, name me a true leader that does that. On the federal level. I agree with your premise, but that doesn't happen on either side of the aisle. Hence my disdain for most politicians. And if you're gonna bitch about it when "our" guy does it, you got a bitch about it when "your" guy does it too... Didn't hear much of this talk from '21 to '24.

  48. Nothing wrong with immigration. But—as was famously said—you can’t have open borders and a welfare state. Milton Friedman Cato Institute is libertarian. Their slogan is basically ‘build a wall around the welfare state, not around the nation.’ I think most people with a lick of common sense understand the two can’t co-exist without restrictions. So—as a liberal—you either have to give up your big government spending, or open immigration. You choose. @UT alum

  49. Stop acting like you’re the only one who knows anything. What I said rings true. They could never envision Biden’s invasion of 20 million migrants. They didn’t have drug smugglers, paid human traffickers, and violent criminals coming across the borders (which were much smaller then). Times were totally different then. Even though they had open borders and encouraged immigration, they were concerned about the non-contributing immigrants being worthy of becoming Americans. The immigrants back then weren’t blood suckers looking for a handout and toting flags of the country from which they seek asylum. You’re the one who needs to read and use common sense. Here’s an excerpt of Washington’s and Madison’s opinions: RELATED: The Trouble with the ‘Nation of Immigrants’ Argument No, not because “diversity” is our greatest value. No, not because Big Business needed cheap labor. And no, Madison asserted, “Not merely to swell the catalogue of people. No, sir, it is to increase the wealth and strength of the community; and those who acquire the rights of citizenship, without adding to the strength or wealth of the community are not the people we are in want of.” Madison argued plainly that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily “incorporate himself into our society.” George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, similarly emphasized that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that, “by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people.” #share#Alexander Hamilton, relevant as ever today, wrote in 1802: “The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education, and family.”
